❛ yo. you like chocolates, right? thanks for the gifts last month. ❜ he extends the box of chocolates he bought alongside nozaki, who’d been taking pictures of the white day displays. (he also might have managed to convince him to get something for chiyo; he’s keeping it a surprise for now.) she’s also presented with a flower: a yellow rose for friendship. ❛ here. don’t get any ideas, though! ❜ 8))

                in the middle of chiyo’s struggle to keep her hopes down for today ( guessing if anything, nozaki might try to gift her a sailor uniform again . . . ), she’s surprised when a chocolate box and yellow rose suddenly pass into her hands from mikorin. but before she can express her gratitude, he immediately sets the record straight. a fat drop of sweat trickles at her temple at the slightly redundant statement, but chiyo’s quick to chuckle through it. ❝ ahaha . . . wow, wow! thank you, mikorin !  this will look so cute on my bookshelf ! ❞

 come to think of it, she’s never received a rose from a guy before. even if it’s not from nozaki, she’ll treasure mikorin’s gesture. he really didn’t have to give her anything in return, considering it had been his birthday. ❝ um, did the paint set and case work well ?❞

       cater  to  his  narcissism,  and  it  will  work.  ❛  ahh,  i  see!  and  that  explains  why  you’re  showing  them  to  me!  ❜  there  are  admittedly  quite   some  things  mikoto  is  inept  at,  not  that  he  would  admit  it,  but  he  takes  PRIDE  in  his  figurine  collection.  ❛  i  guess  i  could  take  some  of  his  things  off  his  hands.  if  he  has  anything  that  interests  me,  that  is.  ❜

       when  he  goes  to  take  the  shopping  bag  from  the  girl,  however,  he  remembers  that  they  are  out  in  the  OPEN.  paranoia  sparked,  he  glances  every  which  way,  gaze  narrowed  into  slits.  should  someone  from  school  become  privy  to  this  shameful  secret,  his  reputation  will  be  in  tatters!  ❛  maybe  …  i  should  wait  until  we  go  to  nozaki’s?  ah,  but  i’m  curious  about  what’s  in  there  …  !  ❜  what  a  moral  dilemma!!

             ❝ mm, i knew they would be safe in your hands, mikorin ! haha . . .  ❞ it’s the indulging smile of a mother that blooms on chiyo’s features -- the kind you might find on one pandering to her child by telling him his artwork is the greatest or he’s the strongest person in town, but it’s one borne of care nonetheless. ( thinking about it, she’s beginning to understand suzuki’s desire to protect mamiko from pain or embarrassment a little more . . . )   

at mikorin’s understandable caution towards unveiling the veritable parade of bikini and maid figurines out in the middle of the street, chiyo’s lips pinch together in thought.  ❝ oh ! what about going into that store ? ❞ she suggests, pointing at the old corner shop that sold mostly house and gardening goods.  ❝ it’s mostly only older customers who shop there, so you could probably look through the bag in peace ! ❞

       gait  is  lethargic  and  book  bag  thrown  over  a  shoulder,  casual  in  a  way  that  can  only  be  calculated.  he’s  not  thinking  of  much;  the  game  waiting  for  him  at  home,  if  nozaki  will  be  better  in  time  for  school  tomorrow,  the  effects  he  needs  to  draw.  then  sakura  demands  his  attention,  so  he  turns  towards  her,  eyes  catching  on  the  bag  in  question  and  widening  when  its  contents  are  revealed.

       ❛  what?  he’s  giving  all  of  his  figurines  up?!  why??  ❜  mikoto  can’t  even  fathom  parting  with  his  figurines!  but  one’s  man  garbage  is  another  man’s  treasure,  and  he’s  intrigued  by  what  the  stranger  is  throwing  away.  he  sputters,  however,  when  bikini - clad  bishoujo  girls  are  mentioned.  ❛  hey,  not  all  of  my  figurines  wear  bikinis!  they  wear  school  uniforms  and  maid  outfits,  too!  i'll  check  the  bag  out.  maybe  he  had  some  good  figurines…  though  i  don't  get  why  he'd  throw  them  out.    ❜

❝ oh, i think i saw some like that too! and some cat girls. ❞ chiyo gives an encouraging thumbs-up, brushing past his shyness. but at mikorin’s continued shock, she feels herself immediately tiptoe into DELICATE TERRITORY -- she can’t outright tell him the truth without feeling it could insult mikorin. after all, towa’s friend had been fervent to abandon his otaku side because he believed it would only hold him back in becoming well-liked and popular.  ❝  ahh . . . . haha . . i wonder why . . . ❞   scratching the side of her cheek lightly, chiyo gives a smile to hide her momentary scrambling. what was it that mikorin always said about his figurines again? 

          ❝ um, i think he said something about not having the TIME to take care of them ! ❞  she exclaims at last, fists shaking, confident of an answer their mikorin can approve of.   ❝ he worried they would get dirty and thought it would be better to give them to someone else who has more experience ! ❞

hands squeeze the straps of her bag in rhythm as CHIYO HUMS CHEERFULLY, waiting until they’re a bit farther from campus to finally give mikorin the box she had kept stashed in her locker all day. the contents are a little . . . sensitive, so she wants to make sure they’re alone when he opens it. and at long at last, when there’s no one recognizable left or right on their path, she presents the shopping bag.

           ❝ mikorin mikorin, look look ! one of my brother’s friends is giving up all his figurines, and i thought you could have them! some of them are still in the box too, and there’s some capsule keychains -- ah, but you don’t have to keep them if they’re not your type. there’s not that many bikini ones . . . ❞   // @florecode
