Impostor Syndrome
(also known as impostor phenomenon or fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a concept describing high-achieving individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud"
I never tried out for sports, when I wanted you. I never joined organizations, when I wanted to. I was in band but I was super content on being in the back. *Bring out the tiny violin*
Photography is in that same boat but something is different. This short photography journey has been the most rewarding but also the most nerve racking! In school, I never put myself out there to fail.  And with photography it is easy to fail. Especially since I am a student of YouTube University. I don't have OFFICIAL training. And as a new photographer, it is stressful to be the SOLE proprietor of someone’s family photo, professional headshots, organization photos, and LIFELONG MEMORIES!!
I knew I had to work hard and practice. All of the time!! My daughter has learned to love the camera and has even began taking pictures herself!! AfroCurl Toddler Photography is coming soon!! J/K.
Below you can clearly see that she WAS NOT feeling that Mami had a new hobby.
I have found one of many tools to combat my personal Impostor Syndrome. I learned to be honest!! And not in that "I am my biggest critic" honest, but to be honest with everyone! And that is hard! AS HELL! I have to tell myself to slow down and take time to learn. I have told CLIENTS that somethings are out of my abilities, and that SUCKS!!
I feel that this keeps me in my lane and gives me TIME to grow and create the vision I have for AfroCurl Photography! I am not here to crash and burn in a rapid blaze of glory. I am here for the long haul!

Welcome!?!
I never imagined that I would have a blog. I doubt anyone will read this [if you are reading this… OMG HEY!]. I do not plan to make these blog post super long but I hope to give some insight into my journey to AfroCurl Photography.
Birth of AfroCurl! My hair is a large part of my identity. First I was AfroMexiCurls, and we had a great run on Twitter until I was hacked and I was never able to use that handle again. So my handle was shortened! And BAM…
AfroCurls! This is who I am and it has become my profession.
Birth of AfroCurl Photography! I have always loved photography but I had one issue. I grew up poor. Super poor. My family finally made over 30k when I was in undergrad. My Mami just got a job getting paid $16/hour and we SO HYPE FOR HER!  So buying a fancy camera was not a part of the budget. For years I have held on to this passion without any training and without owning a real camera.
[Insert amazing husband]
Christmas 2014, my husband bought me a camera! A Nikon D3300 or as I call her, Ms. Shirley!  She is divine! From that moment you couldn’t tell me NOTHING! I am a proud attendee of YouTube University and my family has played the role of practice models. I have amazing friends that support the glow up and allowed me to capture some of the most beautiful moments for them.
So in short, I am here to stay [I bought the domain so I kinda have to show out], I am nervous, I am shy, and I am ready to learn as much as possible!
