'Lived long enough to become the villain'

Leave ‘Lived long enough to become the villain’ to get a glimpse of my muse being a villain.

In school, Neal had learned about HYDRA. He learned about how they worked, how they operated, why they did what they did. They were the villains. They were the bad guys. Steve Rogers had fought not only for freedom, but to stop HYDRA. They disgusted Neal. He was just glad he never had to worry about them.

But then they came back.

They had taken over SHIELD, and forced him to return to the life that he had loathed so much before becoming an agent. They had forced him into distrust of everyone he knew, of everyone he had once considered an ally or a friend. Any SHIELD agent he had ever met could’ve been HYDRA. Every leader, every tech, every pilot; none of them were to be trusted. SHIELD was in ruins, and some people still foolishly fought for it to rise again. But Neal knew better. He knew that HYDRA would just come back with it, its two heads growing back like they always did. And he realized, the more he researched, that no former worker for SHIELD was willing to do what was necessary.

And so he did it alone, equipped only with his Level 4 training and a hand gun he had salvaged from the wreckage of the SHIELD base he had been stationed at when everything went down in flames.

One by one, Neal killed them.

One SHIELD agent at a time, one threat after another. There was no proof that they weren’t HYDRA. Nothing they said could make him believe them, and no words, no begging could stop him from doing what had to be done.
