Alice appreciated the silent sense of acknowledgement between them, knowing there was some unspoken solidarity. At least for her, she looked after those of her kind. “Oh, I was thinking about it -” She admits sheepishly with a small chuckle. “But then I thought it’d be rather sad if I went on one alone. I feel like humans always go in small groups or pairs.” Alice smiled then, nodding towards the baby in the other angel’s arms. “You have such adorable company, though.”

Part of Shiloh wanted to just agree with Alice and get on the ride — they’d always been a solitary creature — but times were changing. Who knows how long they’d stay in Friday Harbour? They needed someone. And besides, it wouldn’t hurt to have some extra eyes on Esther. “You’re welcome to join us.” They nodded and stepped toward the ferris wheel, not looking back to see if she’d follow.

“I’m sure you could, and it could be another nice memory to look back to for her,” Abby nodded to the little girl, smiling gently. “If you need a hand to hold, I’m free for the next half hour or so,” she teased when she noted they didn’t move any closer and were still looking quite skeptical.
Tumblr media
Shiloh really wasn’t sure how much babies could look back on memories. Did they remember things well? Did they even want to look back on good experiences? There was still so much they didn’t know. Bristling at the mention of holding hands, the angel half-glared at Abby. “If you really have nothing better to do, I wouldn’t mind an extra eye on her.”

She had wandered over to the fair and been staring at the ferris wheel, contemplating whether or not she wanted to ride it herself. Mostly because she thought it’d be weird for people to see a twenty something riding alone. Nevermind her actual age. But when she heard another person asking a question, she turned her attention in the direction she heard it from. “Well, I’m sure if you’re holding her the entire time it’ll be fine.” Looking back to the ferris wheel, she shielded her eyes from the sun as she looked up. “I don’t think they’d let anyone on if it wasn’t safe for even a baby. It’s not that big either.”
Tumblr media
Shiloh had definitely seen much, much bigger rides. They supposed the woman was right; if they held tightly to Esther, she would be fine. They turned and offered a rare smile, recognizing that she was like them — an angel, hiding, keeping secrets. “You’re right; I don’t think they’d make a ride that’s not safe for children.” Shiloh took a step toward the ferris wheel, then looked back at the woman. “Were you going to ride it?”

“I wouldn’t recommend it,” Bailee said peering up at the contraption. “I’ve heard horror stories about small people falling out between the bars. It’s just as dangerous as a roller coaster even if it looks nice and innocent.” Probably not what the other wanted to hear but she wasn’t too great at conversation to begin with. “I think the merry go round is a much safer option. Sorry little one.” She looked down to the small creature on his hip and smiled slightly. Children were one of her favorite things in the world and she wiggled her finger at the child before looking up at Shiloh. “Sorry to be so morbid about the danger aspects.”
Tumblr media
At the mention of small people falling between bars, Shiloh clutched their daughter even tighter (causing her to wiggle in protest). They were so not used to dealing with small, fragile creatures. It had been a long time since they were in charge of the safety of someone other than themself. “No, I’m glad you told me. I’d rather know than put her at risk.” Esther smiled and reached out to grab the fairie’s finger, her tiny arms not even close enough to grasp it.

“Well, they’re doing a much better job nowadays when it comes to the safety of it all. And ferris wheels aren’t known for their crazy loopings, so yes I think it should be safe for a nine month old as long as you hold on to the little one,” Abby offered from behind them, smiling and giving a small wave to the child. “I think the bigger question would be if it’s safe for your nerves, what with the height and the whole ‘holding on to the child’ deal,” she raised one eyebrow looking up at them.
Tumblr media
“It’s definitely safer than some rides I’ve seen,” Shiloh admitted turning around to face the vampire. Esther pressed her face against her parent’s chest before offering a shy smile in response to the wave. “And it’s not that high,” they agreed. “I could handle it.” But they didn’t move any closer. Crowds were not their forte.

( BOOBOO STEWART ) — It looks like SHILOH FARRIS has just taken refuge in Wendigo Forest. THEY are UNKNOWN years old, and work at LEFTBRAIN CREATIONS as a CLERK/ARTIST. More interesting than that, however, is the fact that they’re an ANGEL, and they fall into the NEUTRAL.
Time is a funny thing. Age, too. Shiloh doesn’t remember how long they’ve existed, or how long they’ve been on earth, but they know the time passes easier when they aren’t attatched to mortals. They simply help and inspire those they can before vanishing. There’s only been one person who broke through their defenses. And she was beautiful.
The two of them kept their relationship secret until she discovered she was pregnant. Fearing what her extreme right parents would do when they discovered she was bearing an angel’s child, she blamed it on a one night stand and pretended to put the child up for adoption. Instead, she gave the little girl to Shiloh.
Knowing that they need a safe place to raise a nephillim child, they moved to Wendigo Forest. Shiloh tries to keep a brave face for their Esther, but they’re struggling to adjust to this new life — staying in one place, being expected to form connections, worrying about the safety of someone other than themself. Maybe one day this forest will feel comfortable, but not today.

For someone who’d been alive for so long, you’d think they’d have better experience with children. But there Shiloh stood, Esther balanced on their hip, staring up at the small ferris wheel that had been erected for the festival. “Is that...safe for a nine month old?” they asked no one in particular. They weren’t even sure if she’d enjoyed it, but if it wasn’t safe for babies, they sure as hell weren’t letting their daughter anywhere near it.

Quiet magic filled every crevice of this little shop. It reminded Shiloh of the Middle Ages, of potions and sunny witch’s huts and herbs hanging from the rafters. They were, of course, happy to wander the aisles silently, but they looked up at the sound of a voice.
“Oh?” Sleep sounded wonderful just then. “Does it work on babies too?” They asked, shifting the tiny sleeping girl cradled against their chest. “She’s been having a hard time these past few nights.”
The apothecary was like a hazy dream–incense burning on their stands, the soft tinkle of bells every time the door opened, Bernard the fat shop cat sunning himself lazily on the window sill. Coming here felt as though Abel was just waking up, sleep still clinging to his eyelashes in promise of more rest. It was a home he never thought would become a home, a place of solace where he could bury himself in his work or studies.
It was…relaxing, a feel he was still trying to understand. A feeling he was still trying to get used to.
“Oh…” Noticing the wandering body in the shop ( how long have they been here? He’d feel guilty if it was more than a few minutes ), Abel placed the mortar and pestle down onto the counter, breathing in the sharp scent of basil. Fingers then curled into the sleeve of his cardigan nervously before stepping out into the open, tilting his head to get a better look at what they were observing. “Lavender and Sandalwood.” He nodded towards the oil mixture in front of them. “They’re good, if you’re looking for something to help you sleep.”
