Hi umm baby vulture here. There's a roadkill bunny in my fridge I would love to skin whole but I've never done that before with any animal so I'm kind of afraid of fucking up the paws and face, any tips? 😅 Ps. I love your blog so much, keep it up ❤
There are two skinning tutorials on my Vulture Culture Resource page that explain the details on how to go about skinning for the first time! The only things to add is that you just have to be VERY careful with rabbits when it comes to skinning them because their skin is so thin and delicate. It’s best to use a slightly dulled scalpel blade so that you don’t pierce the skin.
You can also ‘cheat’ a bit with rabbits, especially smaller ones. Their paws are mostly tendon so you don’t have to skin them out all the way if you choose not to. You can cut them off at the wrist/ankle and then just salt the paws really well when you salt and dry the rest of the hide and they’ll be fine most of the time. However, it’s best to skin down to the last toe bone or the claw (there’s video on the first skinning tutorial that goes into that) if you can! It’ll lessen the chance that the paws will slip because if they don’t dry fast enough the paws can continue to rot. It takes some extra time but the results are MUCH better when you skin the paws out all the way imo, but if it’s your first time skinning it’s important to do what you feel most comfortable with!

Hi! Sorry to bother you, but I saw you're Irish polytheist and I was wondering if you could tell me anything about Miach? Out of all the celtic gods, I think I really click with him, but...I can't really find much information on him save for the story of him healing King Nuada, and can't find anything at all about worshipping him.
I am indeed, and don’t worry you’re not bothering me at all. I like getting sent questions, it’s nice.
MIACH is the son of Dian Cecht (whom is the son of the Dagda). He, like his father, is a healer and a very skilled on at that, which is why Dian Cecht killed Miach for being able to craft Nuada a hand made of flesh in place of the silver prosthetic.
From this, you can take two things:
Healing is a major factor in Miach’s lore and therefore, likely plays a major part in his worship or working with him.
Skill is another major factor in Miach’s lore, and it is safe to assume that you can work that into worshipping him also.
You can expand on these two things even further:
Herbs and herbalism are important in healing and in Miach’s lore. According to his mythology, when his sister (Airmed) wept over his grave, 365 herbs and plant sprung to life. These herbs were known as the herbs of the world, and reflected the amount of joints and veins in Miach’s body. You can work this into your worship and honouring of him in many ways. For example, you may choose to create a herb garden, with herbs such as Chamomile, Peppermint, Angelica and Rosemary. These plants are used commonly in healing. Not only that, but growing them and using them is something that is tied closely to Miach’s own story.
Miach was killed out of jealousy that arose from his skill as a healer. There are many ways to honour skill, and it is my belief that if one were to start working with Miach, you could honour him by improving your skills and offering works you have crafted to him.
I hope this is of some help, there isn’t a lot on Miach, and when it comes to worshipping or working with him, it may be best to start out with the basics as above, build your relationship with him, and let he himself guide you.

Do you have any good Irish folklore recommendations? I know loads about Greek and Roman mythology but almost nothing about my own culture's legends bar the ones you do sa bhunscoil and I'd like to change that. Go raibh míle!
Sure! Disclaimer, but I’m sure you already know this: Irish mythology is definitely different to Greek/Roman/Norse etc mythology, in that it is absolutely entrenched in history and religion. Sometimes, the lines between history and story and faith are invisible - there’s not quite a pantheon with exact versions of stories (as is the case in many mythologies tho).
I would say that as the myths and legends have been passed down through the oral tradition, and that remains the best place to hear them, so definitely ask any older people if they have stories!
Now, a bunch of resources (asterisks beside ones i personally recommend)
candlelit tales have a podcast series where they tell myths and then discuss them a little. they are BEAUTIFUL i can’t recommend this enough and they cover all the myths really really good *
blúiríní béaloideas is another folklore podcast i haven’t listened but it’s made by scholars in the field from UCDeece so they kno their stuff
this website is an INCREDIBLE resource with written versions of loads of stories and plenty of links/discussion on them, really really good, esp if you prefer reading to listening. it’s also got recent irish literature/art/music/language resources compiled over 2 decades. really recommend!! *
CELT has directly uploaded the ancient texts online so you can read the old manuscripts for FREE, with english translations!! it’s A1, i especially recommend the early poetry *
the craobh crua have made direct translations of many irish stories etc. straight from the manuscripts *
this website has a vast amount of irish stories, poems, and general writing typed out, categorised, and translated *
UCC have translated loads of sagas and made them available here *
duchas.ie is an astounding collection of irish folklore, all explained on the home page of the link but yeah search any topic and you’ll find it a story about it there *
a list of irish mythology books that was compiled by a professor
an irish times article recommending books about mythology
the encyclopaedia mythica has lots of stuff on various elements of irish mythology
here are various untrustworthy websites purporting to have information about irish mythology. most of this is prolly bull but sure lookit
there are some youtube videos that tell/discuss them - x x x
That’s everything I have I think! Feel free to ask any questions

Saw a post where someone made fun of another persons atypical way of typing and when they were then told that the person in question type like that because of a disability, they went “how was I supposed to just know that?” - and in case anyone wasn’t aware the answer to that kind of fuckery is:
“You’re not supposed to know that, you’re just supposed to not make fun of anyone’s harmless differences regardless of whether they’re disabled or not. You’re not supposed to be able to tell “weird” abled neurotypicals and disabled/mentally ill people apart, you’re just supposed to treat people with respect generally speaking. It’s not that hard. “I didn’t know they were disabled” is just not the excuse you think it is cause you’re not supposed to make fun of anyone for completely harmless differences regardless of whether said differences are related to a disability or not.

the images When trying to find a good apothecary cabinet that is functional as both storage and work space the best I’ve found is entertainment centers or Armories. I found these to be particularly easy to convert to my purpose by taking out some of the shelving and replacing it with shorter rows of shelving with a lip or rail to prevent the herb jars from falling but to provide more storage space and have that apothecary look at the same time. i like the ability to close the doors on the herbs in case they are not stored in amber glass jars so they are protected from the light. the work space would be in the middle where the TV should be you can be sure to have that area cleared to make your work space neat and clean and the drawers can sore many of the tools you need and i like the idea of a side board as well for additional storage and work space should it be needed. the images I’ve provided are the closest to ready made cabinets i could find and only need a few minor alterations.

Blooding Runes
To preface this I’d like to say that by no means am I an expert on Runes (lore, casting, reading, etc…) but I have been working with them for a long time and participated in handfulls of various workshops and studied under seasoned practitioners who I would say are as close to experts as it really gets. This will probably be somewhat lengthy because various things require a bit of explanation so I apologize in advance for that.
I’ve wanted to make this post for a while because I think that there’s a very common misconception with many folks who work with runes on this website, which is that runes are a simple divination device similar to tarot, oracle cards, I Ching, etc… In my experience and the experience of many this isn’t true.
So why aren’t runes the same as tarot?
We have zero factual evidence showing us that the cultures who originally used runes used them as tools for divination. What we do know however is that they were looked at as energies/spirits of the earth. So given that that’s how they were originally considered, we should pay them similar mind.
The origin story of the runes is equally important here. Odin sacrificed himself by spearing himself to a tree (Yggdrasil) to obtain the secrets of the runes. The runes only revealed themselves to him after he shed blood to them. For those of y’all who don’t know why he did that, as legend goes, the runes won’t reveal themselves to those who don’t prove themselves worthy.
So how do you prove yourself to the runes?
There are a few ways I guess. And for a while at first, it’s not entirely necessary to blood them. Start with sacrifices. Gebo should be considered heavily here. A gift for a gift. What are you asking of the runes? What seems like a fair trade for their help? Most divinatory exchanges can be repaid with alcohol or bread, blood if you’re feeling up to it. But note that the substitutions for blood will only be sufficient for so long. I like to think of the runes as being mercenary in nature. What I mean by that is that the favors granted by them aren’t necessarily favors per se. They’re more like paid debts (I use that word for the lack of having a better one here) So if you haven’t given anything to them, they likely won’t be very willing to work for you.
What is blooding runes?
Blooding runes is simply giving blood to the runes. If it’s just a blood offering you can put your blood in an offering vessel and I would recommend galdring them. Now if you have a set of runes, you can physically blood them, and everyone seems to have a different method for this but mine is to blood each rune individually while galdring their names as they’re in my hand. I do this for every rune. In certain cases, like asking for favors from specific runes, you would just blood the ones you’re working with.
I find that often times when others or myself are having issues with runes, specifically in terms of divination, that it’s often due to the fact we haven’t been practicing Gebo with them and they require payment. So if you find yourself at odds with the runes, or just getting faulty readings or whatever, make an offering give it some time and come back to them.
