it’s been a loooong while since I have posted some original content on my blog, so I thought that the approaching school year would be a great opportunity to take advantage of! :)
I’m going to be a senior in high school this year (😰) so I am hoping to go out with a bang! this is the most excited I have been for a school year and I also hope to make it the most successful school year. yes, senior year is deemed to be easy but I still want to challenge myself throughout my last couple of semesters. this year I’ll be taking the courses: AP English, AP Psychology, Gov/Econ, Statistics, and Photography.
I’d like to share my goals for myself that I plan to achieve with you and maybe give you some tips/inspiration to set up for yourself! if you have anything to add to this post, feel free to! just don’t delete my caption, please :)
GOALS/TIPS/IDEAS
1) Have no “C” show up on my report card. now, there is nothing wrong with getting a “C”, especially if you tried so hard. you still passed! at my school, we only have A, B, C or F. last year, I really lost discipline over what I had to do and barely passed two classes. and every year before that, I earned a C in all my math classes, I hope to end that pattern this year. I know if I really work hard and put priorities in order, I can get a B in that Stats class.
2) Complete and turn in every assignment, no matter what. I don’t think I can stress just how important it is to have no missing assignments enough. for example, a 3/10 is soo much better than a complete red box. those missing tasks really add up and do affect your grade, so no matter how half-assed the assignment ended up being, turn it in.
3) Ask freaking questions. in all my math/science classes, there has always been an instance where I’m in class, taking notes and then the teacher writes something or says something, and I go “wtf just happened” and then didn’t ask a question because I was afraid to look stupid. (granted, I had a terrible, uncooperative, unhelpful, teacher last year that would actually make fun of me for asking, scoff, then return to the board without giving me an answer, that was so much fun.) but I know that I have to put that fear of looking dumb behind me because I would definitely benefit from getting that answer and most likely help someone else in the class who was scared to ask as well. this also means going to the teacher during office hours or even during class to ask for help. hopefully, you don’t get a teacher like my old one and actually get some help. it is the teacher’s job, after all, just go and ask. they want to see you succeed.
4) Go to all sporting and dance events possible. as great as studying is and as important as it is, don’t spend every single hour of every single day staring at notes and textbooks. it just isn’t good to overload your brain like that and you need a break. studyblrs encourage studying constantly and I don’t think we encourage relaxation and having fun enough as we should. instead of spending your friday nights stressing over monday’s test, go watch the football game! there’s so much school spirit and its so exciting and doing it with friends makes it even better. and instead of skipping out on prom or homecoming or even a silly in the gym dance because you think you need to be spending your weekend revising, go to the dance! you won’t remember your flash cards and notebooks when you look back on high school, you’ll remember the fun things. in ten years, you’ll be more disappointed in the things you didn’t do than the things you did do.
5) Become a social butterfly. if you’re anything like me, you experience major FOMO (fear of missing out) very, very often. I’ve always wanted to be friends with everyone and be nice and do my best to make everyone feel loved because everyone deserves to feel like that. it sucks that I’ve waited until my senior year to really change my social life but hey, better late than never. I hope it will carry into college.
6) Narrow down five colleges to apply to in the fall. I kind of know what I want to do with my life, I would love to teach history at the middle school or high school level so I can start there. I live in southern california and I am blessed to have so many options around me. I’m so excited for college! everyone in california wants to go to UCSB, so of course, that’s in my sights but let’s hope I can get in. for applying for college, you have to have a back up for a back up for a backup. but make sure you love all of the choices! it is the next 2-14 years of your life after all 😂
7) Enjoy my last year. I want this year to be a good one, and I want to do that in any way I can. I want to be the best student I can be, that means befriending my teachers and really putting discipline over motivation to good use. I want to be the best friend I can be, that means being there for my friends when they need a laugh or a shoulder to cry on or taking every opportunity to hang out with them. I want to be the best girlfriend I can be, meaning giving my boy all the love he deserves and spending quality time with one another. and be the best me I can be. self care is so important, guys. take time for your well being, it’s so worth it.

Happy new year everyone! To start the new year off, why not write a smol guide on new year’s resolutions for the studyblr community? Some may think that resolutions are dimwitted and pointless, but in my perspective I believe that it is your attitude, intentions, and truthfulness that influence how you stick to them throughout the year. If you are reading this post much later on in the year, don’t feel like you can’t make resolutions; “new year’s resolution” is nothing but a timely label. C:
✽ Create realistic resolutions: Very very important! Only set such goals that are within or a little higher than your capabilities. Rather than saying that you’re going to start studying for 6 hours every single day when you’ve only been doing 3 hours every other day, maybe do 3 hours everyday or 4 hours every other day. It really depends on who you are, but just remember to consider everything around your life such as your health, extracurriculars, etc.
✽ Change what NEEDS to be changed: Ya know, I’m a fan of being disciplined to yourself because I think it’s important for success. Hence, reflecting back on the past year and identifying the negatives is how you determine what you need to alter. For example, if you’ve been getting too distracted that you often lose track of time, don’t put that bad habit off!! Consulting a family member or friend can help you determine what you can fix.
✽ Make them specific: This is a way to get disciplined with your resolutions and stick to them throughout the year. Structure or elaborate your wording so that there can’t be any loopholes. Instead of saying that you’re going to sleep earlier, set a number like 8 hours. Just don’t be too hard on yourself!
✽ Stay consistent: The reason why we fail to fulfill our resolutions is because we only have that motivation in the beginning, and that spark soon dies out. Constantly remind yourself of the goals you want to achieve—write them on a post-it and stick them right on top of your desk. I also suggest keeping a tracker if you’re a fan of that! ^^
✽ You may not achieve every resolution, and that’s okay: As human beings, we’re not perfect creatures. Even successful people fall into some folly sometimes. Just remember to try your very best and take care of yourself along the way!
My New Year’s Resolutions: (bc why not share em to put dat pressure on me to achieve em! :D) ✽ be more: kind, full of love, healthy, humble, faithful, disciplined (with studies!), bubbly, consistent ✽ journal almost everyday: personal and french journal (especially!); make it a habit to write during weekend mornings ✽ Make my bed EVERYDAY!! “No time” is no excuse anymore ✽ prepare for college! GET TO THE MINDSET! ✽ always keep in touch with my friends <3 ✽ DRAW MORE especially for my art portfolio ✽ read more: philosophy, sustainability, architecture, history, art, scientific theories, politics ✽ take care of your friends’ health! (let them sleep early) ✽ actually try to save money? ✽ listen to more music of different genres -> EXPLORE AND DON’T BE AFRAID TO TRY NEW THINGS ✽ be more active in my study social media; please find more time to have a schedule!!!; also write more advice posts

(yes this is long, but it’s worth the read) As a teenager you don’t really need to worry about money, but it’s important to build a healthy relationship with it! these are my personal tips and tricks/ what has worked for me
how do i spend less money?
have a coin jar where you put all your coin change and don’t keep change in your wallet (my dad had one of these with over $300 in it!)
track your spending!! you can use an app, or use a physical notebook.
i use a notebook and have 4 columns: item, price, date, then at the end of the month i total my spending
use student discounts!! also coupons!!! check groupon or retailmenot for coupon codes (they always save me like $7 on papa johns pizza)
bring a water bottle with you when you go out with friends bc spending money on water is annoying
use libraries or borrow books from friends instead of buying books, wait until holiday sales/ your birthday to buy expensive things (like jeans, a computer, a fitbit), buy off-brand stuff
go to the store with a goal in mind so you don’t end up buying more than you need. go to target thinking “i need a new moleskine notebook and pens for my bullet journal” instead of not knowing what you need.
also take college level classes in high school (but only if you think you can succeed). getting credit now means you might get to save some money on classes in college
why should i save money?
as a teenager you likely aren’t buying your own food, toiletries, phone bill, and other necessities, so you have the potential to save the largest percentage of your income!
college is expensive, moving out is expensive, saving money now will take some pressure off you in the future.
where do i get the money?
get a job! (if you’re old enough to work legally) not only is working part time a good source of income, but it gets you out of the house and gets you doing something that is not school. and it will improve your people skills (also college apps)
how do i get a job?
ask! it’s terrifying the first few times but after that it’s okay.
look at snagajob.com and indeed.com ! be warned: not all companies will hire teens
go to job fairs! your school or local teen organization might host some
pesit/babysit/housesit/plantsit/walk dogs/shovel snow/rake leaves/ do yard work: make an ad and put it on your social media, have your parents put your ad on their social media, if your neighborhood has a website or board type thing put one there!
sell your old stuff: there’s all those apps (poshmark depop), but i think a traditional yard sale is the easiest
make a change jar! grab some old container and just throw all your spare change in it, by the end of the year you’ll be shocked by how much you have
ask for an allowance from your parents or ask if they can pay you for household chores
okay i have some money, now what?
set up a savings account: i think maybe you have to do this with your parents?? i suggest using the same bank as your parents
set a goal for how much you want to save. this could be in a percent, or an amount monthly, or an amount yearly, or you could do that thing where you save every $5 bill you come into contact with
ex. i started 2017 with a goal of $20 a month (w/o a job), and in 2018 i’m upping it to $150 a month
think about money. you’re saving money to invest in your future, to invest in yourself, to not start out your life in thousands of dollars of debt. doesn’t that sound better than having designer jeans or $20 pens?
but also treat yourself! we’re still kids! we can have fun and spend money a little outrageously sometimes. ( and by this i mean sure go to a baseball game with your friend and buy $20 of fries, not buy a bunch of super expensive stuff that is not going to make you happy)

So it’s August. You’ve enjoyed a restful summer break and now feel pumped up and ready to hit the books again. You set some goals for the new school year, but how do you achieve them?
My academic goals for the next school year are as follows:
Get university offers
Revise AS content consistently throughout the year
Get a-level grades of A*AA
Get into my first choice university
How to set goals:
To find some goals for yourself, try and think about where you didn’t do so well this past academic year. Was it in one particular subject? Was it that you worked hard at homework but then failed every test? Was it that you were constantly stressed by the never-ending stream of work coming your way? Try and write these down and they should give an indication of what you should change.
How to achieve them:
However, goals don’t always get achieved. For example, this past year I aimed to revise content throughout the year as I learnt it. This didn’t happen because I simply couldn’t find the time. Week after week would pass with me not finding the time to revise on top of keeping up with homework and making notes. So what is going to change this year? How will I be more motivated and productive?
One of my main goals is to revise previous material consistently throughout the year. I aim to do this by setting aside 2 hours each week to revise. 45 minutes each for economics and history and 30 minutes for maths. I will choose a time slot as soon as I have my new timetable in September. This way my revision will be more structured as I have to do it then, whereas last year I just tried to do it ‘when I could’, which inevitably never came. By increasing the structure of my revision I am making this into a SMART goal (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-sensitive).
Other goals to set:
However, goals for the new school year don’t have to just be about studying! I also have lots of personal goals that I’m working on, and to keep myself accountable I tell them to my family and write them down on a dedicated page in my bullet journal.
Keeping flexible about your goals:
This next point might seem to contradict the above, however I think it really is important. If you set yourself a goal, but after some time you can see that it’s just not going to work, think about why that is and how you can help yourself to achieve it. Taking some time to reflect on why you haven’t been progressing and what you can do to change that will help immensely!
To summarise: ‘If the plan doesn’t work change the plan but never the goal.’

It’s pretty safe to say that every December since forever you’ve sat down and made a list of things you wanted to accomplish in the new year. It’s also safe to say that every February you’ve abandoned those without much of a second thought. So what’s the secret to keeping up with your good intentions?
set realistic goals
It sounds pretty great to say that you’ll have perfectly toned abs, be fluent in French, and wake up at 6am every single morning by May, but how likely is that to actually happen? Set goals that you know you can accomplish, like resolving to work out for ten minutes a day and keep your Duolingo streak up.
be selective
I’m usually tempted to write a list a mile long of things I want to start doing, but it’s much better to just chose a couple so you can stay focused. Pick the one or two that are most important to you, and then once you have those down you can add more throughout the year.
be specific
So you wanna be healthy, but what does that mean? Instead, say you want to eat the recommended serving of vegetables each day, or drink more water. Be as specific as you can, and make sure to put it into terms of daily action. It’s easy for the year to get away with you, but you can keep tabs on your day.
stay accountable
Tell your best friend, your mom, your grandma, your mailman what you’re trying to do. Put it on your wall. Tattoo it backwards on your forehead please don’t. Do what you have to do to remind yourself everyday what you’ve committed to.
make it interesting
It’s a lot easier to keep up with something you’re excited about. Whether it’s taking yoga classes with your bff to help you get out of bed early, treating yourself to a new planner to stay organized, or promising yourself a delicious dinner from the country of your target language when you can have a conversation, do what you can to make your resolution fun and not a chore.
start now
Starting a habit takes time, so there’s no reason to wait until the 1st! The sooner you can start the better, so that way by the time the new year rolls around you’ve already got a head start.

so this was supposed to have been a thank you for 100 followers, but it’s a bit late haha i’ve been procrastinating. i hope this masterpost will give you a bit of insight into how i study as well giving you ideas for your own planning. i know the title slide is pretty simple and boring but i needed to post this before i procrastinate again, so it’ll just stay like this for now. either way, here’s the masterpost (thanks again everyone!!):
Suggestions for In Class:
Listen to the teacher, even if the lectures are boring. Often my teachers give long, unexciting lectures, but it’s important to know what the teacher thinks is crucial within a textbook reading. Sometimes he or she will even give hints or suggestions about what might be on the test.
Some days we all feel sick of listening to the teacher. In this case, I would suggest 1) taking an audio recording (if allowed) and then listening later or 2) borrowing notes from a friend (but rewrite them for yourself, and then reread the textbook in case)
Take advantage of worktime given to you. (This is probably more applicable to us who are in middle or high school.) If a teacher gives you a period to study, or to work on a project, use it. Just because some other people don’t work doesn’t mean that you can’t get ahead on tonight’s textbook reading, or finish the project that’s due tomorrow.
Make a study plan for a test. If the teacher hands out a syllabus and reads it over, you can make little notes that notate (notes that notate gosh im good at this) the first impressions you have of a topic. Sometimes these impressions can make a huge difference into how you will be studying for a test later.
Out of Class:
For Good Days (starting from when you get home. It targets those of us who go to school during the day and then come back home for the afternoon, but I hope everyone can get something from this):
Eat something quickly and don’t take out your phone or laptop or book or whatever. It’s not good to get distracted this quickly.
Find a study space you’re going to dedicate yourself to. It’s ok to change day by day, but changing locations every hour is not going to settle your study attitude.
Take out your planner. If you don’t have a planner or bullet journal, it might be a good idea to start one (it depends). Mark tasks in their priority and then on how quickly you can get them done. I’d suggest starting with one or two short tasks, then getting to one long one that’s high priority, then doing another couple short tasks, etc.
Between those one or two short tasks and the long task, take a break. If you’ve been using your laptop constantly, walk around a bit, look at some scenery, or stretch. If you’ve been on paper, maybe take out your phone and check social media. Either way, set a timer for 10 minutes so you don’t get dragged away for too long. (note that depending on the workload, 10 minutes may become 5 minutes which may become 1 minute)
Eat your meals. Like seriously. Eat your meals, take your showers, brush your teeth. Personal hygiene is something you want to maintain if you want to feel good about yourself. Forget everyone else.
If you can fit it into your schedule, exercise is also good. I have extracurricular activities that force me to get out and work, but if you tend to stay at home, at the library, or wherever, try to find a time where you can go and walk or run.
When you’ve accomplished something major, check it off. At the end of the day, go back to your planner and make sure you’ve really finished everything. Draw happy faces all over a sheet of scratch paper until happiness is floating in the room. You’ve made it through another day!
For Bad Days (because we all have them):
Come home, take a shower, and eat something nice. Maybe lie on your bed and take a nap for an hour. Listen to music. Whatever works to chill. You deserve some time to yourself.
It’s best if you get something done every day, even if it’s the littlest thing. When I don’t want to dedicate myself to a lengthy essay – so long as it’s not due the next day – I do activities like:
Making flashcards for vocabulary. Short ones. I tend not to like flashcards with lots of text, because then I prefer just writing up notes.
Studying the language that you’re learning (if you’re learning a language, and why not?). Most days I don’t get the chance to dedicatedly review my notes, so just rereading class notes or finding a short story to read in that language can help to keep up with comprehension.
Planning. Like planning my next day, planning my week, planning my month, or planning my year. Whatever it is I feel like planning. Or reorganizing my desk. Sometimes changing the look of things or taking a step back to think about your situation helps calm you down.
Reading a book. Especially if it’s a nonfiction book – but not a textbook – or something along the lines of historical fiction. These will improve your literacy comprehension and help give insight into a specific topic. For example, if I’m studying American History in my history class, I’ll check out fiction books relating to the topic and get a lot of insight into the era.
But most of all, take care of yourself. If you’ve had a bad day at school, something huge has happened to your social life, you’re drowning in a sea of assignments… remember that we’ve all been there. Put your health above everything else. Please. <3
During Transition Times (e.g. on the bus, in the car, waiting in a line, etc.):
Practice those flashcards you made. Carry them in your pocket, everywhere, and when you’re on the bus and think, “if only I had those flashcards,” they’ll be right there.
Listen to a recording of yourself talking about whatever you’re studying. This works especially well if you’re an auditory learner – you can record yourself reading the textbook aloud, so you don’t skip words, and then come back to your recording to understand better.
You can also record reviews or presentations that you will need later to immerse yourself.
Flip through note pages. I don’t do this much, since I get carsick or bus-sick easily, but some people can get through pages and pages of a textbook while on the bus and feel nothing at all. *envy*
Drink a good drink. Like Starbucks. This has nothing to do with studying, but transition times are also great for taking a step back from studies and spending fifteen minutes with yourself and whatever (or whomever!) else you want to spend it with.

you don't have to start your day in the morning. i start at 5 pm sometimes and let me tell you, doing something almost always feels better than doing nothing. it doesn't have to be big or important. it doesn't have to be too much to handle. it's enough to wash your face, or comb out your hair. if you feel tired, it's enough to make a list of things you want to do tomorrow. don't let the clock hold you back. it's a piece of glass and plastic. you get to decide what a day is.
