How to succeed Operational Excellence journey
Operational excellence (OE) is a must thing in today’s world because it helps to cut the cost and increase the profits. But many times, companies associate it with additional cost which should not be the case. In fact, OE is a lucrative tool which has been helping organisations in cutting the cost and increasing their profit. Also, once the organization embarks on the journey of OE, they should not leave it in the middle because it is not a one-time solution. It is a continues process. There might be a lot of resistance to the change that OE brings along. Organizations might think of taking a pause in the OE initiatives due to the strong resistance from the team. This could be one of the major reasons for the failure of OE journey.
Today here in this blog we are going to look at the points which will help us succeed in our OE journey.
Think before you start:
Often it happens that the organisations start their OE journey just because the competition is doing so. Also, organisations plan to use this tool just because it is in trend. In such cases, organisations lack proper knowledge, expertise and resources to begin and thus do not get desired results from OE tools and techniques. Hence organisation should gather proper knowledge, resources and should understand the need, how long it will take to give the desired results, how will it help the organization, etc. They should not just go for it without giving it proper thought. Before beginning with the journey, they should first know and understand the cause and effects of the initiatives.
It is not a burden:
As mentioned above, many a time, the organisation will feel it as a burden. They feel it is a mere collection of tools. Rather, it is more of culture. Hence, the initiatives should come from and be embraced by everyone in the organization no matter what is his or her education, skills, expertise and position in the organizations is.
Hire Operational excellence expertise:
Often organisations have the employees who have basic knowledge about OE tools and techniques. And they would plan to begin their OE journey with them. In such cases, the organisations, either gets lost in the mid-way, or doesn’t reap the expected results. Hence, it is very important to hire an expert who knows the OE in and out, to get the expected results. Because, only the skilled and experts can correctly help you with your OE journey implementation no one else.
Pay attention to the bottom line:
Organisations usually follow the top-bottom flow. And in this situation, the bottom line is usually seemed to be paid least of the attention. But you need to understand that bottom level is the key to success for your OE journey. They are the actual implementers. If you do not listen to what’s coming up from there or ignore it, you might never succeed. OE is something that will need 100% participation from all the levels of the organization. Hence, keep all the levels engaged and involved in the OE journey.
It is not one stop journey:
Companies many a time implement a few OE tools and methodologies and consider it as the end of the OE. But OE is a journey without destination. If you truly want to be successful in your OE journey, your organization and your people will have to take time to challenge the status quo. It is surely difficult in a fast-changing world, but it is mandatory if you want good results from your OE efforts.
