Drag or no?
Rupaul drag queen superstar and owner of rupaul’s drag race comes out; out of drag at the met gala. Do believe Rupaul should have gone to the Met Gala in Drag? or Do you think it was a good choice to come out of drag? I personally believe that whether or not rupaul wanted to go in drag or not it shouldn't have been such a big deal, as it is. Rupaul wanted to go to the met gala as his true authentic self and not play a “character”. Rupaul doesn't care what others think about him, when he does come out in drag he expresses himself through his looks whether that's in drag or not; he always is himself. Through sources they mention how rupaul does not come out in drag unless it involves big bucks, the latest time rupaul has been publicly in drag was 2012 when he performed in the mardi gras in sydney, Australia. Rupaul is a great role model for the LGBTQ community and will always great a comforting environment for those around him, in his show he allows the queens to get second chances and express themselves through their looks. Overall, I believe Rupaul made a great choice in coming out as himself and not having to play a drag character for the met gala.

Twenty One Pilots
I remember 4 years ago when twenty one pilots blew up, everyone loved them for there dark, real music. Throughout the podcast of “catching up with twenty one pilots” they mention the struggles many artists/bands go through before getting noticed by many. 3 interesting facts they mention are Red Hot Chili Peppers career really didn’t start to blossom until their fourth album, R.E.M ad a strong cult following through four records before they were able to cross over into mainstream consciousness and lastly Twenty One Pilots  blew up with the “Blurryface” album in 2015 but before that were six years of really hard slogging when almost no one knew who they were. This leads me to wonder, what did it take for all my favorite artists to blow up, and my question is how does one stay so motivated for so long without getting any attention by fans. In order to keep yourself motivated for such a long period of time you must love what you do and be confident that one day you will make it somewhere. This podcast has opened my eyes that becoming a public figure is difficult and is time consuming, you must be patient and always allow space for yourself to grow. Twenty one pilots took some time before they blew up, but I remember when they did everyone knew about them and loved them for the real life attitude and authentic life issues that are shown throughout there songs, the duo create lyrics/songs that everyone can relate to a bit. Overall, this podcast has made it clear that becoming famous isn't as easy as it seems.

Television bans episode of children's show "Arthur" over gay wedding
Throughout the years, society has changed, love has changed, who we can marry has changed. Alabama banning an episode of the famous arthur” tv show due to an episode having a gay wedding is a rewind in time. Do you think children should be presented with controversial topics such as LGBTQ groups in an early age? I personally believe that as a society we need to move on from gay marriages and accept the changes that are occuring, when will the LGBTQ comunnity get a break from the constant harassment they are always facing. I think it's great to allow kids to be involved with controversial topics because this is the future. Its 2019 and the LGBTQ communtiy will always have issues with the older generations, so why not educate the younger generations. It is known that people hate and discriminate when they don't know. Eduating the younger generation can only allow the LGBTQ community to grow. Opposite sex marriages is constantly a topic presented to children, what is so horrible about same sex marriages being presented to children; this isn't a topic you can run away from, since the LGBTQ community is accepted by many, children will always come across this topic. I believe you should always teach children to accept everyone and spread love and not hate. Another issue that can be occurring is the feeling of being excluded, the LGBTQ community make feel unwanted if they are not involved in the media. Overall, I personally don't understand why there are so many closed minded people, time is constantly moving and we need to accept the changes that are happening for the future.

smarts or wealth ?
Fuller house has dropped Lori Loughlin amid college admissions scandal. Loughlin and her husband as well as 30 & more parents who paid a consultant to make sure their children have a spot in colleges with bribes. Do you think the children of those accused could have gotten in without bribery on their own merit and are the schools involved also to blame? I personally think if the parents felt that they needed to bribe to get their children in the colleges, they must of been not confident in their children's intelligence. Lori’s daughter Olivia Jade, a youtube star; mentions how she doesnt have much care for school, if she could she wouldn't be enrolled. This just goes to show, she is ungrateful for her opportunities to have an education, with all that being said, I don't believe the students could of gotten into the schools without bribery. Is the school to blame? Yes 100%, if the parents are getting hate against bribing the schools, the school should be to blame for allowing bribery to even be an option for admission. Is it fair that students with wealthy families can get into school for their wealth and not for their smarts? Absolutely not, this method is unfair and can cause dangerous long term effects due to the lack of accurate knowledge the students may have. Put it this way; would you rather go to a doctor who earned his degree through his studies, or a doctor who played for his PHD? Lori has used her wealth and power for all the wrong reasons. Overall, I don't believe that the students could of gotten into the schools on their own merit and I genuinely think they needed the bribery for admission, I also believe the schools have a major role in this scandal and are to blame for this unfair situation. Imagine all the students who had the potential to get in the colleges without bribery but couldn't due to wealthy families taking up their spot.

This Cant be Good!
The word is out! Jordyn Woods moves out of kylie Jenner's home and everyone's talking, is this a connection to the Tristan thompson cheating scandal? Or just bestie differences? The real question is Do you think the allegations of Tristan Thompson cheating on his wife, Khloe Kardashian, with her sister’s best friend, Jordyn Woods, is true ? I personally believe that the allegations of Tristan cheating is true and I think Jordyn and Tristan are both to blame. Jordyn explains the whole situation on the show “Red table” and mentions after a party her and friends went to Tristan's home; she felt “safe:” knowing it wasn't a strangers house. Jordyn then mentions the next morning Tristan reaches for a kiss as she was leaving and Jordyn allows this to happen, creating a “homewrecker” outlook on Jordyn. I believe what Jordyn has done is unacceptable due to the relationship between Jordyn and the entire Kardashian family; the Jenners/Kardashians have treated Jordyn as if shes a family member. Khole; wife of Tristan has a child with Trisan, Khloe is shocked as to how Jordyn could do such a thing to her. Kylie has stayed quiet throughout the whole sandal, and I believe it will stay that way; she's being the bigger person and not acting out of anger. Khloe on the other hand as made multiple tweets against Jordyn and putting all the blame on Jordyn. Ultimately, what Jordyn has done won't be forgotten and I personally believe things will never be the same for Khole & Jordyn neither will it be for Kylie & Jordyn.

Culture Jamming
Culture Jamming is the altering of a public advertisement. this is used by many anti-consumerists to put an end to the media lifestyle and the pressured media has on many humans. Culture jammings main purpose is to shed light on the truth behind majority of the advertisements displayed in the city, media plays a huge role on today’s society and for many, media is what many people tend to go to for self approval. Those who do culture jam are portrayed as criminals, when in reality they are just looking out for others and see the truth behind these advertisements; they have noticed that cooperates care more about the money that the advertisement will bring in and care less about society's mental health and how these ads will affect how some look at themselves. I personally, agree with the message and meaning behind culture jamming, but I see why it can be known as a criminal act, since it is technically publicly damaging public property. Although I agree with the message behind culture jamming, my take on it is more of a criminal act than a democratic act. Due to the similar aspects of “ vandalism”, I believe it is a criminal act. Through this media studies course, I have realizes the work and effort that goes into an advertisement, to destroy and change the purpose/meaning of an advertisement is unacceptable. I personally see culture jamming as a notion that is ineffective because no matter what, people will always purchase products, there are millions of advertisements that are displayed all over the world, companies who do advertise worldly are not worried about a couple billboards being destroyed. Overall I believe despite the great meaning behind culture jamming, there are other ways to help society’s mental health and self portrayal, which is why culture jamming is known as a “criminal” act.

That Sugar Film
Throughout all the documentaries we have watched in class, the one that has gotten my attention was “ that sugar film”. The film showed the truth behind all of our favourite soft drinks and “healthy foods” such as mountain dew, lunchables, coca cola and etc. The documentary showed many examples of what are some dangerous side effects of these drinks. A 17 year old boy whose teeth were rotting and decaying due to his pop drink addiction was shown and the film showed the many struggles he faces on a daily basis. I believe this is one of the many important clips because not many know the relevance of these dangerous effects sugar has, as a teenager I can say this generation doesn't have much care for “healthy options” or as well as “ self care” when it comes to what they put into their bodies. The flim mentioned many shocking facts about soft drinks such has mountain dew has 77 g in a small bottle but a liter of mountain dew is 124 g of sugar. Filmmaker Damon Gameau documents alleged “ healthy foods” that have high dose of sugar; he later tested 40 spoons a day for 60 days, what can it do to someone's body? Damon gained much weight and had multiple health issues, he found himself often being lazy, difficult to not have large dosage of sugar daily. This film is important because it shows how easily media can portray their products to seem like a positive necessity. Teenagers are easily manipulated and addicted to “good” tasting items; an item being portrayed as healthy as well as delicious is dangerous due to the thought of having healthy diet, when in reality the product has loads full of sugar. This topic is still an occurring issue today, as well as a world issue, and this film has opened my eyes when it comes to sugary drinks,”healthy” foods, candy and etc. Overall GenZ’s, not everything in the media or what food brands put out is the truth, they only put out what they want you to know!

How I Met Your Mother!
Hello fellow Genz’s, today i'm going to be talking about my all time favorite tv show! How I met your Mother. I’ve rewatched all the seasons about 4-5 times and it never gets old. The show starts off as the father Ted, telling the children the back story about how he met their mother, he mentions all the memories, arguments, breakups, dates, deaths and etc, he had went through that lead up to him finally meeting his wife. Ted mentions their aunt Robin who he was previously in love with, the perfect couple Marshall and Lily and the charming uncle Barney, these 4 characters play a huge role in the show and I personally believe is what makes the show amazing. The groups humor and back story relates to many peoples day to day lives; no matter what arguments and challenges they are faced with, they always find a way back together. I find myself always rewatching this show, no matter what mood your in; happy, stressed, upset, etc this show will always be one of my favourites. I personally think the reason why I love this song so much is because of the humor and storyline; the way the show was recorded shows the past and present which is what I believe keeps me hooked. This show will always stand the test of time because of how long ago i’ve always loved it; from 2015 to 2019 ive rewatched how I met your mother 4-5 times and each time i’ve found more and more reasons to love it. Each time i’ve watched this show it feels like the first time.

Tumblr media
What comes to your mind when looking at these images ? looking at all these ads makes me feel pressured into buying these items; just walking by some of these photos makes you feel like you its a NEED by the way they advertise these products. I believe as a teenager it is very easy to be manipulated or pressured into purchasing all these items. Another huge impact on why teeenagers buy the products they buy is due to the people they surround themselves with, if someone just bought the coolest next big thing, you feel as though you need it as well to fit; nobody wants to be left out.

Social Media Consumption!
Social Media is used in my everyday life and tasks, through social media I am able to connect with friends and family that may life far, I can catch up on my favorite shows and movies as well as let people around me know what i'm up to. I spend 5 hours and 12 minutes a day on my phone, in a week I spend 36 hours and 27 minutes on my phone; the apps that consumes majority of my time are Instagram with 9 hours and 22 minutes, Snapchat with 6 hours and 22 minutes, Messages with 5 hours and 46 minutes and many more. Is it clear that the apps mostly used are communication apps used to interact with others. The apps I use least are pinterest with 4 minutes, VSCO with 5 minutes ,Youtube with 7 minutes. When it comes to music I listen to music quite often; 7 hours and 45 minutes a week, I never listen to web radio but I spend about an hour a week listening to broadcast radio. I spend 0 hours playing video games, web games, creating images, sounds or games, I also spend 0 hours reading fiction, magazines or newspapers. I spend so many hours on my phone that I beleive it takes over my life, since I rarely use any sorts of media other than my phone it really highlights how much cell phones influence the lives of others. I believe that over the years Social Media has had a drastic change from cell phones only being used to communicate such as calling and texting to having the knowledge on just about anything with a click of a button, this has a huge impact on us as humans due to the instant reach of information it creates laziness and lack of face to face communication. Many find it difficult to speak to others when its not behind a screen, I feel that way sometimes; since i'm constantly communicating through my phone, when it comes to speaking to new people or a large group in person I get very anxious.

Who is HopelesslyGenZ?
Before I start with this blog, I think I should explain who I am, what I believe, and what exactly HopelesslyGenZ means to me. So what’s all this about? I’ll tell you. It seems like in this day and age, everyone is constantly trying to blame the younger generations for all the problems in western society because of the way we are. But how can that possibly be the case? We are a byproduct of anything and everything that surrounded us as we grew up, INCLUDING the rise of technology.
The negative connotations which surround millennials and Gen Z’s in regards to media and technology consumption is OVERRATED. That’s why I’ve decided to take back who I want to be known as. So yes, I am a Gen Z, 17 year old girl. Just to clarify what that means: I’m a smart, tech-savvy, media-obsessed, phone-always-in-hand, overanalyzing, environmentally-inclined 17 year old girl. Hi, I’m Angelina, nice to meet you :)
