With barely any time on her hands, Emily felt like she was going back on her progress that she had made on the drugs and firearms case but in fact, their dealer had just gotten bigger and he was escalating to killing as well but they had arrested a man who had been in contact with the head man, informing them that he was in fact headed to Washington, in fact they all were. Thus the reasoning Emily found herself on the Interpol jet to Washington, not before making a call first.
Upon hearing the woman pick up, Emily cleared her throat âSpecial Agent Keates, this is Chief Emily Prentiss with Interpol, do you have a moment please.?â
She didnât get calls from Interpol often. Or, rather, perhaps it should have been that she hadnât received a call in quite some time. But, of course, her undercover work hadnât permitted any other work outside of what sheâd immersed herself in. Brushing aside her musings, she reached for a pen and straightened a little in her seat.
âHow can I help you, Chief Prentiss?â

âOh god, that sounds amazing.â Ellie laughed and looked at Zoe with bright eyes. She loved spending time with her friends, and Zoe was no exception. âGod, but everything looks so good on the menu.â
âWell, you know thereâs an easy way to solve that problem,â Zoe said, sounding very serious. âWe get several different things and try them.â It was common practice with her and her ATF team to do just that. Never mind the fact that at the moment it was just Ellie and her. They were there to have fun.

It was the third time in less than a month sheâd packed her bags and headed down to the Big Easy. Zoe had to admit, the oppressing humidity aside, she loved the city. For now, at least, things were quiet. Sheâd finished up with ATF earlier that morning, giving her a bit of time to visit with the NCIS agents sheâd been working with during her travels.
âIf I keep having to travel back and forth, Iâm going to have to rent myself an apartment.â She was getting tired of living out of her suitcase in a hotel room. But, what could you do?

âYouâre missing out if you donât try the loaded cheese fries,â Zoe told her. Even she wasnât immune to that temptation. And, if Zoe did say so herself, every bite was worth the butt busting workout that had to follow the indulgence the next day.

As of late, it seemed like her phone hadnât stopped ringing. Her office phone, her cell phone, even her home phone had been in a constant overdrive for the better part of a month. The constant contact felt almost foreign. But, Zoe supposed it was because she hadnât re-acclimated to her normal routine again. Six months undercover had cut her off from the majority of her normal colleagues and friends. She had to get used to things again. Thatâs what she tried to tell herself. Reaching for her office phone, she grabbed the receiver and brought it to her ear. âSpecial Agent Keates.â

⊠Sorry.
And maybe my father is lying. That is what he does.
Are you an idiot?
Are you blaming me?
Are you the type whoâs grumpy when you get woken up?
Come on. Look at me. Look at me!
Coulda hung a sock on the door.
Do you know what a golem is?
Donât stand there an admire your work.
Everyone has questions for you.
Fancy a smoke?
Go back to the boat, or you are a dead man.
Hey. Thatâs my Danish. What is your problem, man?
How can you not see that you are disposable? Hm? How can you not know that?
I canât believe that happened again.
I canât believe that happened.
I donât care if they were us, before we were us.
I gotta be me.
I guess secret goes out the window when itâs evidence in a murder.
I need a target, I told him. Before there is nothing left of me.
I never knew his name.
I saw you seeing me.
I work in marble like Michelangelo.
If I leave, you die.
Iâm saving my royalties to buy a pack of gum.
Last of the Mohicans is en route.
Look at the distance between the blood drops. He was walking.
Meaning this would NOT have happened there? Because there is never any violence in Israel.
My life was a lie.
My wife can no longer live with what I do. She took my family, my children, to ensure that they do not grow up to be like their father.
Oh, I think I know exactly what kind of man you are.
One moment of weakness does not define oneâs character.
People heard the blast, but nobody saw anything.
Rule Number 9⊠Never go anywhere without a knife.
She erased the entire word.
So what wakes an Israeli up in the morning?
Someone is going to pay for this.
Sometimes life surprises you.
Stop and smell the tulips. Visit the Heineken brewery. Go see Anne Frankâs house. Not in that order.
Tell me. Who would cry for you if this blasting cap should accidentally⊠blow up and turn us to smears on the wall?
The Reds just want us to think the Cold Warâs over.
There have been times I felt this job take a piece of me⊠And I worry they may be gone forever.
Wanna try a different angle here? Maybe tell me what Iâm being accused of?
When your whole country could be wiped away any day, you donât take tomorrow for granted.
While I was sleeping, I had what they call a moment of clarity.
Who will cry for you?
Why did you not trust me?
Why do you assume he was kidnapped?
You can cut out the Agent 13 bit.
You can follow me around, you can bat your eyes at me, you can chuck me on the chin if youâd like. I donât know who taught you thatâs how you get a man. Itâs not gonna get you me.
You chose me because you knew nobody would miss me when I got killed.
You do not answer for me.
You donât know who else might hear.
You have no idea what it was like in that dingy little room.
You know, when a suspect prefaces what heâs about to say with âlookâ, âhereâ, or 'soâ it usually means he feels boxed into a corner.

âIâm fine.â The words were short and half bitten off, the woman attempting to ignore how her side felt like it was on fire. Even now, she had the tendency to bite off more than she could chew sometimes. Her palm pressed to her side, not thinking about how the cloth of her shirt was sticking to her skin or the flare of pain that raced out in her at the pressure of her palm. âWhat about you? You okay?â

Running on a couple hours sleep and triple shot lattes, Zoe found herself dragging her feet up the steps of her townhouse. It had been a long forty-eight hours and all she wanted to do was fall into bed. She sighed audibly at the sight of someone perched just outside her door as she cleared the fourth step. People had no concept of time anymore.
âThis canât wait until a normal hour?â

âOne of the great mysteries of the workplace,â she said. At the comment, she seemed to perk up a little. Her current case had been running her into dead ends for almost a week. âWhatâve you got?â
âI donât get how heâs an agent, to be honest.â Â She shrugged, a deep breath escaping her. Â âOh, by the way, I was looking for you. Â Got a tip this morning, you just might be interested in. Â Itâs for your case.â

âRight, I can tell youâre really torn up about it,â Zoe hummed. She moved to cross her arms over her chest and gave a little wince. That scratch, as sheâd called it, had a little more bite to it than sheâd originally thought.
âIâm hurt,â he exclaimed in response, clutching   his heart as if he was mortally wounded. For   someone who seemed to be insulted, however,   there was a hint of a smile on his face at Zoeâs retort.Â
