modern monsters - an akusai one shot

Title: Modern Monsters Fandom: Kingdom Hearts Pairing: AkuSai (Axel x Saix) Rating: General (Angst - Feels) Word Count: ~1,790 Prompt: Forehead/Scar Kisses

Summary: Saix comes to Axel’s room after a confrontation with Xemnas. 

A/N: Here is my final offering for this month’s @akusaimonth event. There’s a fandom theory in this that I’ve personally never explored, but I love the idea so decided to give it a go. Please enjoy!

Axel sat on the window sill in his bedroom, staring down at the phantom city of the World That Never Was, the skyscrapers high, but not as high as the castle he was currently in. He could see heartless moving about down below, but there wasn’t any other form of life on this world, besides the Nobodies - both former humans, and the ones that were like the Heartless. He was still getting used to this new body of his, as he’d only just become a Nobody fairly recently, and had woken up in a very sterile room, wondering what had happened. 

With one knee drawn up to his chest, the other dangled down towards the floor, the black cloak that the members of Organization XIII wore now riding up his thighs as he hugged his knee. The cloak was the most important thing, he had been told. It would protect him from becoming corrupted by the Darkness. Which didn’t make a lick of sense, as he had no heart now. That’s what made him a Nobody, right? No heart. What did it matter if he was corrupted or not? It was stupid, but he wore the cloak anyway because of the scare tactic that their Superior had used on him. 

Xemnas. Ugh. 

That guy was the worst. He hadn’t cared for him when they’d worked with him in Radiant Garden, and yet, he had somehow made an impression on him, as now he was here, working for him. At least Isa was here too. 

Isa. 

His best friend, the only person he cared about in the world. He had told him he would do anything for him, and he had proved his point. Now he was here, in the Castle That Never Was, serving a giant asshole while trying to make sure that his best friend was okay. It was really a terrible decision on his part, but there was nothing to be done about it now. 

Knock knock knock.

He heard a soft tapping on his door, which was odd as it was pretty late. Standing up, he walked over to the door and opened it. The person that was standing there looked as pale as a ghost, and before he could get a word out, they were falling towards him. “L-Lea…” 

Thrusting out his arms, he caught him before he could fall to the floor. Staring down at Isa - no, it was Saïx now - he saw something that made him sick to his stomach. Bissecting his eyes was a cauterized wound in the shape of an ‘X’. “Isa, no.” He whispered, staring at the wound, knowing that his friend was in immense pain. 

Axel gently picked up Saïx off the floor, holding him sideways in his arms. He carried him over to his bed, and carefully placed him on his back. Tears were running down his face as he looked at Saïx, who didn’t look good at all. The wound needed to be cleaned. It needed to be bandaged. But Saïx was holding tight to his hand, making it impossible for him to go and get the items to make that happen for him. 

“X-Xemnas.” Saïx mumbled, then pointed to his head with his other hand. 

There was a quiet rage building inside of Axel. Supposedly they didn’t have hearts now, but because they could remember their human lives, it’s what set them apart from other Nobodies that wandered around. “He didn’t, did he?? Why, Isa??” He clung to his hand, as it was the only body part truly accessible to him. He wanted to hold Saïx in his arms, but knew that if he moved him too much, it might hurt him. 

“To show…allegiance.” 

A soft sob left his mouth. “Why didn’t you say no?” 

“Because.” 

It was all that Saïx said before passing out. Axel waited until he was fully asleep before pulling his hand away from him. He got up, and went to his bathroom, fully stocked with bandages and the like, almost as if he knew something like this was coming. 

“This is going to hurt.” He quietly spoke to Saïx, who he knew as soon as he applied the medicine to his wound, it would wake him up and probably put him into his Berserker state. He’d been with Isa long enough to know how to tame that version of him, but he’d yet to see it manifest when they’d become Nobodies. 

As he dabbed the medicine on his wound, Saïx’ eyes opened and a loud snarl came out of his mouth. “Isa.” He warned him, as he continued to take care of the wound. “I need to do this!” He shouted at his friend, who was still growling at him. If there was one thing he could count on, it would be Isa’s Berserker mode. “Stop!” 

The snarling abated, and then he heard him whimper as he finished cleaning the wound. “Xemnas will pay for this.” Axel began to wrap a bandage around Saïx’ head, the wound needing to heal a bit. Tears were beginning to stream down his face, Axel completely unaware that he was quietly sobbing himself. “You have to wear this for a while, okay? I’ll change them when I can.” 

“I’m sorry, Lea.” It was a broken reply, and it hurt Axel to hear Saïx say such a thing. “I hate making you cry.” 

“I’m not crying.” He said, as he wiped away the tears that seemed to be never ending. “I’m going to use some cure magic on you. Can’t hurt, right?” He sniffled.

Saïx turned his head towards him. “You won’t leave me, will you?” 

“Never, Isa.” He reached down and pressed his hand against Saïx’ face, staring at the white bandage that shouldn’t be there. “Rest now. We’ll change the bandages in the morning.” 

“Please don’t be mad at me. I had to do what I had to do.” 

Lowering his head, he brought his forehead to Saïx’ chest, and felt him put his hand on the top of his head. “I know, Isa. It’s okay. I’m not mad at you. I could never be mad at you. I love you.” 

“I love you too.” 

They were words that were said often before they’d been turned into these modern day monsters. Words that held a different meaning now that they no longer had their hearts. But again, it was because of their memories that made them different. Always those memories to hold onto. 

Axel used curaga magic on Saïx, hoping it would speed up the healing of the wound Xemnas had decided to give to him. Once Saïx was fully asleep, he got up and went to the bathroom, where he took a good, long look at himself in the mirror. His eyes were bloodshot, his cheeks streaked with the tears that seemed to have no end. He was still crying, as he was sad for his friend. Sad and upset. Xemnas had no right to change Saïx’ face like that. Losing his blue eyes had been enough. Now, there was a constant reminder of being a part of this Organization. 

Closing his eyes, he recalled a magic spell he’d found in the library at Radiant Garden, and wondered if it would work. The spell was simple enough - all it required was a few incantations, and it should do what it was supposed to do. He had been somewhat good at using magic, and if this didn’t work, then he would try something else. As he thought of the spell, he could feel a transformation happen to himself - perhaps it was psychological. He wouldn’t know until he opened his eyes. But he needed this to happen. If he was going to be the strong one for the both of them, he couldn’t keep crying. These tears weren’t helping anyone. 

He took a deep breath and opened his eyes. Staring back at him was the same face, but now there were two purple upside down tear marks on both of his cheeks. The urge to cry was no longer there. The tears on his face were now permanent, and would keep the real tears away. These were tears that everyone could see. Tears that would never disappear. 

Satisfied that the spell had worked, Axel returned to his bed where Saïx was laying, and got into bed with him. As carefully as he could, he got himself comfortable next to his best friend, and drifted off to sleep with the mental image of Saïx’ beautiful face unmarred, as if it were all a bad dream.

He helped Saïx take care of the wound over the next few days. Every single night, Saïx would remain in his room, the two of them laying together and talking about memories from before when they were still human. He would get him to laugh, which made Axel the happiest. It was good to hear Saïx laugh, as he didn’t get to hear it much before this unfortunate accident. 

The day he took the dressings off, he saw Saïx frown. “What’s wrong??” He asked, clearly confused by this. “You’re supposed to be happy the bandages are off, Isa!” 

“Your face, Lea.” 

Saïx reached up with one hand and touched one of his new markings. “Oh, this? It’s nothing.” He shrugged, and gave a half-hearted laugh. “You should see what you look like yourself.” His own hand reached up and touched the healed X that was just above Saïx’ nose. 

“Why did you do it?” Saïx asked, as his fingers began to touch the other mark. 

He brought his forehead to Saïx’, and took a deep breath. “Because I didn’t want to cry anymore. They stop the tears, Isa.” 

“They’re permanent tears.” 

“They are.” 

“Why?” 

Cupping Saïx’ face with both of his hands, he stared into his eyes. “Are you really that stupid? Because of you, Isa. I don’t want to cry because of you. Because of this.” Leaning forward, he brushed his lips against the fresh scar, and heard Saïx cry softly. “You didn’t deserve this, Isa.” 

“I’m sorry, Lea.” 

“I’m sorry too.” 

He felt Saïx put his arms around him, and offered the same to him. They sat on the bed, hugging each other. Saïx cried, but Axel didn’t. There were no more tears left in his eyes. There would be no more tears until this madness came to an end, whenever that might be. For now, he would keep Saïx’ spirits up, and would make sure to keep him laughing, as that was the most important to him. He didn’t need to cry anymore, because his best friend would be with him, and that was all he needed in this new life as a Nobody.

Summary: Saix runs away from his roommate, because of jealousy issues.

Life at Destiny University wasn’t always sunshine and roses. Not that Saïx expected it to be that way, no - he understood that there would be good days and there would be bad days. But it sure felt like he was experiencing a string of bad days, and it was all because of one singular person. One person, who he shouldn’t give a damn about because they’d only met each other a few months ago when the semester had begun, and yet, here he was, his world in complete chaos because of this person. 

Axel Cinder. His roommate. 

They had been matched through the dormitory system, the system essentially saying that they would be perfect roommates together. And for the first few weeks, it seemed like the system was correct. Saïx found himself wanting to return back to his dorm after class, rather than hole himself up inside of the library, where he had access to all the books in the world. He would come home and find Axel sitting on the couch, playing a video game as a necessary break from academia, or so he was told by him. 

Axel was a conundrum. He had bright red hair that he wore in a peculiar fashion. He tended to wear his hair as if he were a human porcupine, and his follicles were the quills on a porcupine’s back. Not that Saïx could judge, as he himself chose to keep his hair dyed a light blue - almost the same color as the sky on a muted day. And let’s not forget about the tattoos that were on Axel’s body. 

Tattoos on his face. A full sleeve on his right arm, with a second sleeve being worked on on his left. His fingers always needed to be doing something - playing a game, typing on a keyboard, fiddling with a guitar pick. The guitar pick was a new addition, as Axel had been hanging out with someone that was in the music department on campus. Saïx tried not to care, but the more they began to hang out, the more his life became miserable. 

Pushing the key into the lock, Saïx gave it a quick twist and heard two people yelling at something as he pushed it open. He sighed, ducking his head down as he was not in the mood to deal with either of these two right at this moment. He had work that needed to be done for his philosophy class, and was going to need quiet. But it was too late to turn back around and head to the library, as he heard his roommate call out to him. 

“Sai? Is that you?” Axel’s voice drifted towards their front door, a small foyer separating the entrance from the rest of the dorm. 

He set his bag down, but didn’t take off his shoes as he was going to leave again. He turned the corner, and saw Axel was sitting on the couch, looking mildly annoyed as Demyx - his friend that was in the music department - was pointing at the screen and laughing, while holding the second controller in his hand. “Hey, Sai!” Demyx smiled at him. “How’s it goin’, man?” 

It took effort to not roll his eyes at Demyx, who was now returning to pointing at the screen. He looked at Axel, who was already focused back on the television. “I’m leaving.” He announced, seeing that he wasn’t really welcomed in his own dorm, thanks to this new friend of Axel’s. 

“Where are you going?” Axel asked. 

“As if you cared.” Saïx mumbled, then began to walk away. 

“If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t have asked.” 

The retort was unexpected, but that didn’t deter Saïx from continuing forward. “I’m going to the library. I need to concentrate on a project, and I can’t do that here if you both are yelling at the television.” 

“I can go!” Demyx offered. “It’s getting late, anyway. I should head back to the practice rooms and do some more work myself.”

Saïx was already at the door when he felt Axel’s presence behind him. He could feel his energy coming right towards him, and could smell the faint hint of cologne that had been put on earlier this morning. “You don’t have to go, Sai.” He waited for Axel’s hand to touch his shoulder, and when it didn’t, it only made the ache in his chest grow stronger as he knew that whatever was going on with Demyx, it had changed the dynamic in their dormitory. “I’ll be back late.” Saïx picked up his bag, and then opened the front door. “Enjoy the rest of your evening.” He didn’t bother to say anything else as he left the dorm, and shut the door behind him. He exhaled a deep breath before heading down the hall, to take the elevator back down to the first floor. 

The library was exactly what he needed. It was quiet. Inviting. Forgiving. Everything that it wasn’t back in his dormitory. Too bad he kept reading the same passage over and over, as if his brain would read the words by osmosis. He couldn’t concentrate. All he could do was think about that stupid redhead, who should only be an acquaintance to him, but they’d passed that stage weeks ago, and now were at a stage where he was miserable because of it. 

He looked at his phone and saw no new texts, and no missed calls. Axel had his number. They texted each other often - well, maybe not as much since he’d begun to hang out with Demyx, but that was besides the point. Axel could reach him if he wanted to. He could text the redhead if he wanted to. But did he want to?

Yes. Yes, he did. 

Saïx dropped his forehead down to the table with a loud thunk, an audible groan leaving his mouth at the momentary pain that had been caused to his body with his new position. He heard his phone vibrate, but didn’t bother to check it because he didn’t want it to be Axel. But he did. 

Lifting his head, he dropped his forehead back down with another loud thunk, the pain making him wince as his hand reached blindly for his phone. He saw it was a text, but it wasn’t from the person he wanted it to be from. Double whammy. This day was just getting worse and worse. 

He quickly fired off a return text to the person who was asking about notes for one of their classes. Once that was done, he checked the time. Seven after ten in the evening. It was late enough to go back to his dorm. The library would be closing in twenty, so this was as good a time as any to leave. Packing up his items, he got everything in order and began to make the trek across campus, back to where his dormitory was. 

Half expecting to hear both Axel and Demyx shouting at the television still, he was surprised by how dark the dormitory was. Axel’s door was closed, and there was no one in their common area. Fine. No big deal. Saïx took off his shoes and then made his way to where his room was, and quietly opened the door. He shut it with barely a sound, and then turned on his lights. 

Looking at his bed, he almost wished that there was someone waiting in it for him. Someone that was only a few steps away. But that was silly. They were roommates. Nothing else. They would never be anything but that, as it was clear that Axel had feelings for that musician. He was nobody. Saïx was someone you could live with, but that was it. You couldn’t do anything else with him. 

Saïx got undressed, and then laid down, wanting to put this miserable day to an end. As he was reaching for the light on his dresser, he heard a soft knock on his door. He could ignore it, pretend that he hadn’t heard it, but that would be a blatant lie. Axel hadn’t knocked on his door like this for a couple of weeks. He used to knock on it all the time, the two of them would stay up way too late talking about the most asinine things. Axel would sit on the floor with his back up against the bed, while Saïx would lay in bed and be hyper aware of how close Axel was to him, and how easy it would have been to invite him up on the bed to join him but never had the guts to do it. 

“Come in.” Saïx invited him, wondering what was going to happen. 

The door opened, and there stood Axel, who had showered at some point during the evening, as his red hair was not in its spiky format, but was laying limp over his shoulders. It was quite a look, one that made his stomach roll in appreciation at how attractive he was. “Hey. Can I come in?” 

“I said come in.” Saïx rolled his eyes, and laid on his back, staring up at the ceiling as he waited for Axel to close the door and sit on the floor next to the bed. What he didn’t expect was for his bed to shift, as Axel took a seat on the bed next to him. Scooting over, he gave more room to the redhead, who was now lifting his legs up and stretching them out on the bed. 

“Been wanting to talk to you.” Axel said, after they spent a few minutes in silence. Saïx wondered if Axel could hear how loud his heart was beating, as they were in such close proximity to one another. He couldn’t remember if they’d ever been this physically close, and it was slowly chipping away at his mind. “You mind if I turn the light off for this, Sai?” 

His cheeks grew warm, trying not to read too much into the suggestion. “Sure.” He knew that sometimes the cover of darkness helped dispel any fears a person might have in speaking to someone. It was almost anonymous in a way, that darkness helping facilitate that. He could feel Axel fidgeting next to him, and reached over to put his hand around his wrist, and felt him instantly still. “Talk to me, Axel.” 

“Okay, I don’t know where to start.” A loud breath left Axel’s mouth. “I know you’re mad at me.” 

“I’m not mad at you.” He was quick to defend himself. 

“Bad choice of words.” Axel groaned. “I meant that I know things are weird between us.” 

“You have changed.” Saïx didn’t bother to hold it back. If they were going to have this talk in the dark, he was going to use it to his own advantage. “Things were different a few weeks ago. Did I do something to make this happen, Axel?” 

A nervous laugh left the redhead’s mouth. “No! Not at all! I’m the one that’s been stupid, Sai.” He felt the weight of Axel’s head touch his shoulder, as Axel turned over to be closer to him. “I pulled away because things were moving so fast between us. It was scaring me.” 

“Scaring you?” His eyebrow rose up. “What do you mean?” 

“I mean that I’ve never met anyone like you before, Sai.” Axel’s fingers somehow found their way to his chest, and Saïx knew that there was no way he was going to be able to hide how fast his heart was beating from him. “I feel like you’re my soulmate. And that freaked me out.” 

“So you went to the music department, and found someone else.” He tried not to be too bitter as he spoke, but he could hear it slip out. 

The hand on his chest laid flat. “I”m not into Demyx. He’s just a friend. Nothing more.” 

“You guys sure seemed like it was something more.” Saïx wanted to roll away. He wanted to put distance between their two bodies, but having Axel’s hand on his chest was making him feel calm in a way he wasn’t expecting. 

“I was trying to see how you would act.” 

“And?” He asked, curious as to what Axel was going to say. 

“You ran away tonight.” 

He closed his eyes, and sighed. “I did.” 

“Why?” 

“Because I needed to study.” 

“Don’t lie to me, Sai.” 

The bed shifted again, and he could feel the weight of Axel’s body now hovering above his own. He opened his eyes, and saw the bright green of Axel’s irises staring right into his soul. “Because I didn’t want to see you flirting with him.” 

“You like me.” 

“Yes.” He didn’t bother to deny it. “I do.” 

“I’m going to kiss you now, okay? And things are going to change between us.” Axel’s hand touched his face, the gentle strokes of his finger on his cheek had Saïx’ eyelids falling closed. “Is that okay with you?” 

“Yes.” He repeated, a bit breathless this time. “I’m okay with tha-” 

Axel’s lips touched his with a soft, but firm kiss that he felt in his entire body. A moan escaped his mouth as he lifted his arms and put them around Axel’s neck, effectively keeping him right where he wanted him. As their kiss continued, he knew that this was what he’d been aching for these last few weeks. Sure, they had been total strangers only a few months ago, but through getting to know him, Saïx knew that he felt the same way as Axel. Axel was his soulmate - they were meant for each other. 

Breaking off the kiss with a soft pop, Saïx tilted his head back as Axel buried his face against the side of his neck. “Damn it, Saïx. That wasn’t fair.” 

“What wasn’t?” He asked, shifting a little so that they could lay more comfortably together on the bed. “And, are you going to kiss me again?” 

“I was planning on it!” 

“Good.” 

Axel brought his forehead to his, and the two shared a deep breath together. “Kissing you is going to be a problem.” 

“Wait until we have sex.” A smirk curled on his lips as he saw Axel’s face turn the same shade as his hair. 

“Sai!” 

Laughing, he pulled Axel towards him and shared another kiss with him. “In due time, Axel. I’m happy with this right now.” 

“Yeah?” 

“Yeah.” Saïx nodded his head. “Thank you for being brave enough to do this tonight, Axel. I mean it.” 

“I really like you a lot, Sai.” 

“I like you a lot too, Axel.” 

They stared at each other for a few minutes, and then their lips gravitated towards each other again for another round of kisses. Saïx knew that their sleeping arrangements were bound to change soon, and he honestly couldn’t wait. All the depression and sadness he’d been feeling was now gone, thanks to the redhead for owning up to his feelings for him. No more wondering what he’d done wrong, or why they’d stopped hanging out. Now it was going to be the two of them, together, for as long as Axel would have him. 

He hoped it would be forever.

special kisses - an isalea one shot

Summary: Isa isn’t used to having to share Lea with others, and when it happens, he becomes very unhappy.

A/N: Here’s my next offering for @akusaimonth​ festivities. Please enjoy!

Isa wasn’t someone who adapted very easily to new situations. Now, his best friend - Lea - was the complete opposite of him. Lea could go into something without knowing anything, and be comfortable with it. He would chat up complete strangers, and would have them laughing their heads off with some weird anecdote that Isa knew meant nothing, but to Lea and his audience, it meant everything. Isa sometimes wondered how the two of them were even friends, as Lea was so out of his element, it was almost laughable. 

But then, there were those quiet moments that they got to share with only each other. Lea spending time with him at his home, interacting with his family. Spending the night. He was attached to Lea in ways that he was too afraid to admit. 

He would be lost without Lea.

Only You - An AkuSai one shot

Title: Only You Fandom: Kingdom Hearts Pairing: AkuSai (Axel x Saïx) Rating: Teen (Minor Angst with a happy ending) Word Count: ~2,320 Prompt: Getting Stuck on a World/No Way to RTC

Summary: Axel is forced to go on a mission with his former best friend, Saïx. 

A/N: Happy Saïxel day - aka 7/8!! Here’s to another fun month of AkuSai things. :) Here’s my first offering for this year’s celebration for @akusaimonth! Please enjoy!

Axel knew it was going to be a bad day. He had this feeling in his gut that whatever assignment he was going to be put on, it wasn’t going to go the way he wanted it to go. And because of this, he delayed heading up to the Grey Area for as long as possible, as he really had no desire to do any work whatsoever for the Organization today. 

Dragging his feet, he walked into the Grey Area, and could see that his former best friend was standing with his back towards him, staring out at the ever present night of the World That Never Was. There was no one else in the area except for the Moogle, who was sitting in the corner, biding its time for when a member of Organization XIII would need its help. 

“You’re late.” Saïx said to him without turning around to look at him, his eyes still looking out the window. “Why are you late?”

• Don't hesitate to send me your works per dm if I somehow do end up missing them anyway!

• On tumblr all posts will be reblogged to the @akusaimonth tumblr

• On instagram I will collect all posts in the stories. It is also possible to invite @akusaimonth as a collaborator to showcase and collect your works on the @akusaimonth instagram page as well. All rights to your works remain with you of course!

• If you post to other sites (e.g. AO3, twitter, wattpad, youtube, ...) you can send me the link in a DM on either tumblr or instagram so I can add that link to the instagram stories and tumblr (assuming you didn't post it there yourself). Please let me know where you would like me to put the link and whether it contains NSFW content or not.

• I do retain the right to not share content I find in bad taste and I will ask you to remove it from the #AkuSaiMonth tags as well. I don't expect any problems, but just to be save.

Hey friend! :) You know what? Yes, let's just do it again! I've been considering for a while, but actually: The joy of seeing everone's works outweighs any negatives. So yeah! I'll get one together! (Even though it's suuuuper late. Sorry Dx)

It will be a Bingo again, same rules as last year too! I'll try to get everything ready before the next week!

Akusai's Month Week 5: Prompt - You have changed TwT

Happy Akusai Day part 2! 8/7 is here! So, when I first opened my bingo cart and I saw this prompt, along with "holding while the other cries", I shout out loud a I MUST DO THIS. But specially for this one, I feel is like the one phrase that I think represents these two the best.

And since it was very special, I had a hard time figuring out what to draw. I sketched a bunch of times the concept, I was originally going to make it a sad prompt, and draw Roxas and Xion... then I came up with this idea of them as kids and then in the organization and still thinking about making it sad but ... I don't know after seeing them so happy in the beach prompt I thought... They did changed when they became part of the organization and changed for worst but... during kh3 they changed again but for good and that's why they reconciled so they are happy now... so why not adding this too? And then it became this drawing c: I feel so happy how it came out like you can see the whole concept of their relationship and how special it is TwT Bingo card and final word for this yer's AkuSaiMonth below ↓ 

So this is when I say "Bingo!" right? Bingo! :D You have noooooo idea how happy I am of being able to join and celebrate my OTP not only for one day but for a whole month!! Akusai's Month Week 4: Prompt - Beach

Funnily enough, this is the prompt that I felt "less inspired" by and... end up being my favorite of them all. They look happy, they look sexy, they're in love, and that's all I ever wanted TwT

Also, is the first time I drew water like its surface (I think?) and... I can't believe I did that ... and I love it <3 w <3 and yessss that's a banana floatie, so now you can go get your own "Just Desserts" float c: Edit: Minor fix on color saturation. Bingo card below this.

Just one more week to call my bingo for this year's Akusai's Month <3 I'm still not sure about my composition for my last prompt but I'll figure it out. Luckily and with some effort, it will end up just as gorgeous (but less happy) than this one. @akusaimonth
