This was obviously a subject that Akane didn’t wish to speak about. Images of her family being slaughtered before her came rushing back, and the smaller vampire has to bite her lip to refrain from making any noises in response to the man’s probing.

Jareth whipped his head as he glared at the girl, barking, “Don’t play smart with me girl! I know how you were turned, I really meant why would a progenitor turn a human child into a vampire. Did you attack him? Did you try to run away? Did he slaughter her love ones, but left you alive for your life to be a living hell then? WHY?”

Once seated, Akane falls quiet as she ponders over the man’s question. It’s not one she really wants to question, not after she had pretty much given away who had been behind her turning. “... Through the same process that many others do, I assume..”

Jareth looked down at the child and sighed heavily once they arrived at his helicopter. “Come in.” The blonde held out his hand to help the tiny child unto the machine before he climbed in afterwards. “We should arrive shortly, anyways care to tell me how you became a vampire.”

“It must be something if you won’t look at me.”

Akane teases him gently, watching as the other buries his face against his knees. The action itself is enough to bring a soft bubble of laughter to her lips. She’s not used to seeing Mika act this way, and so she can’t help but let her amusement show.

“Did I do something weird?”

We Are Still Family.

“N-nothing.” He stuttered a little. Mika would not admit it but Akane was very pretty. He avoided eye contact with her the second that he caught himself look at her again. 

The vampire tried to bury his face in his knees to hide his slightly flustered expression. How he wished he had something to talk about with her. He really more than anything right now wanted to be able to hold a conversation with her like he used to, about anything really.

Akane hadn’t expected any further reaction from him, so it’s no surprise that Mika has her full attention when he moves. Smiling, she reaches up to gently press her hand to his own.

“No monsters.” She repeats his words softly, her voice now somewhat hopeful. It’s clear that he is still affected by his thoughts and memories, but Akane does not expect those to leave him be so easily. The most she wants is for him to at least make some progress with how he deals with them.

“Are you feeling a little better now, Mika?”

He took a few shaky breaths, the palm of his hand pressed against his eyes as he tried to wrestle down the self-loathing that was almost choking him  It was her voice though, exactly like it had been that night, that finally triggered his protective instincts as he forced himself to his feet.

“No monsters,” He murmured, softly, almost hesitantly touching at her hair. He couldn’t quite smile, but his eyes were softer than they had been in a long while.

“Please. You’re very interesting.”

Akane laughs softly and shakes her head, pulling the cloak closer to herself for a moment. It’s then that she realizes that the blond is still watching her, and she can’t help but feel slightly self conscious.

“What is it...?”

We Are Still Family.

The vampire shook his head. “I have nothing important to do.” He told her calmly resting his arms on his lap. “And no worries, I’m boring too.” He teased with a very slight smile as he turned to look at her for a moment. The boy caught himself staring at her in that moment. 

He broke his gaze when he realized that this extended period of tie that he had gazed upon her was a little creepy. 

He kept his head after that still not saying much to her.

Truth be told, she’s a little hurt by his reaction, but Akane understands. Her gestures are doing more harm than good it seems, even if she had intended for the opposite to happen.

“... Alright. I’m sorry..”

She releases him and allows the taller vampire some space, however, she makes no move to leave his side. 

His arm trembled when she wrapped hers around it, her kindness more painful than if she had spit in his face.  

“Don’t,” He hissed, shying away from her touch. “I don’t deserve it.”

Now I’m just imagining Mika and tiny Akane fighting alongside each other and just ... Akane is a mini speed demon who covers the ground while Mika is the tower that covers the sky
