i stand by that the REAL TRAGIC STAR CROSSSED LOVERS are not buffy and angel but angel and darla. I think you can SEE how well they’d truly work together in a healthy way during the trials and we’ve SEEN how well matched they are in a toxic capacity in like, literally every angelus flashback. 

i think part of his attraction/infatuation with buffy is that she looks like darla. she’s also some what commanding like darla but on the whole she’s safe. she’s not evil or anything and she’s young, nice etc. she’s what he should love. but romantically it’s shallow, she’s his riley. He cares for buffy deeply and loves her like a friend but he’s not in love with her and it’s part of what spells their long term issues along with all the mountains of trauma.

cordelia is MUCH closer to darla in personality, tastes, goals, dynamic but she’s a good person and she’s healthy for him. she doesn’t put up with his shit but she’s also supportive and sympathetic. she’s the personality type he’s genuinely the most attracted too and uhhh cordy’s drop dead gorgeous. she’s much closer to what a well adjusted darla could’ve been and i think that’s why they work so well together, why he falls so hard for her and the ship is just so strong.

the whole baby connor/holtz arc but angel loses his soul bc Miracle Baby and darla lives while also remembering what it was like to have a soul and still VICIOUSLY loving her son both bc of soul and bc of who she is as a vampire and the whole thing turning into a fucking angelus-darla SHITSHOW while wesley, cordy, gunn and lorne are just like fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

i read a fic recently where holding connor after he was born knocked the soul RIGHT outta angel and tbh it never sat well w/ me that like... at ANY point when he had lil baby connor he didn’t have a perfect moment of happines??? like.... cmon..... I SAW HIM !!!!! I WATCHED THE SHOW!!! 

so that’s a thing here now. exactly when i’m not 100% on yet either in the alley, the moment he holds connor or a bit later when thing’s are like... IMMEDIATELY super tragic and on fire like when connor’s crying and he finally gets him to sleep.

also if vampo darla can CONCEIVE A CHILD and WHY CAN’T SHE GIVE BIRTH??? like unless she has some other reproductive medical issues at play here which is possible her body is technically built to do this and she seems to be in contractions/labor or similar coming into the alley thing so like.... why can’t???? she just???? have the fucking baby???? why she gotta die like that???? idk seems fucking fact to me
