There’s also a misconception that deaths by black widow bite only dropped because of the development of antivenin. In fact, deadly cases of black widow are so rare (not even one is on record from the United States….ever!) that North American hospitals don’t even stock the antivenin at all. What they give you for a widow bite are painkillers. (there’s also no venom treatment for Brown Recluse. What they give you for that is a powerful antibiotic, since it seems to be primarily bacteria that make the bites worse)

This is such a good way to put it. It is incredibly frustrating that that is the norm. It’s like we blew straight past trans acceptance in favor of the “safe” option of nb, because they don’t have to put any effort into representing trans women or trans men. On top of the fact that people think nb is automatically less “boring” and simultaneously somehow MORE representative of trans people. Which is complete bullshit.

it’s disappointing how many creators are up for making a nonbinary character but can’t commit to making a trans woman or a trans man.
