Seeing these posts where some people's favorite version of jason is just permanently dead. And the opinions range from 'oh I don't like him' (which fair, people are allowed to hate characters) to 'he should just exist as a reminder of bruce's failure.'
So Jason for you exists not as his own character, but as a way for other characters to be sad and 'ohh the hero business is dangerous look at what happened to jason because he was reckless.' Can I just say I hate that? I hate that his death meant nothing, I find everything that happened to him so unfair, and to genuinely believe a child has more worth when they're dead? That genuinely bothers me.
I don't want his story to be realistic and for it to show the consequences of being a hero. Why is it just him? Why can't he exist away from the effects his death had on other people? Why can't he be angry about what he went through without other characters crying about how his death hurt them and how he should be "normal" and calm? Why is he worth more when he's dead? His own writers hated him and killed him off, he stayed that way for a really long time, he comes back just to have him be a cautionary tale and find out his death meant nothing. He's his own character, he's more than his death, he exists outside of bruce's memories and angst. Why does he have to exist only as a reminder of someone's failure? Like I don't know I just find it kind of unsettling, I don't need reminders on how fucked up the world is, I know that, I just want a character I relate to and love to be more than his trauma and more than what he represents for other characters. He can haunt the narrative while he's alive and well and causing problems on purpose thank you very much.

If this change to Jason is permanent I’m going to become violent. I don’t know about y’all but “forever alter” sounds pretty permanent to me.
There is something particularly disturbing about making the kid who no matter what, his defining trait always becomes that he was brutally murdered and came back angry and alone and scared, being afraid for the rest of his life. I’m tired of the Robins, Jason in particular, being nothing more than a cautionary tale for others. He is more than what he represents to Bruce and his mission, and I’m so tired of him being reduced to a lesson.
What are y’all’s thoughts on this bc I am livid.

The only thing that bothered me about this issue and the most recent representations of Jason.
I'm really tired of Jason being seen as stupid.
And I think this has had a lot to do with Fanon as well. If you ask someone who is the Robin who hates school and studying and other bad examples. They'll tell you "it's definitely Jason, he hates all that because he's the bad, tough guy and for that reason he's also the dumbest of the Robins."
#jason todd#I'm tired of people thinking Jason is stupid.#Jason is not stupid#Seriously#he is very calm and serious when he is working.#he has been trained by Batman in several areas#the League of Assassins#All Caste and had previously been trained by professionals#I don't know what the hell I do with the tags

me : jason and bruce had arguably the best relationship in the batfam prior to his death, dick and bruce had their difficulties but depending on the canon they were amicable, jason never hated dick he just had insecurities on his place as robin and never had antagonistic feelings towards dick and vise versa with dick to jason, bruce never compared dick to jason like a fucking asshole with no sense of awareness ,he constantly tried to tell jason was good enough afterwards it was mostly just never brought up
tom taylor : i didnt hear any of that and i follow all fanon tropes because im just like that :) also im just gonna follow writers making bruce into a military general and not a compassionate father cause i legit havent read anything past the 90s

Jason Todd’s strategy abilities
I noticed that there’s lack of recognition of this side of Jason’s character which is shame so I’m gonna show it.

You know what I miss the most about Jason? Him being cunning chaotic little shit.
You know the one who claimed he doesn’t care about the world and then saved London and took time to ensure that people won’t be falsely accused, the one who played a whole Gothan underground, the one who helped Outsiders and Dick proving Black Lightning innocence just because he wanted to and at the same time messed with Bruce and Ollie, the one who stabbed Onyx and then tended to the wounds that he inflicted on her because he just wanted to mess with her rather than actually kill her. And none of them could catch him.
It was just so entertaining for me.
I think that’s his perfect dynamic with Batfam instead of being buddy-buddy with them.
