Hampta Pass Trek
While many trekkers prefer to trek Hamta Pass Trekfor its bumper accumulation of snow in a narrow funnel-like valley in the month of May, few people take their chances of doing a slog over a moraine ridge with no snow in the post monsoon months. What looks like an absolute stunning alpine snow glaciers and bridges in the month of May transforms into a devious looking field of the rocky moraine in Late September forth.
Trekking Hampta Passin Post Monsoon season gives out a unique impression about the trek which one hardly get to see in the summer season. If you are struck with “Yeh Jawani hai Diwani movie” syndrome then it is far better you do not attempt Hampta Passin late September-October. As you trek towards your first campsite “Chikka” you will gradually see less of greenery and more of the raw beauty of virgin barren Himalayan rock faces. Purist and experienced mountain enthusiasts will find themselves at home.
As you camp at Balu Ka Ghera, you will be confronted with the view of Hampta Col to be climbed the next day. There is no solitude of a monochrome snowy setting as Rani Ka nalla is found to be devoid of any snow bridges one is used to see in the summer months. What you do see is an impressive array of stream formation, trickling down the glacial basin which has completely shrunken into oblivion. The morning rays of the sun are spectacular nonetheless and one can be excused for thinking for not camping here instead of Balu Ka Ghera.
The approach to traversing Hampta Passis not difficult but can be a tiring one. Climbing the eventual 2500 feet to reach Hampta Passis a long haul. With changing weather pattern and loose moraine ridge climb, one has to start early in the morning. The colossal peaks surrounding the Hamta ridge looks intimidating. A couple of un-named peaks around the Col gives an impression of Biblical Beast of Lucifer with it’s two menacing horns.

Hampta Pass Trek with Chandratal tour
Kullu and Lahaul are two adjoining districts of Himachal Pradesh, separated by high mostly snowbound Rohtang Pass. These valleys are geographically quite different, the Kullu/Manali valleys are green, with excellent forest cover and heavy rains, where as Lahaul is in rain shade barren and arid area. A trail combining both these areas by crossing the Hampta Pass Trekgives a spectacular walk into two different terrains. The trail also offers gorgeous views of Dhauladhar, Chandra Bhaga and Mulkila range and the high peaks of Indrasan, Deo TIbba, Shigri Parvat, Kullu Pumori and few other peaks. The Hampta Pass trekhas surprises of crossing turbulent streams, Snow Bridge, walking on glaciers and boulder zone. At the end of the trek, visiting the “Moon lake” Chandratal or Kunzum pass is a delight. Area is known for rich Himalayan flora and fauna and is a birder’s paradise. Hampta Passis indeed a compact but almost “All in One” trek.
Hampta passis an essentially river valley trek where you approach to the pass following Hampta nallah (a tributary of Beas River) amidst green Kullu valley. Descending from pass is also following a river valley a tributary of Chandra River. This time through a contrasting landscape which is barren and rocky in Lahoul. The valley remains in bloom for a considerably time from late summer to as late as September. Abundance of streams along the trail keep the valley well fed.At the end of the Hampta Pass trekthere is a surprise, a visit to Chandratal lake by car. The dirt road to this famous moon lake opens around mid of June. The stunning contrast of the landscape of this area bordering Lahoul and Spiti is hard to believe. The road from Chhatru to Batal following Chandra River is arid, barren and full of rock debris. The area surrounding Chandratal (~ 4200 m/13780 ft) is a typical Spiti moonscape with vivid colours.

Bhrigu Lake Trek
I would call this the perfect WEEKEND hiking option. High altitude treks usually need about a week, but Bhrigu lake Trekcould be comfortably done in 3 days. If you are an experienced trekker you could do it in even lesser time.
Bhrigu Lake trektakes you to the high altitude glacial lake called Bhrigu, the lake is at 4300 meters. If you look up at the sky from Manali, Bhrigu lake Trekis 2km up in the sky from Manali. The trek is a moderately difficult trek, because of two reasons. One - the maximum altitude you reach on this trek is 4300 meters above sea level. Two - the ascents and descents on this trek is steep, so you need to be reasonable fit to do this trek.
Now let me tell you why this trek is a delight! The trek starts from Gulaba which is at an altitude of 2600 meters and after a few hours of the trek, you would cross the forests and the treeline to enter the high altitude alpine meadows of Bhrigu. These meadows are a visual delight, the carpet of green grass along with the blue sky is an enthralling sight which will raise your spirits. Then comes the glacial lake, to be able to see a glacial lake in two days of trekking is not possible on any other trek, that apart Bhrigu lakewill amaze you everytime because the lake changes colours dramatically from blue to green to white during the winters. The alpine meadows of Bhrigu are covered with snow during the colder months and makes it a winter snow trek as well. And finally you also cover dense and fragrant pine forests, followed by green apple orchards. You get to cover all the good things which Himachal has to offer within three days. Book this trek now and enjoy this wonderful adventure!

About Hampta Pass Trek
The striking highlight of any trek involving crossing over a pass into the Lahaul/Spiti region is the wonderful contrast in landscape that one gets to enjoy and Hampta Pass Chandratal Trekis similar in this regard. We start from absolutely lush green valleys of Kullu & Manali and land up in semi-arid region of the Lahaul valley. This wonderful trail is meant for everyone, right from fit/adventurous first timers to seasoned hikers. The pass itself is very inviting and poses fewer challenges compared to some of its brethren but is in no way a cakewalk. Hampta Pass Chandratal trekis quite interesting and moderately challenging in stages with the difficulty of the pass being governed by weather conditions. You will be required to cross the reasonably high Hampta pass(4300m), do a few river crossings, camp in complete wilderness and walk long stretches on certain days. The trek to Hampta passoffers unmatched variety & excitement all along the trail to take care of any exhaustion that might set in.
Hampta Pass trekstarts from the beautiful Manali valley with a short ride from Manali town getting us to the starting point of the trek. It would be advisable to reach Manali a day prior to the trek. We endorse this for proper acclimatisation. Also, you get an opportunity to explore Manali and find some time for Manali trekking. We also have a beautiful orchard guesthouse in Manali.
During the first two days of the hike to Hampta Pass Trek we move through lush green landscape having several meadows inhabited by local gaddis (shepherds). This is a very enjoyable and relaxed stage and one camps at beautiful spots. We walk along rivers and streams and cross a few waterfalls. There is an interesting mix of spruce, horse chestnut, pine, deodar, oak and birch trees all along this section. Shepherd dogs, sheep, white capped redstarts and whistling thrushes comprise the wildlife you get to encounter. Depending upon the season you will also get to see a good variety of alpine flowers. Next stage we approach the Hampta passthrough a relatively challenging terrain which involves walking over scree slopes and boulder ridden trails. The route to the top might be under snow depending upon the conditions and might pose some difficulties. The close views of Deotibba, Indrasan and other unnamed peaks will give you a feel of being completely immersed in the lap of the mighty Himalayas. This is an experience you will surely cherish all your life. We crossover the pass and descend steeply to the grass lands of Shea Gahru. This stage would take about 8 hrs or so.
The last stage of the Hampta Pass trekis in the stark and beautiful Lahaul valley and will take us to Chatru from Shea Gahru. This is an easy section with a few tricky situations to keep you on your toes. From Chatru we board a waiting vehicle to be driven up to the beautiful Chandratal lake. Chandratal is truly a jewel of the mountains being one of the finest high altitude lakes in the country. After this we return back to Chatru where we camp for the night. The next day we board the waiting vehicle and drive to Manali.
