RP : Jean vs Eren
I know some RPs are filled with ok people, sane people who just want to have fun while talking as their choosen characters, but some RP are just seriously crazy. Especially when it’s about shipping.
Maybe this is a rant, or maybe I’m just being bad luck in RP. But please note that this opinion is only based on my personal experiences.
But I believe that there’s a lot of different atmospheres upon playing RP as Jean and Eren, and both are very opposite.
When playing as Jean, people tends to make horse-jokes and it makes me appreciate, I mean really appreciates any RP Groups that actually calls “Jean” with his real name. Seriously some people just cannot tell which are human and horse. The reason why I object this, is because no one calles Jean or address him as “horse”. They just called him “horse-face”, and as far as I remember “they” are just 2 people call him that : Eren and Hitch. And they don’t regularly call him “horse-faced”, Eren would just called him “Jean-bo” on Jean’s face instead of “horse-faced”, but so far no one calls Jean that.
Also, the hardest thing to play Jean is his real crush on Mikasa. This trait of Jean is turning into a big humiliation, especially if someone plays it in an RP group that filled with Eremika shippers, even worse if they have inflated ego. Especially when the one who plays Mikasa is not shipper of Jeankasa, this would turn into a bullying RP. And with rare people who ships Jearmin, Jean will stay single, bullied, and humiliated just because his canon feelings to Mikasa.
Meanwhile Eren enjoys the reverse. People misses Eren, they want Eren. Can’t put blame on this because Eren is the main character, which means everyone has certain link to him in some extend. But lets face it. It’s easier to have people’s attention and love, and also support when you play as Eren than when you play as Jean. Besides, Eren’s nickname is kindda cool huh? Suicidial Maniac.
At this point, I begin to think that Jean was never be Isayama’s most favorite character since begining.

I was thinking the same thing, about Bertholdt.
Then I reread it and find out that Bertholdt won’t hold back to kill his ex friends. All he think about his his homeland. In this situation, Bertholdt is a threat (and Reiner too). Bertholdt fight to win, and winning in his mind means he got Eren (even if he should kill his ex-comrades), he even regret to not killing them all at once. That’s what’s in his mind. In Bertholdt’s mind, the other ex-comrades have no means at all. That’s why I have no regret seeing him being a life-fooder for Erwin or Armin.
Tumblr media
There’s already debate on who will get the serum. Will it be Armin? Will it be Erwin? Either way no one seems to care that Bertolt is right there too, in the same page as Armin and Erwin, as a potential person to get the falling axe. Both the fans and the characters are treating him as some sort of tool to revive their loved one, throwing him around like a sack of meat as he lies there unconscious, clueless of what’s in store for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m personally not sure what will happen with the serum, but I believe Isayama created this situation to put the reader’s humanity to a test. Can the readers understand that everyone involved in this conflict is human? Can they sympathize with them, like a normal human should? For one, the characters themselves don’t.
Except for Jean of course, who once again showed that he’s the voice of reason and humanity in the series, even if that worked against him in the end.
Tumblr media
Even after everything that happened, Jean still has sympathy for his enemies, and that’s because he’s human, as Isayama himself says. Jean is supposed to be a relatable character who speaks the reader’s mind. So what went wrong this chapter? Because for one, the reaction I see from the readers is completely different to Jean’s. Is the fandom so attached to their favorite characters that they don’t even care if other two have to die for their sake?
Someone might bring up that the enemies don’t deserve sympathy since they’re bad people who killed innocent civilians for their evil cause, but I don’t see anyone paying attention to what their war chief said this chapter.
Tumblr media
It looks more and more that the main characters might not be exactly the good guys in this story, but they’re clueless about what they did wrong so the readers can’t blame them for trying to fight back. Soon enough we might find out that these enemies have a good reason to want humanity to be annihilated, as Hanji speculated earlier in the series.
Tumblr media
So what did humans do that was so unforgivable to justify the entire human race being annihilated? Is it something Grisha did? Something the First King did? Humans having their memories wiped clearly plays a big role in this.
Tumblr media
But by all means, let’s ignore all the insight we got on the antagonists this arc so we can fight over who should get the falling axe, failing to see the bigger picture Isayama so carefully laid out for us.

DID YOU KNOW?
The inside covers of the Japanese graphic novels have text on them. It’s basically the same image for all of the novels, so this isn’t actually a spoiler.
The text turns out to be upside-down nigh-illegible katakana, but the Japanese side of the SnK fanbase has managed to render it into something more readable.
It seems to concern the history of humanity before the walls.
I’m not great at Japanese, but I tried my hand at translation.

earlier I type theories about upcoming event about Armin and Eren’s relationship, that involved Historia and Jean.
But after reading this, I still think that it has something to do with Bertholdt’s memories, and about Zeke’s opinon about his father. Can’t tell which one is right, so far the story seems to directed that Marleyans are liars and Eldians are the victims. could be 3 possibilities :
1. Marleyans are the liars
2. Eldians are liars
3. both are lying at some points.
I prefer to stay quiet because some crucial facts are not being released yet. but if I have to make quess, it will be
1. Armin believe in Marleyan’s history and turn against Eren
2. Armin discover the true history about Marley and Eldia, and he decide the right thing, but it will be against his best friend : Eren
but I begin to think that in some way, Ymir’s curse will be erased in the end of the story.
Tumblr media
I just read something that disturbed me, so I went and check to confirm with my own copy
Isayama seems to have said that Eren and Armin may not end up as good friends by the end. Or am I interpreting this wrong, please tell me I’m wrong! My Japanese is just that shitty right?

Isayama Hajime’s Interview on Colossal Titan
From Gekkan Shingeki no Kyojin, Volume 12
[translation: @yusenki | editing: @leviskinnyjeans | proofreading: @plain-dude ]
The Colossal Titan is the God of this (SNK) world. I must draw him to resemble God… With that in mind, I have redrawn the Colossal Titan numerous times. I think it’s not an exaggeration to say that I had bet all I had on it. The Colossal Titan’s existence is the icon [mascot] of Shingeki no Kyojin. I thought it is one of the most important things.
In order to convey my idea at that time, I must touch on The Dark Knight theory from the movie critic, Tomohiro Machiyama. According to Machiyama-san, The Dark Knight is based on the epic poem, Milton’s “Paradise Lost”. If you are able to live in heaven, you may be able to live happily; however, in the end, isn’t it the equivalent of becoming God’s slave? For example, even if you were banished from heaven, and plunged into hell, you should choose freedom. That is the theme of “Paradise Lost”. They were called Devils. Paradise Lost depicts a large scale battle between God and the Devil.
In SNK, the people who choose to go outside the wall, are the people who choose the freedom of Hell. They have chosen to cast aside their welfare for uncontrolled freedom. And their enemy, the Titans, especially the Colossal Titan, lord over the slaves from Heaven. He (the Colossal) is no other than the God of the (SNK) world. The reason why I felt the Colossal Titan needs to look like the God is because this is an important idea related to the story’s foundation. Even now, this remains one of the most important ideas for SNK.
Note: Paradise Lost is an epic poem spanning 12 books, which depicts the fall of Satan from Heaven, and the banishment of Adam and Eve from Paradise. The poem has been a cause of much literary analysis as readers and critics alike remain divided on the nature of God, the Devil, and how Milton’s views on government might affect the story.*
Satan in the novel rebels against God over who should rule. Satan believed that all Angels should have ruled the Heavens equally. Milton was against the monarchy of Charles Stuart.

Character Relationship Flow Chart - Mikasa Ackerman
From Gekkan Shingeki no Kyojin, Volume 3
[Translation: @yusenki; Editing: @fuku-shuu ; Image: @clevergirlraven]
Whichever military branch Eren chooses, she’ll go with him - that is Mikasa’s resolution. As the top graduate among the trainees, Mikasa chose to be in the SC instead of the privileged MP, because she wanted to be with Eren. Eren is the only family member she has and also her most important person, so the option to leave Eren has never crossed her mind at all.
Mikasa → Levi - Holds grudge towards him for hurting Eren.
Levi →  Mikasa - Highly values her skills.
Mikasa →  Sasha - Blames her as the source of noise.
Jean →  Mikasa - Is interested in her.
Mikasa →  Jean - Does not notice him.
Jean ↔ Eren - Cats & dogs-type relationship.
Hannes →  Shiganshina trio are like his own children.
Mikasa →  Armin - Friend.
Eren →  Mikasa - Noisy, like his mother.
Mikasa →  Eren - Important family.
Grisha & Carla →  Eren - Son.
Carla →  Mikasa - Entrusts Eren to her.
Mikasa →  Yeager family - Was placed in custody of.
Mikasa’s parents - Mikasa - Parents & child.
Crooks →  Mikasa’s parents - Killed.
Crooks →  Mikasa - Kidnapped her to sell her off.
Mikasa → Crooks - Retaliated against them along with Eren; later understanding the notion that the world is cruel.

Isayama Hajime’s Interview on Mikasa Ackerman
From Gekkan Shingeki no Kyojin, Volume 3
[Translation: @yusenki; Editing: @fuku-shuu ; Image: @clevergirlraven]
After I first moved to Tokyo, there was a period when I worked part-time at an internet cafe in a shopping district, on the late-night shift. Because it was so late, there were lots of times when huge crowds of drunkards surged in. That fear I possessed from the unpleasant feeling of not being familiar with them ended up becoming a big influence in the SNK story. Also at that time, one of the clients I met [by chance] became the model of Mikasa. She covered her face with a muffler late at night, and I thought this look of hers was endearing [cute]. When she came to the store, I felt something and quickly started to sketch on the memo pad I had in my hand. The sketch from that time was the original drawing of Mikasa.
I am sure that the customer who became Mikasa’s model was Asian - or perhaps should I say she must be Japanese. However, as you may know, in SNK, Eren and the other characters’ races have yet to be revealed. Only Mikasa’s race as someone of Asian descent has been noted. Of course, there is further meaning involving the story’s plot, but that is to be revealed in future. But when you get to the core of it, her conception is because the lady who served as model for her was Japanese, and that’s why Mikasa is an Asian [laugh].
I got Mikasa’s name from the old Japanese navy’s battleship “Mikasa.“ I followed the legend that if you name the female character with one of the battleship names, your work will become famous. For example, Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Ayanami Rei & The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya’s Yuki Nagato. There are some parts of Mikasa that are unrefined, yet on the other hand, she has a brave personality. I think these are influenced from the heroine of Berserk, Casca. At that time while drawing, I didn’t realize it - but after a while, I realized that Mikasa resembles Casca.
It is quite generic that a heroine is usually a woman who motivates a man. However, I don’t really like that way of thinking. There was a time when my head actually filled up with the idea of Mikasa turning that kind of character development around. That is the reason that she became a strong woman who excels in combat. In reality, there are differences between the skeletal structure and muscle count of men & women which cause the difference in their potential strengths. However, if that fact is just reflected in the manga normally, it wouldn’t be interesting anymore.
For Eren, rather than a lover, Mikasa’s presence is more like a mother to him. The love towards a mother is considered valuable [precious], however at the same time, there are annoying parts as well [laugh]. Just like towards one’s actual mother, Eren will start to grow up when he becomes independent [move away/not dependent on] from Mikasa, I might draw this scene one day.

I’ve been a fan of Berserk (especially godlen age arc) since 2010, and think of making tribute to it. Linkin Park’s Burn it Down finally selected as background music, because I think the lyric match to Griffith’s view. He build it up to break it down and build another one better.
