What happens in Greek universities now?

Greek government passes bill allowing police onto campuses for first time since the 1982 Dictatorship.

The new law indicates that police is responsible for the surveillance of the universities, allowing the arrest of any student considered a ‘troubler maker’ from the police. Furthermore, any student arrested for ANY reason in ANY place is in danger of being erased and kicked out of his university studies, so basically to be deprived of education and his rights.

Students across the Country demonstrated against this new law. Yesterday, police forced itself in the campus, used chemicals and beat up students, teachers and pedestrians, followed by 31 brutal arrests of students.

Former Athens Polytechnic Dean Nikos Markatos said, ‘We saw police riding their motorcycles towards protesters. They were beating a kid on the head with a fire extinguisher. My son is at the Red Cross Hospital with a broken shoulder and will be wearing a brace for three weeks. A total of four kids were taken to the Red Cross Hospital following the police violence.’

Today, there was a demonstration outside the court to support the arrested students. As you can see in the photo, one of the students exits the court brutally beaten up and deprived of any health right. In the other photo, there is a elder college teacher trying to help her student. The police sprayed a ton of chemicals on her.
