         “ Just some shrapnel? ” the surgeon repeats with the tenderest laugh, EMERALD eyes searching for his amidst their dance. “ You’re very a lucky guy, Jax, ” she says, fingers interlacing behind his neck as a chin elevates to look at him closely, her head shaking slightly with a click of her tongue. “ Someone definitely has a close eye on you. I mean, ” a pause, the littlest scoff leaving peach-stained lips, “ If you believe in that sort of thing. ”  Angels, God. After all that has been witnessed thus far, including some twisted version of REINCARNATION, the woman’s own beliefs have been challenged.

                Even    before    the    outbreak,    he's    been    lucky.    Been    shot    once    or    twice,    and    doctors    are    still    amazed    at    how    he    has    managed    to    get    up    and    go    before    he's    expected    to.    Another    laugh,    but    it's    heartier    this    time,    full    of    life.    Like    he's    genuinely    happy    for    once    in    his    miserable    life.    "    They're    called    a    medical    team,    Doc.    without    'em    I    woulda    been    dead    years    ago.    "    He's    not    trying    to    be    morbid,    but    he    IS    trying    to    be    truthful.

                Hands    rest    on    her    waist    still,    swaying    to    the    song.    He's    surprised    it    even    still    works,    honestly.    But    it    reminds    him    of    the    good    times    in    the    army.    When    he    was    on    a    short    medical    leave,    and    he    felt    like    there    was    all    the    time    in    the    world    for    him.
