“Depends on your definition of serious,” Steve replied. “I mostly wanted to find out if you’d all be open to collaboration. It’s been a long time since the heroes of the world could work together, and I’d like to change that,” he said, offering a small smile.
He stopped when Johnny did, not surprised by the reaction. “I see,” he said, nodding. He mulled it over for a moment. “I don’t think you should feel ashamed of that. Or apologize for it,” he said, smiling again. “You did what you needed to do, to keep doing what you loved. There’s a strength in that.”
\\
“It would be an honor to be part of a collaboration. I think it would be cool if the Avengers and Fantastic Four teamed up.” Johnny always does like getting to work with other heroes, maybe just due to the fact he is so young. He was thirteen when getting his powers after all.
The blonde doesn’t know what to expect out of his confession but the smile is reassuring. He smiles too and feels relief. “You’re so understanding which I appreciate, thank you.” He feels less worry now as they talk, besides there was a chance to do some good alongside each other. “I just wanted to keep racing cars and didn’t think beyond that but I should have. I can make up for it now and I meant it when I said that I would love to team up. You’ll have the Human Torch on your side.”

“I spoke to Sue a little already,” Steve explained. “But I thought I would get a pulse on how the rest of the team felt too.” If he had the time, he would also seek out Reed and Ben, but truthfully, Johnny had been his biggest question mark.
“Sure,” he said easily, following Johnny’s lead. “I was a little surprised,” he said, as they strode along. “To see your name on the Registered list. It didn’t seem to suit you, exactly.”
\\
Johnny could be spontaneous which is what led to his registration and feels embarrassed looking back on it. “It must be serious if you talked to my sister about it. What exactly are you going to ask me, Captain? The Fantastic Four stick together so if Sue is open to whatever it is ... then I’ll be there.” He flashes a smile before answering the part about why he was on that list.
He sighs as he stops in the lobby of the building, his fingers pushing through his blonde hair. “It doesn’t suit me, the whole registered thing. I don’t support it at all but I was told from some people that if I wanted to keep auto racing they wanted me to register. Something about my sponsors would have dumped me. I was young and freaked out so I signed. I regret it everyday but I can’t reverse what I’ve done.” The blonde just looks at his feet in shame. “That was my only reason for doing it. I’m sorry, if I could take it back ... I would.”

There was a heat that came with Miguel’s anger. It was hot and, some days, it was the only thing keeping him warm. Dana used to warn him that it’d burn him up and leave him with nothing but ashes, and Gabri warned him once that fires never stopped at scalding only the person who’d set them, but Miguel had never been particularly good at listening to either. His anger was boiling and it was dangerous and it was his, and for so long it had been the only thing that was. The rest of him had always belonged to someone else, to George O’Hara or to Tyler Stone or to Alchemax, but his anger? Miguel’s anger was his and his alone. Later, he might feel guilty that Johnny had to bear witness to it, might be upset with himself for subjecting the terrified woman glued to her seat to more rage than she’d come in with, but for the moment Miguel was warm and that was all he could focus on.
The man flew backwards and there was some euphoria in hearing him hit the ground. Miguel’s smile was sharp, almost wide enough to flash the fangs in his mouth. It was only old habits that prevented their exposure, in the end. The man stood back up and Johnny was trying to talk him down, trying to be reasonable, but neither Miguel nor the man were interested in hearing it.
“You’re goddamn right it’s between me and you,” Miguel snapped back, glancing over to make sure Johnny was all right after the near miss. The fist hadn’t connected and the man stumbled forward, giving Miguel an opening to aim his own punch towards the stranger’s face. His knuckles stung as they made contact, and Miguel’s heart pounded in his chest. “You wanna hit me? You hit me, you piece of shit.”
\\
Johnny isn’t a stranger to fighting — but it usually doesn’t involve civilians in a setting like this. He has fought aliens and mole man more times than he could count. Their foes always on the more cosmic side, even thinking about his entanglements with the Silver Surfer in his travels. He doesn’t have time to dwell on this thought — just wishing that he could talk down the two men from fighting. This was something the rest of his family is better at but Johnny realizes now that there is much left to learn. Maybe after this he’ll try working on it and realizes being charming won’t save him from all situations.
Some of the other people in the room were standing around staring while a few people are slowly moving out of the entrance to get away from the commotion. Johnny should have let the stranger punch him, maybe it would have been enough of a distraction or make everything worse? He wishes in a moment like this to be smarter and perceive what more outcomes would be before making a decision.
“I’ll hit you alright!” The man stumbles back as the fist makes contact to his face — only to step forward and try getting a hit of his own in. Which Johnny knows is foolish to try and do. Things will only get more violent from here and the blonde is trying to think about ways that could try deescalating the situation. He needed to think quickly about this. “Guys, come on!”

“See? You had to see it. I had to experience it.” Even to this day, during interviews, sometimes it still came up if that was an occurrence that would happen again. The last person who asked that had their camera ‘popped’ by a force field. It seemed some people couldn’t see beyond that. “It doesn’t matter anymore anyway.” For Sue, as her powers grew, she learned to turn other things on herself invisible or partially and other people and objects. “No. It is fine but sometimes I just wished things were a little more normal.”
\\
Johnny pouts for a moment but can’t argue with his sister’s words. He knows she doesn’t like questions about it when they do interviews. Although reporters do tend to ask their invasive questions without thinking about how it would make his family feel. Johnny is more oblivious to such situations which leads him to getting into trouble. “You know just because it happened a while ago doesn’t mean you can’t still be upset by it.” Johnny has his struggles with traumatic events from his younger years. Now wasn’t the time to dwell on that one memory. “I know. Maybe we should get some wigs and go on vacation for a weekend. What do you think?”

Sue shook her head. “Oh really? Well, you wasn’t the one nearly caught naked the first couple of times when we didn’t have costumes.” Sue huffed. When they first had their powers, Sue’s powers proved to be very complex. She could turn invisible but not her own clothes unless it was her costume, causing her to strip naked. Still inexperienced at the time, she would sometimes reappear while undressing, causing into some tabloid attention which she really didn’t enjoy. “You lost a bagel. I use to lose my dignity. I’m sure some people still don’t get that I can turn invisible now, no matter what. No stripping.” She glanced around to make sure no one had caught a glance of either of them going into hiding. “I’m old enough to not have to turn invisible and hide in an alley.”
\\
“Ew! Please don’t bring that up, I don’t want that thought in my head.” Johnny makes a disgusted face at the memory of the time when they all were adjusting to their powers. “I’m thankful we all have uniforms and clothes made for us now.” He at least had shoes and other civilian outfits made so he doesn’t burn off everything. He continues to focus on spending time with his sister. It might be a miracle nobody followed them here, a true rare moment. “I’m sorry, okay? I was just really hungry. Do you want me to go burn a hole in their shoes for you?”

Now the tides had changed, Sue still felt they had to protect others as much as possible. However, what she didn’t expect was the sort of sensation it would become. Even walking down the street, she would get people start to harass her. Even now, after getting her morning coffee, she stopped and looked at one of the morning papers before she could already hear people muttering until someone called her name out. Sue pretended to not hear but it seemed people already started to gather. “I thought I was over doing this.” She muttered as she began to run and seemingly faded from site. Appearing as she turned a corner, Sue huffed. “I’m getting way to old for this.”
\\
Johnny has been the one who embraced the fame that was attached to his family after their accident. He was also a little boy and what child didn’t want superpowers? He felt like it was the best thing to ever happen to him and this doesn’t get old. He descends, flames starting to uncover from around his body as he stops in front of his older sister. “I think it’s still exciting being recognized.” The blonde admits while placing his hands on his hips. “I just wish they wouldn’t bother us when we’re trying to eat though. I didn’t even get to eat my bagel!” He pouts for a moment before shrugging it off. “You’re not old, sis! Reed is the old one.”

Growing up, George O’Hara had been a looming figure in Miguel’s life in more ways than one. He’d been more afraid of him than he would ever care to admit, been so terrified that all Tyler Stone had to do to get him to comply with the rules of Alchemax’s boarding school was threaten to tell George if he didn’t. Even as he got older, even when his mother left his father and he and Gabri were safe from him forever, George was a threat Miguel didn’t know how to escape. He became a different kind of threat after the physical anger was over, of course. Miguel remembered standing over his mother’s hospital bed, Gabri begging him to just talk to his mom, insisting that she wanted him there even when they’d both known it wasn’t true.
She always hated me because I remind her of dad. Shock, I hate me because I remind me of dad.
Maybe his statement had been off in terms of his mother, maybe she had always resented him because of Tyler Stone instead of George O’Hara, but to Miguel? The second part of that statement was an undeniable truth. In moments like this, when he was so angry he could barely breathe, he reminded himself so much of George O’Hara that it hurt. And he didn’t know how not to hate himself for that.
“He’s a piece of shit is what happened,” Miguel growled, jaw clenched tightly. He was careful not to open his mouth too wide, careful not to expose the fangs hiding behind his lips, and his hands were clenched into fists tightly enough to keep his talons out of sight too. Miguel was always Spider-Man, even in the moments he didn’t want to be, but Spider-Man wasn’t the one picking this fight. When it came to things like this, his mind was a time machine. It took him back to a scared kid hiding in the kitchen as screaming filled the house, pulling his little brother close and trying to shield him from the worst of it.
The man was in his face, and Miguel’s eyes were burning behind his glasses. “Yeah,” he replied, “I do have something to say! You’re an ass.” He shoved the man hard enough to catapult him over the table — something not impossible without superstrength, but certainly enough to raise a few eyebrows.
\\
Johnny had been curious as to what he missed, maybe it had been subtle enough that if you weren’t paying close enough attention that would mean not catching on to what it all meant. He believes in Miguel having a reason for being upset so the blonde is going to try being on his side. “Oh okay —“ His words cut off after seeing the guy approaching Miguel looking for a fight maybe? He has the look in his eye and it wasn’t the first time Johnny has found himself in a scrimmage at some bar. Altercations can happen anywhere so he just gets prepared to be thrown out of here and maybe for some fists to start flying. “Man, you need to take a step back.” The blonde says this to the stranger, moving to stand next to Miguel but everything else seems to happen so fast after this.
The man is shoved by Miguel over the table, watching as he lands on the floor with a loud ‘thud’ and they would surely have all eyes on them now. Johnny doesn’t turn to look at them though, focusing on what was happening now ... but the guy is standing up and seems more angry now. “Maybe we can talk about this? You really upset my friend here and —“
“Shut up, pretty boy! This is between me and him!” There’s a fist flying his way but Johnny is agile enough to dodge it and the guy stumbles into another table. He just exchanges a look with Miguel for a moment before focusing on what this guy would try to do next. The woman this stranger was on a date with seems to have slipped out of the way. “This keeps getting interesting ...”

“It’s just all crazy at the moment. People I’ve known my entire life barely know me, those who do know this other version of me.” The Young Avengers didn’t even seem to exist here, though Cassie was yet to look into if her friends themselves did. She laughed and shook her head. “There’s no question,” she replied. “You’ve been stuck with me since I was a kid in my universe. It’s too late.”
“I can’t begin to understand what that must feel like but just know you’ll always have a place here with us. We have plenty of spare rooms if you ever want to stay over.” His family at least know how fast life can change in an instant. He places a hand on Cassie’s shoulder. “Listen to me, all anyone should expect is for you to be yourself. You don’t have to live up to what the other Cassie was like because you’re amazing on your own and I’ve only just met you. I’m here to support you as you reach out to the people you knew. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I think it’s okay not to have everything figured out yet but you have support. You have me.” He gives her shoulder a gentle squeeze before pulling his hand back. “Always stuck together, you and me.”

It still felt a little strange. Standing in his uniform in broad daylight. The shield strapped securely to his back, a familiar weight he hadn’t realized he missed so much until it returned. Until it was given back. “All right, old friend,” he murmured, reaching up to touch the edge of the shield. “Let’s get started.”
He walked up to the impressive building across the street. There was a fence around the outside, with an intercom system. Steve stared at it for a moment, brows furrowed. He was just about to ask FRIDAY for a quick tutorial (or more likely, to just connect to it), but then he saw a figure approaching. Steve turned to them, nodding once. “Just the man I was hoping to see,” he said, offering a hand out. “I was hoping we could talk about some of these changes that are happening.”
\\
There have been so many different changes happening recently and Johnny has adjusted to them all best as any of them could. He can’t deny how good it feels not to worry about using his powers in public. While the blonde had been registered he didn’t support them in the slightest. He worried about getting in trouble anyway for misusing his abilities but maybe there was more freedom. He missed soaring through the sky so today is no different. Johnny slipped on the familiar inform and went out to burn some flames.
It was time to head back home though, landing on his feet a block away from the Baxter Building. He doesn’t get to the door though since someone is standing there waiting to see him it looks like. This is quite a surprise but upon stepping closer realizes it’s Captain America. What could he want to discuss with him? “You were looking for me?” Johnny points to himself still a little surprised and maybe a bit honored. “I’d love to talk to you. Do you want to come in?” He gestured to the tall building.

“Are you sure? Because I died and then came back in another dimension so I think this is on Galactus levels right about now.” Cassie couldn’t believe it really. This world was similar enough that she kept feeling like everything was normal until suddenly something was just different enough to bring it all crashing back down. “I don’t even know what happened with Scarlet Witch, and Wiccan trying to defend her, and…” She sighed. “If you could age like eight years real quick?” she joked.
“Alright ... you might be onto something. It’s starting to sound Galactus level.” There isn’t much that ever reaches that high but being resurrected into another dimension would be enough to make anyone’s head spin. All Johnny could do is try and provide some support for Cassie during this time. This is strange for both of them but he can’t begin to imagine what it feels like for her. “I think that’s one thing I’m unable to do. You’re stuck with young me.” He says playfully and hopes that tone comes across right. “I hope despite that you can see me as a friend.”

CLOSED STARTER | Still accepting from here
29. — preparation / johnny - @aflamc
— “I’m probably the last guy you want to help you in preparation for this.” Kaine mentioned to Johnny. He had no clue of anything that came to most things. Maybe it had to do with his memories coming from Peter or the fact he was a clone and was technically only a few years old. Still though he had grumbling agreed to do what he can to help mostly out of trying his best to become a good guy, though he knew it was going to be a long path. “Should have asked Peter or Ben, they both have all the patience while I have none of it.” he admitted.
“You have no patience? Come on, I know this isn’t fun for most people but I’m just asking for a few minutes of your time.” Johnny has grease marks on his safe but they can be easily changed if he were to flame on — burning off any grime on his body. The blonde doesn’t focus on that right now and looks over at the project that was being worked on. It could wait until later maybe. Johnny might be the only one who finds cars genuinely interesting. “Alright then what do you want to do instead? What’s your idea of fun?”

@aflamc said: “Did you just laugh at me?”
Cassie couldn’t help the laughter. Maybe it was that Johnny had been her first childhood crush and so interacting with him was always a bit strange. Or maybe it was that this Johnny seemed to be only a couple years older than her. Today had been weird enough, and she’d finally lost it. Maybe this whole thing was some strange dream before she woke up. “Sorry, sorry. I just… This is so weird.”
This is probably strange for both of them but it was strange to imagine a version of himself existing out there who is much older. All they can do is make the best out of this since they’re here and maybe Johnny missed Cassie. He really did and the man remembers that there have been weirder experiences in his life. He had been a thirteen-year-old astronaut that skipped school to go to space once. “It can’t be any weirder than seeing Galactus try to eat a planet when you’re traveling through the cosmos like it’s a cheeseburger. I think this should be kind of normal on the cosmic scale of things. How do I make this feel less weird for you?”

Felicia shook her head at Johnny’s denial. “No, you are a total nerd. Reputation comes from the company you keep.” She believed that much was true. “You keep the company of nerds and I don’t keep the company of…well anyone.” The best thieves, despite how flashy she was, like a shadow. There but just out of reach. Never truly in your grasp. She knew how to rock a boat but also how to not draw attention to herself when need be. To be able to control almost who saw her and how they saw her in the moment and always keep them guessing.
“Exactly. I may not be some super genius but I have my own version of smarts too, y’know?” She took his chin between her fingers and squeezed his lips together in a playful manner. She let go as he spoke about making enemies of his own. “Well, you have a family to protect you and everything at your finger tips. Some of us aren’t that lucky.” She had amassed her own wealth but somethings were taken from her that material possessions couldn’t replace. However, she would damn sure try to. “Take a little advice from someone who walks on the wild side; cut them lose.” She told him. “For your sake and theirs. That way you are really bulletproof.” She trailed off as she looked him up and down for a moment.
\\
Maybe Johnny is easy to read and even Felicia could tell that deep down he was a nerd too. He went on his own scientific rantings if you allowed him to, but when you’re part of a team of scientific explorers for over ten years now that eventually rubs off on you. This also is to say that Johnny is still clueless about a lot of things but that’s what learning is all about. “Alright, maybe a little bit of a nerd because once I start talking about mechanics I won’t stop.” Which he doesn’t even start to get on that thought before letting it slip away and focus on the next part of their conversation.
“I don’t think anyone has to be a super genius like Reed to be smart. Everyone is smart in their own way — like you’re an expert in things I could never be.” Johnny likes to believe everyone has the potential to be great and excels in different areas. He doesn’t flinch as Felicia is grabbing his chin between her fingers, just wondering what the purpose was behind squeezing his face in such a way. It wasn’t always like that, once only his older sister and himself left to look after each other. Their lives could have ended up much different if their parents had been around. No point in dwelling. “I like to think my family and friends make me stronger at the end of the day. I don’t envision myself ever cutting anyone loose, Felicia. I’m too much of a people person.”

wyattwingfoot:
It was only now that Johnny was in front of him that Wyatt could truly feel how worried he’d been. It was one thing to know your friend was a superhero, and believe in him - it was another to come to terms with how constantly they were in danger. Johnny was the flashier kind of hero, not one who skulked in the shadows, or had ever hidden behind a mask. That made him easy to find - but also easy to target. It was with a relieved sigh that Wyatt said, “You’re hard to miss. City of eight million, but there’s definitely only one Johnny Storm.” Now he knew nothing had happened to him, Wyatt could just be glad of the fact.
He knew there was a large chance that not everyone in the city would be returning to their loved ones at the end of this night. He’d make sure Johnny wasn’t among that number. Shrugging, he responded lightly, “It’s always turned out alright in the end. Even that time we got arrested.” The truth was, if Wyatt knew Johnny well, Johnny knew him just as well in return. He’d never quite been able to resist the particular brand of adventure a friendship with Johnny offered, even if it did get him into trouble. So it wasn’t entirely selfless. Yet even stronger than the call of adventure was moments like this, when he saw the toll being a superhero took on his friend. Wyatt felt a wave of tenderness as Johnny rested his head against him, his hand resting lightly on Johnny’s back. “You’re worth a bit a trouble, anyway,” he said, smiling warmly, though he doubted Johnny would see it.
Not going to have to convince him, then, Wyatt thought with relief. He was, frankly, tired himself, and the thought of just going home with Johnny was an appealing one. “Of course I will. Can’t have you keeling over in the street halfway there,” Wyatt agreed, nodding seriously. “Let’s consider this my contribution to the cause.” He could not maintain the serious expression for long, breaking back into a smile as he drew Johnny away to where he’d left the bike the FF had gifted him. “I’ve got my hoverbike just over here. Fall asleep if you need to.” He could carry Johnny the rest of the way home if necessary - it wouldn’t be the first time.
\\
Johnny doesn’t enjoy making Wyatt worry about him but it always brings some rationality to his life when those feelings are expressed. He was a flashy superhero, always embracing their accident as a gift. What would he be without the flames that constantly burn within him? Johnny would be lost and surely would expect his body to go into shock if put into a circumstance with inhibitors. His body temperature is naturally well over a hundred degrees — making him like a portable heater. “Only one like me. I’m pretty great.” He tries to form some confetti shapes out of a small streak of fire but it sizzles out into smoke before he could get far. “I’m out of juice for the day ... well that’s disappointing. How do I make my dramatic gestures now?”
The two of them have been through so much over the years, even spending a few hours in jail once. They shared a cell and Johnny remember playing with his fire — always making random shapes with it to keep his mind occupied. The guard keeping an eye on them didn’t understand what could be burning which was such a rarity when someone didn’t know who he is. They just thought he was coming from some kind of party — since he had been in his colorful uniform at the time. “I remember that night very well. You were a good sport through it all. You know I’d do anything for you? Adventures are more fun when you’re there too.“ Johnny admits to his best friend with a bright smile, despite how tired he had been but doesn’t move his head from his chest yet. “You think so?”
Sometimes Johnny could be stubborn — more often than not so maybe it was a surprise that he wouldn’t be fighting it for once. He chuckles a little picturing himself kneeling over in the street. His powers needed a break before he could flame on again, so chances are the only other option left would be is walking home. Maybe Johnny would have called Wyatt anyway to come get him anyway at that point. He doesn’t fight it when being led back outside to where the bike was waiting for them. “Riding in style, I like it. How is she treating you?” He asks while looking at the hoverbike and his blue eyes glancing up at Wyatt through blonde hair while moving his head away from resting against the taller man’s chest for now. “I’ll try not to fall asleep but maybe a five-minute nap wouldn’t hurt. I don’t need more than that.”
