“You’d think this was the first time there was a disaster in this city.” Devani had lived through nightmares. God awful things happened before her eyes, she saw them all. But this was nothing more than an inconvinience. “But thankfully there were only two lives lost.” She could have helped them if this was a different city, or tried to at least. But everyone here was too ‘good’.
The disaster in question had been quite horrendous for Adeline and even in the days following she refused to really speak about it. Yet, here was this woman talking as if it had been nothing? That the lives lost had been nothing. “Only? Any loss of life is unforgivable. People- People grieve and you can’t just act like it’s dumb. Lots of things are dumb. An immeasurable amount of things are dumb but that is not one of them.”

“so i always wondered,” aries started, tilting his head to the side, meeting the female’s gaze, “is there some kinda spell to ease the pain from your feet when you wear heels ? especially for events like those. i mean once i wore some louboutin heels – i think they were stilettos as well for an hour and a half and i wanted to off myself so like for this long ?” he whistled, “you must have to use some spell.”
“There’s no specific spell, but if you chuck a few things together you can find something that works. All though, there are some decent stuff you can buy too to help.” Adeline looked at her heel clad feet. “It took some fiddling to figure out the right incantation, but it was definitely worth it. How can you dance if your feet hurt?”

“ so what do you say to getting your favorite niece a drink ? apparently i still have a baby face… “ judith gave a warm smile. “ i won’t tell DAD if you don’t. i promise. “ what was the point of an open bar if all she could get were shirley temple’s and coke’s ? sometimes she wished that she was older. all she ever wanted to do was grow up and be an adult. hell , she’s been an adult since she was fifteen and had convinced herself that leaving was the only choice she had.
@addlxl.
“It’s not an apparently. I got the same thing when I was your age though, made going out a right hassle.” Adeline grinned. “One drink. And nothing too strong either.” She wasn’t very good at saying no to Judith, especially after all those years she had left her alone while she’d been on tour. Nothing would quite rid her of that guilt.

“That’s fine, I have time.”
Noel was always so quick to paint himself the victim. He could see Adeline (“Adelaide”) stare him down with exact same hatred he felt for her. They went through the motions - one, two, three of a waltz - and Jasper continued to hold tight.
“A murderer? I’m a hunter. That’s what I do. It’s what my family has done for centuries. You’re far too smart to misunderstand the status quo of things.”
He had learned not to underestimate her. Noel had always said his sister was brilliant and when Jasper had finally met her he’d decided that this was, in fact, an astute statement. Just as he didn’t feel the need to dumb things down for her, he didn’t feel the need to beat around the bush either.
“But since you seem to have a difficult time grasping the reality of the situation - where do you want to begin?” He hissed. “The part with the curse or the part where I had to do whatever it took to protect myself and my family?”
Adeline was trapped and Adeline didn’t like feeling trapped. “Doesn’t mean I like it. I’ve had enough of killing, if you don’t mind.”
Maybe that was why it had finally been time for her to leave the army. It felt like for all the death and destruction she saw, she was barely helping. Barely helping the soldiers who were trying to do better. At least at the ER, you didn’t see how it happened.
Difficulty understanding the situation? What was she? A child? “Noel never would have done anything to hurt those kids and not being human doesn’t change that.” She stopped, realising the first two words that she had almost missed. “Curse? What curse?” There wasn’t any curse as far as the blonde knew and the blonde knew a lot of thing.

Adeline couldn’t remember the last time she’d been to something so fancy. Fancy wasn’t a word one would really use to describe the blonde woman. Despite that, she cleaned up pretty damn well if she did say so herself. She did have to get a hairdresser to do her hair but that was because she couldn’t do the teasing thing like she pictured in her mind. Then poor Noel had to listen to her rant and rave while she did her makeup. Makeup was an artform. An artform that took her a really long time to do right.
It’d been worth it in the though.
Spotting her brother in his suit (not black, she was very proud of him), she practically hopped back over to him with a glass of chardonnay in her hand. “I knew it’d be flash, but this is a whole new world of flash. Maybe the hair was a bit much, but I like the hair so really it’s okay.” She paused in her babble to take another sip, “The alcohol is also fancy. I like that bit” @liarsclvb

“Hello Adelaide. I don’t think I’ve seen you since the funeral.”
His wrist has healed, but there’s plenty in his chest that hasn’t. When Jasper sees Adelaide he decides that perhaps now is better than never. He’s managed to pull her into a dance and he holds her there, using the strength the serum gives him to grip tight. Almost like a marionette. They fall into something shaped like a waltz, but it is a shade more deadly.
This is an interrogation more than anything else. Which is honestly what Jasper wants. She can’t run, she can’t create a scene - what better place to have this conversation?
“I’d say it’s high time we had a talk, don’t you?”
There was only one person in the world who called Adeline ‘Adelaide’ on a consistent basis. This specific person was most likely the only one she’d ever consider ripping a heart of like all the folklores say witches did. She never did particularly enjoy Jasper’s company, but the fact he’d killed her brother definitely didn’t help.
And of course he pulls her into a waltz. Dancing with men in general was not something she was fond of, yet this was worse.
“About which part? You being a murderer? If we want to talk about that, we’re going to be here for a while.”
He was smart, she’d give him that. Not her level, but smart enough to know that she couldn’t use any of her magic with all everyone here. Smart enough to know that he had her caught, like a fly in a spider’s trap. And she hated it.

Annoyance glitters in his baby blues when he notices the bat Addie wields. New York City had it has its demons in the shadows, sure, but Noel knows the magic in her fingertips are much more deadly. Truth is, he’s jealous because he longs for magic to in his.
When she mentions it, Noel’s sights wander down to garments and he is reminded of the tragedy taken place tonight. He may have lost his cool, but no one’s dead. Bones were cracked, wrists were broken, but every walking away alive tonight, and he counts it as a victory.
“I saw him.”
He didn’t seek him out, no, fate lead him to Jasper. Noel has no reason to lie to his sister, though he’s not sure how she’ll about this. Bullet holes, blood, and all. Seeing Jasper tonight, three years later, ripped open a wound that Noel swore, up and down, had healed.
Now, he wonders if it ever will.
“It went…” he continues, and gestures to the ruined shirt, “..okay..”
The blonde has been aware of her magic for almost two decades now, yet the idea of relying on that alone was still something that didn’t sit right with her. Maybe it was her not properly accepting it. Or maybe it came from the necessity to hide her skills while on the field.
Noel didn’t have to say his name. In fact Adeline much preferred that he didn’t. The name made her blood boil. It made her so angry it almost scared her.
The sight of her brother in such a state was... unwelcome to say the least. And it bought unwelcome memories. Memories that caused her heart to clench and mind to buzz. She kicked into gear, forgetting that he didn’t need her to heal him.
“Sit down, I’ll fix you up.” Without even waiting for an answer, she was gone again to retrieve her kit. She might not be a combat medic anymore, but she still kept her kit like she was one.

“ apparently, i never considered myself exactly smart with anything other than throwing a good left punch & knowing when to block. “ he comments offhandedly, strategy he can admit he’s good at, physical prowess but something like a rubik cube ? he’s bound to overthink it until it’s stickers are ripped off & replaced forcefully. “ did you just teach yourself or ? “
“I wasn’t smart with that kind of thing till I joined the military, so that’s impressive.” Adeline’s mention of her time in the army was flippant, like it meant almost nothing to her. Coping mechanism. She nodded. “Basically. My brother bought me one when we were about eleven. No other way of learning back then.”

The apartment door creaks announcing Noel’s arrival. “Dammit”, the vampire whispers, realizing now, close to two thirty in the morning, they need to get the front door fixed. He prays to God it doesn’t wake Addie. He doesn’t want to explain why he’s stumbling in so early in the morn, when he’s usually in bed at nine thirty. He doesn’t want to explain why his favorite sweater is soiled with bullet holes and his own blood. He doesn’t want to tell her that he’s having second thoughts, maybe coming back to New York City is a mistake.
Noel pops his head to fridge, grabs his favorite O negative, and pokes a straw in it and takes a sip. After a night like the he had, this is exactly what he needed. He lifts his head and sees a figure in the doorway, “Jesus Christ,” Noel gasps, but he can only assume it is sister, Adeline.
“What are you doing up this late?”
@addlxl
Adeline either slept very lightly, or not at all. It was part of why she loved working the night shift so much. Tonight was a night off for her, yet it was also more on the no sleep end of the spectrum. For the past few hours, she had been up tinkering with paperclips. By this point she had a good fifty or so beside her in various shapes and contraptions. Her rubix cube was sitting in her lap for when she eventually got bored of that too. She was in pyjamas at least, that had been a start.
The creak makes her start. In a split second, she’s laser focused and her body tense. Grabbing the baseball bat from her bed (magic was wonderful, but nothing really bit a good old baseball bat in her eyes), she slowly made her way from her room. Swallowing at the sight of the figure in the kitchen, it wasn’t until she was standing in the doorway, bat raised, that she realised who it was. Pulling the bat in, her manner turned light again. “Could ask you the same question.” It was then she noticed the state he was in. She dropped the bat to the ground and made her way over. “I could also ask what the hell happened to you?”

@addlxl / adeline.
“ how’d you figure it out that quick ? that would’ve taken teenage niko years & i’d probably have just broke it instead. “ impatient with anything mundane at the time, a rubik cube would’ve been tossed to the side. a friendly smile’s offered that lights up his entire face, head inclining slightly. “ is there some trick to it ?? ——or are you just a magician ? “ which is obviously the answer in his book.
“Cause I’m genius, that’s why.” Adeline grinned, grabbing the rubix cube and twisting it as she spoke. “There are tricks to it, but I don’t need to think about it anymore.” After all, her cube had been a comfort item of hers since she was a child. A way to distract herself. Something for her mind to do when the world around her was far too boring. Her being a witch had nothing to do with it in the slightest.

A laugh escaped Daphne’s lips at the scene that was playing out in front of her. Of course, the conversation had nothing to do with Daphne, but she could not pass up the opportunity to listen — and sometimes, vampire hearing didn’t give her the option.
When the person in front of her turned around, looking for the culprit of the laugh, Daphne contemplated pointing a finger away from herself. Instead, she allowed a hand to move over her mouth, still giggling. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop… but can you blame me?”
Adeline really didn’t think it was fair how people thought it was perfectly okay to be spewing false information around. Like the man standing on the streets, trying to convince anyone who would listen, that the Earth was flat. “There is scientific evidence proving that it’s round. The stuff you’re talking about is from like the 1600s and while the 1600s was probably a wonderful time, they weren’t really the smartest bunch of all time. Are you from the 1600s? Is that it because then I definitely understand your thoughts, but if not. There’s no excuse.” At the laughter, she spun around. “No blame, laughter’s good. The whole idea is super laughable, cause it just- it doesn’t make any sense.”

𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒸𝒽 𝒶𝓅𝓅 ( jodie whittaker. female, she/her, dream + bishop briggs ) i heard ADELINE LAWTON singing the other night, though it didn’t sound like english… it’s so admirable that someone who’s only THIRTY-EIGHT can sing latin so fluently! heard they hang out with those TACITUM CIRCLE, that must be because they’re a ER DOCTOR at NEW YORK PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL . i always see them going home to MANHATTAN by CAR OR BICYCLE under the moonlit night.
Adeline was one of a set of twins born to a teenage mother who had quickly decided that a set of twins was too much for her to handle. In most instances, a situation like this would be quite dire for the twins. Yet, lucky for the them a pastor and his wife were looking to do some good. That good turned into adopting the twins.
Unfortunately, neither parent really knew what they were getting into. There was no law saying you had write down the species your children were.
On the outside, Adeline was the perfect blonde little girl, the complete opposite of her brother. She got the top grades, didn’t go out late at night (primarily because she didn’t have very many friends to do that with) and had practically memorised the bible
Unfortunately, Adeline was smart to a point that wasn’t quite normal for kids her age. Many would have called her a genius if she didn’t spend her childhood and teenage years hiding those brains of hers. It was something that could make her stand even more then her eccentric personality did. She’d no longer be the perfect blonde haired daughter her parents had gotten.
It was when she hit nineteen, soon after her brother had been kicked out and she was in her first year at med school that she realised two things (well three if you want to look at technically). One, she wasn’t straight. Not in the slightest. It was something she had always kind of known, but had always denied. After all, she was raised by a pastor, it wasn’t allowed. Her asexuality wasn’t necessarily not allowed, it was just something she didn’t understand, something she believed to be wrong with her.
Now the second thing. It took some research and a recognition that the things that were happening around her had once happened around Noel, were happening around her. Maybe they always had, but with Noel around she had always thought it was him. Eventually, she stopped denying that she too was a witch.
While she got her PhD in Medicine, she simultaneously did some study of her own into witchcraft and by the time she was done, she was as a good a witch as she was a doctor. In other words, she was really fucking good. Adeline had long ago stopped holding herself back with such things.
It had taken her only six years to get her PhD (genius over here) and from there, she went into a field practically no one expected her too. She became a combat medic for the US Army. It’s hard for her to explain why she did it. But not once has she regretted it.
She spent the next thirteen years as a combat medic, doing four tours ranging from six months to two years. A year ago, she was honourably discharged.
From there, she became an ER doctor at one of the biggest hospitals back home in Pennsylvania. It wasn’t Noel turned up suddenly at home during one of her sleepless nights that things once again shifted.
After mending the relationship, Adeline decided to follow her brother to New York. She arrived about a week ago and is currently still staying with her brother. Due to her high reputation, she was able to transfer to New York Presbyterian Hospital as an ER Doctor. Her choice to join the Tacitum Circle came from her experiences while on her tours. She is a firm believer in the use of both dark and light magic as she’s seen far too much to believe that only the light can do any good.
EXTRAS
Adeline is eccentric to say the least has a constant stream of words leaving her mouth. Her time (when she’s not working) is spent tinkering with bits and pieces or fiddling with her rubix cube.
While she doesn’t like admitting it, she is suffering from PTSD. She was officially diagnosed back home and has yet to put anything in place for herself here.
This witch is what you call smart. Her IQ is high enough for her to be considered a genius and her photographic memory really does help out with the whole learning thing
If you had to pick a deadly sin for Adeline, it would be pride. She’s aware of how intelligent she is and sometimes that can feed into her having a bit of an ego. Her pride gets in the way of much and is one of the worse parts of her.
Don’t be worried though, she really is just a sweetheart who has spent her whole adult life wanting to save people. She genuinely likes people even if she isn’t always the greatest at understanding others sometimes.
