HEALTH TIP😮
Did you know it matters which onion you use?
YELLOW onions are the best all-around cooking onion. They also contain up to 10x more antioxidants than white onions.
WHITE onions are the crunchiest with the sharpest flavor. They are best in salsa and stir-fry.
RED onions are best for eating raw (guacamole, salads and sandwiches). They also contain Anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant that reduces the risk of chronic disease.
SHALLOTS (Levi refers to these as the “gandolf onion”) have a more subtle flavor, but are higher in vitamins and minerals than other onions. They are great in vinaigrettes and garnishes.
Onions 🧅 are good for you. 🤔

collection of useful things tumblr has taught me:
even if you can't fall asleep, laying down with your eyes closed will still rest your body
you don't have to brush your teeth standing up
you don't have to do any chore standing up, from dishes to showering
you don't have to shower with the lights on
if you can't brush your teeth, flossing and a tongue scraper gets rid of plaque and bad breath
if you can't do that, mouthwash kills a lot of bacteria
eating "unhealthy" food is better than eating no food
you can make the same meal everyday for however long you still want it
some pills come in syrups or chewables if you can't swallow them
kids nutritional shakes can be a quick way to get fuel if you can't eat/don't have time
if walking hurts/exhausts you on a regular basis, canes and rollers are for you, no matter how young you are
we have free will—if doing something "out of the ordinary" makes life easier for you, do it

don't use ibuprofen as your default pain medication. the majority of the damage it causes is from prolonged use, and using it regularly will be the thing that has the most risk over taking too high a dose (which is also bad). acetaminophen has its own risks, but not the same danger for prolonged usage (though you also should not ever take over the recommended dosage, it has a hard limit for when it becomes toxic rather than helpful, and you need treatment within eight hours of it reaching that level when the symptoms can take twenty-four hours to show up.)
bottom line, research the meds you use regularly, and if you need pain meds often, speak to a medical professional about what's safe to use. people are hospitalized from overusing both of these common medications.

any food is better than no food. yes even junk foods. yes even "unhealthy" foods. your body needs calories, give it calories.

A can of corn, a can of black beans, and a can of chickpeas or a pound of ground beef/ground turkey in a skillet. I like to brown the meat first but you can kind of do whatever. Mix a packet of taco seasoning in and simmer for as long as the back of the packet says. I also like to cook refried beans in a separate skillet. Add lettuce, cheese, and sour cream (or if you're lactose intolerant like me skip the dairy) to a tortilla and slather that shit in beans and meat and corn. Roll into a vaguely-burrito shape and eat until you regret the number of burritos you have just eaten.
i have never regretted any number of burritos i have eaten

Aldi also sells boxes of garlic and herb/roasted vegetable and chicken Long Grain Rice™. Cook a box of that and about halfway through, cook frozen chicken (I like strips but they sell all sorts of shapes) and whatever veggies you like (I like broccoli and cauliflower, again this can be any veggie you like) in a bit of oil in a skillet. The flavor packets in the rice mix mean you don't really have to worry about seasoning the chicken and veggies, just mix em in with your rice once it's done.
linking this so people can keep them together

Aldi sells orange sauce, popcorn chicken, vegetable oil, rice, and 99 cent bags of steam veggies. Cook a cup of rice as instructed on the packaging. Around the "ten minutes left" mark, pour veggie oil into a skillet, enough to about halfway cover a popcorn chicken, and turn on medium heat. Once hot, drop your popcorn chicken in there and fry until they "pop." Microwave the bag of veggies and pour out as much as you want, and put the rest away in the freezer for next time. Mix the rice, veggies, and orange sauce (I like enough to fully cover everything, you do you) and put the fried chicken on top. Whole thing takes around 20-30 minutes depending on how much practice you have with it.
thank you friend for your service o7 actually going to be taking note of this for myself that sounds incredible

keep a roll of masking tape and a marker next to your fridge to label your leftovers when you put them away so you know how long they've been there. also label when you've opened things that have a longer shelf-life when sealed, because the best before date only applies to that

caramelized onions stay good in the fridge for a week, and if you make a batch you can then easily add some sweet onion to anything you make without worrying about the time it takes to cut and caramelize an onion. can be put in eggs, curries, sandwiches, soups, and so on and so forth. can also then be baked on low heat to make onion chips (tasty).

reheat leftovers and put them in a wrap for easy take-with breakfast. scramble them with some eggs if you need some more protein, helps it stick together too.

adi's food tip of the day (inspired by my new job making me bike like 140 km (90 miles) a week) - potassium is an electrolyte and helps with things like fluid regulation, nerve impulses, and reflex control. make sure you are eating enough potassium. foods that have potassium and how you can eat them:
avocado: mmmm guacamole, also there is a sort of healthy sorbet you can use this to make and the avocado replaces cream so it is also dairy free banana: i personally dislike these but banana chips do not taste bad and still have the potassium. if you are lucky enough to have a food dehumidifier or access to an oven for a long time you can also make your own banana chips coconut water: can literally put it in like smoothies or curry or just drink it sweet potatoes: these also have a bit of protein and vitamin a so a good choice, roast em mash em stick em in a stew, etc spinach: there's this real tasty japanese salad thing w sesame seeds that i cannot recall the name of but it is so good watermelon: yes it has potassium, i don't think i need to list the ways you can eat watermelon
okay i disappear again, everyone eat your potassium, almost no one actually eats enough of it, like less than 0.015% of people do, so eat up!
