Sorry for my inactivity. Just got home from vacation & have been generally super busy with work (something that’ll continue for a while...) so I haven’t had time or energy to reply to stuff. I’m gonna try to get some replies done in the coming week tho!

Honestly, Aoba hadn’t expected that he’d ever see Koujaku again. He’d made his peace with that and learned to appreciate what he did have: his grandmother, Ren, Mizuki and a job he enjoyed. Then, one day, Koujaku had just appeared at the house, older, taller and with an array of scars he’d not had as a kid, but still absolutely recognizable. 

Since then, it had been like no time had passed at all. Of course they had both changed, but at the core - Koujaku had still been the boy Aoba had known. He’d been pretty tight-lipped about his time spent on the mainland, but Aoba hadn’t pried. The past was in the past and it wasn’t as though Aoba himself was very keen on going into much detail about what what he’d been up to in the years Koujaku had been gone for. The things he could remember, anyway. 

It had been a slow day at the junk shop when Koujaku came by. Haga-san had left the shop to him and told him to close up when he felt like it if things didn’t pick up, so Koujaku showing up was a welcome distraction from the boredom. 

“Finally, my hero. Where have you been all my life?” Aoba said, mock-dramatically as he got up from behind the counter. 

                     MIDORIJIMA   WAS   STILL   THE   HOME   he once knew, no matter how much time had passed. The streets had not changed nor had the people (a symptom of Platinum Jail’s influence — Old Resident’s District was not worth the upkeep ) but perhaps the most comforting sentiment was that his childhood friend was still nearby. Lazy summer afternoons conjured in his mind, head tilted back and the sun on his skin … yes, Midorijima was still his home.

                    He had since reconnected with Aoba and made a habit of visiting him at work when he wasn’t hairdressing ; whilst they were still getting used to one another again, it felt natural to speak to him again. After everything, Aoba seemed like a single constant. A small smile crossed his marred features at the thought, and he pushed open the door to Junk Shop Heibon — ❛ Did ya miss me? ❜ Cocky as always, Koujaku gave a loose wave.  ❛ Are you nearly done? I wanna grab some lunch. ❜

“Stay.”

“It’s getting crowded. Here, hold my hand.”
