after posting this, i had a couple more thoughts about alpha handling cadets:

+ alpha had to be told repeatedly not to hold cadets by their collars, hold them upside down, etc.

+ a child told him that he was thirsty, and without looking @ him, alpha told him to “drink his spit.”

+ alpha once caught fox with a death stick while in his training program, so he told him to “put it out or he’d shove it up his ass.” fox put it out immediately, and alpha never had to snitch because they both knew he was serious.

+ alpha doesn’t lash out at cadets irrationally, but the one time he almost did, his young, teenage, blonde cadet stopped him. he wasn’t pissed, and his respect for the kid only grew.

+ alpha is prohibited from bathing the toddlers when forced to watch them, for el-les claims he murmured once that “if it splashes me, i’m dunking it.”
