I commission from Aeriz for a Yumihisu wedding set in my AU Elduschland. Here, Eldusches have a far more different marriage customs than the one in canon or even contemporary Western. One of the most important symbols in Eldusch culture is blood, which not only represents power but the physical essence of their soul. It make sense since how shifters (called Anser in this AU) always spill blood when transform and the nature how Eldusches manage gain Ymir's power.

Here, Ymir (should be going by her birthname now) and Historia holds a glass of wine. The wine represents Ymir's (Fritz) blood (likely called Mirbine) and contains droplets of each blood (the alcohol should sterilize it). Each drink a slip when the marriage officiant, usually a gothi, says a line of religious significant. After the cup is empty (half and half by each), the officiant officiates the couples, they will kiss. The religion significant of the blood believes that drinking each blood, and being bless by a gothi (or officiates by another significant person), their soul will be bound through it. Pretty hardcore stuff.

Another is the red ribbon that wrap around their hands. This is Eldusches' visual marker for their marriage. Once the cup is drunk empty and their marriage fully officiated, the ribbon will be cut in half and given to each spouse. The ribbon, other by a visual marker, symbolized their soul bound physically, that no matter how far they're from each other, they're still connected. How they wear it is up to the couple and spouse, but usually as a necklace, which Ymir and Historia have done after their wedding. Sometimes, couples and spouses will add tickets and gems on their ribbon, but one of the most common one -and what Ymir and Historia done -is a pendant containing their Coat of Marriage.

(Coat of Marriage is a couple's Archievement (Coat of Arms). It's designed by the two spouses' personal Coat of Arms being placed side-by-side with supporters of either couple's ones. I can't think of Historia's, but Ymir's [likely forced by both her Parí and Historia] is low Or chevron, with Azure filling on the upper half, with 7 Ymir Fritz' 9-Pointed Argent star in right ertical. Her Archievement symbolized gaining her sapient back and being in the Path, representing Rebirth, Freedom, and Second Chance.)

Surname is also different here than Canon; women don't shred their name and take their husband's. Here, like Latin America, both spouses take the other surname. How it does is depend on the spouse's gender, especially same-sex one. Women's surname is mother-surname and father-surname, and men's is the same but reverse. Once the couple is married, the woman takes her husband father-surname and shreds her father's one, and vice versa for man but reverse. Same-sex couples do the same, but it depends on the couple gender. Lesbians will shred their father-surname and take her wife's mother-surname, and the same goes for the other wife. Gay men couples do the same but with their mother-surname.

Nobility is a bit more tricky than how commoners do their naming scheme. Since noble houses play a more significant role in their life, nobles rarely takes their spouses' surname. How it works it depends on the Nobility ranking: if the couple is in the same hierarchy, both couples keep the other surname and do how commoners do so atop. If the one of them is in a higher ranking, say a viscount marrying a marquess (i just using this off English peerage), then the viscount spouse will take the one from thr marquess, regardless ot genders.

Ironically, Ymir and Historia is kind of not in the norm of usual lesbian couples. Ymir's mother, Estrella, had surnames before marrying Skrymir but shreds both her surname (she is a Latina) once married. She views taking only Skrymir's surname like how Ymir views waking up in the Path: fully embracing her Eldusch heritage. Historia previous has two surnames: her mother's, Lenz, which she was forced to use in her cadet years, and her father's. After becoming Queen, Historia, wishing to take her own path and try to live in pride like how Ymir wishes, take her mother surname only, creating the newly form Royal House of Lenz. After the wedding, their Houses were united due to the significance of each other House, forming now House of Lenz-Aurgelmir

And because of their marriage, Marley and the rest of the world are scared shitless.
