What a song

I didn’t know I could like 80s synth-pop instrumentals so much

The opening distorted vocals + drum machine going into the guitar part is STUNNING

Also that recurring guitar riff with the rhythm

The low synth + Jae’s low voice make me want to cry

The jump up high for the pre-chorus is a really interesting shift in the melody

That weird high glockenspiel (?) synth is AWESOME I LOVE IT

I actually love, love, love the drum part in this song – it seems almost NOT 80s (more pop-rock) and keeps the song moving

THE BASS PART YOUNG K GO OFF – it moves so much in the verse and provides a nice counterpoint for the vocal melody

Love that instrumental break with the extra drum machine effects

The bridge is so distorted and cool – I HEAR COWBELL?

The “Aaahs” with the higher “oooos” Oh My God those vocals are so wild and I love them

Jae changes up the second verse

  The whole song screams nostalgia in the best way possible – the lyrics are about reminiscing about better days and that’s supported by the retro/80s instrumentals (…dare I say text painting??)

Day6 really have a gift for creating a mood and communicating a very specific emotion. Idk how they do it but there’s something in the melody and their voices that crosses language barriers and tells me, very clearly, that this is a song about missing someone they felt happiness with or longing for a time long past.

Also, this is such a clear example of the “Day6 spin” – they took a really well-known genre and made it their own.  I think they do this primarily through the vocal melody which we all know it one of Day6’s strongest suits.  They’re melodies always move in interesting directions, often unpredictably, and it completely changes the effect of the 80s instrumentals. They’re not corny or annoying (I hate Duran Duran and 80s synth pop Madonna).  Instead, the 80s sound becomes an interesting element that contributes to the song’s theme of nostalgia and missing a loved one.

Ok but can we talk about this?

I mean, as someone who has depression relapses this hit me really hard. I know how it is to just keep living for one thing. For me it’s always been my family.

But for someone to say this out loud takes a lot of courage. And you can’t tell me he said it without meaning it, just hear his voice almost cracking and see his face; not to mention, all those song lyrics are things people with depression normally think.

And sorry, I know this is a really sensitive topic, but I’m scared. I just don’t want to see the person I admire think like that. Cause then it would mean he’s really trying his best to have a reason to live everyday.

So, I’ve just watched a YouTube video and in the comments they were talking about “toxic” fans and “toxic” fandoms.

Someone mentioned how “toxic” fandoms shift and how at one point one fandom was considered “toxic” and a year later it was another. They also talked about how they suspect that in 2019 either NCTzen or Stay could become the next fandom being labelled as “toxic”.

Of course this is just one person’s opinion and nothing more but it made me reflect on some things:

You can’t keep a fandom clean of “toxic” fans since they can and will be found everywhere and in every fandom. However, I noticed from my own experience there’s certain fandoms that managed to stay on the down-low for as far as I’ve seen. Or at least, I haven’t seen the fandoms engage in fanwars or there had never been any big incident going on.

I guess it’s impossible to stay fully free from incidents but I hope we can manage to stay on the down-low and stay a loving fandom (both Stay & NCTzen ofc) throughout 2019 and the years to come.

And in general, I just wish all of us could spread more love in the upcoming year, no matter whether this love will be directed to your faves or another group, just spread that love and support.

There’s something that all kpop groups have in common and that all of us should be able to agree on and that is them being in an extremely hard and judgmental industry with very high expectations and beauty standards. All kpop groups and every single member has worked their butt off to get to the point where they are now (regardless of whether you like them or not) and I hope you all agree with me when I say all of them deserve the same amount of love and support since all of them do need it. However, of course I don’t mean to say you can’t have an ult group, I’m just trying to say it’s very unhealthy to make one group seem superior to the other or even worse, putting another group down.

Therefore, I hope Stays, NCTzen, Carats, Monbebes, Armies, exo-l, igot7, Reveluv, Blinks, Once, and literally any fandom can unite a bit more in the upcoming year and support and spread love upon everyone.

In the end we are all here because of one reason and that is, we love kpop, so why do we feel the need to fight?

Let’s stick together and hype all groups to the moon and back because they deserve that appreciation.
