Is Shigaraki just a knock off of Anakin Skywalker? And can we expect a return for our beloved antagonist?

As a lot of us are aware, Horikoshi really loves Star Wars and US superhero comics. Here’s a thread on how Shigaraki’s “ending” (because the series isn’t over yet) is vastly similar to Anakin’s end in Return of the Jedi. I’m convinced Tomura was strongly influenced by him

To start: Shigaraki has a similar relationship with AFO as Anakin and Emperor Palpatine share. There is the dark heartless manipulative leader of evil and the groomed apprentice. Shigaraki was even given the same scar on his right eye that Anakin has.

There was even a ton of similarities between Anakin’s dying speech to Luke and Shigaraki’s to Izuku. Well kinda, because Anakin/Luke was a very emotional scene and Shigaraki/Izuku tried to have the same concept but felt WAY more empty and unfulfilling.

Both Anakin and Shigaraki are strongly motivated by hatred and anger to fuel power

Parts in the speech’s that were similar:

Anakin: “You were right. You were right about me”

Shigaraki: “maybe I really am just a crying little kid, like you said”

A) “Tell your sister…”

S) “If Spinner survived this, tell him…”

——————-

Anakin) *in reference to being saved by Luke* “you already have”

Izuku) “It’s already been destroyed”

Luke later sees Anakin’s Ghost while burning Vaders armor at the funeral.

This is a very similar ability to Izuku being able to see all the users in the vestige world

But here’s the difference:

Anakin k***ed children. Did just as much damage as Shigaraki, if not more, yet in the end Luke says:

“I’ll not leave you here, I’ve got to save you!”

But Izuku says:

“Everything you did, I couldn’t let it stand…” while finishing him in a final blow

That small difference between the two different dialogues changes the tones drastically, but not in Horikoshi’s favor.

The set up of the entire manga was saving and forgiveness and that’s what we expected, not a cold shoulder to death. Even Anakin had a heart felt end!

So what do you think? Will Shigaraki remain a copycat ending to Anakin and show up one last time as a vestige? Or does Horikoshi have something much more original and exciting up his sleeve for his main antagonist that’s been tortured throughout the series?

I think now is a better time than any to post my most recent fanart of Shigaraki after the most recent chapter leaks 🥲 please no animosity, this is just my personal interpretation of how he is viewed overall and is not fair in my eyes since he is a victim in the grand scheme of things.

The pain of our inner child will always manifest its way into our adult lives one way or another. Only when we listen to them and guide them to their true desires will we set them free.

All of this was freehand while looking at references for character details, line art and expressions. I also used the symmetry tool to speed up the process with most of the line-art and color.

A practice cover shot of my manga I’m working on. I’m going to be posting more original character art, world concepts, and mini comics here and there. This was done completely free handed with no references what so ever. I’m challenging myself to draw details, shadows, perspectives, and characters from memory as a creative exercise.

My manga takes place in the future, where the beginning of the end of he world takes place. Without giving away too many details, Yellowstone erupts starting a second ice age, making the world more and more inhabitable everyday. For those that survived the volcanic blast, the highly skilled civilians, women, and children are sent to live in an underwater dome which will now be their home until further notice. Leaving the rest of the population, not allowed in the dome for space issues, to fend for themselves on land.

A nuclear winter occurs on the surface as a result of the volcanic eruption which slowly causes mutations in the people and animals over time, which also includes dangerous ocean life that surrounds the dome.
