I haven't asked too much about hayato, so here's one:

What does he think about her? I know they're co-workers with more of an "unlikely friendship (or more?)" vibes but I mean like.. how does he perceive her in his day-to-day life? He teases her, is it to get her attention? To be annoying? For interest?

YEESS I love getting asks abt him and him and Eiko is even better (also if you recognize the reference I love you)

I realized I haven't properly shown what their relationship is actually like in current time, so I'll explain it here; the status quo after Eiko stops trying to kill him and they start getting along is that they become very close.

I think that would inevitably happen because the position the plot puts them in is one in which they'd end up feeling like they can trust and rely on each other in a way they really can't with anyone else. Hayato has no one else who knows his secret(s) and treats him the way she does. Either people don't know, and he feels like he can't open up to any of them or even form a significant bond with them, or those who do (a.k.a. the cult) treat him like shit and like some sort of laboratory experiment and not a person. He considers himself an abomination because to him that's just what he is in objective terms. Eiko is the only person who knows about what he's gone through and considers and treats him like a person and an equal, and also sees good in him.

I usually draw him teasing her or being a cocky asshole in general but a lot of time he's also very sweet to her, he ends up becoming a bit (very) attached. Like when I said she was his comfort human I said it jokingly but it is kinda true. Also I'd say him teasing her is almost a sign of how fond he is of her, he does not do that to ppl he doesn't gaf about, he'll just be sort of polite and disinterested LMAO

He teased her at first when they were on bad terms because he just found it amusing to push her buttons to the point of seeing her facade of aloofness and sort of "I'm above you and above caring about what you say" attitude crumble. She's usually so uptight and stern that it made him want to make her snap and show that she's really not as perfect as she tries to be (reminder that they were on bad terms, if it sounds like he was a little mean that's because he was 💀 they were both "a little mean" to each other at the start of the story tbf). After they start warming up to each other, he does it in a more lighthearted way just because it's second nature at this point and he still thinks her reactions are funny and endearing. And also yeah partly because he also wants her attention 😭 he's a little pathetic sometimes but that's fine, so is she

He also comes to see what her personality is truly like beyond both her initial aloofness and her temper, especially after she starts warming up to him herself (which took way longer; they both get attached easily but Eiko with her wounded pride was more resistant). She starts relaxing a bit and being kinder to him. They're eventually able to open up to each other about their personal insecurities and struggles. Eiko especially had some unresolved resentment towards him from when they were kids, which she eventually gets over, and like I said she makes him feel like he's a person worth caring about when they're together.

In short, he thinks pretty highly of her lmao, he thinks she's lovely, he is oh-so-fond of Eiko and of her creepy ass eyes and her emotional constipation and her little frown when she gets pissed at him because he said something stupid

On earth, there is a fictional country (underwater country) called Bellaphim. In that area, for some reason a lot of sea creatures are born with super powers. These "powers" in question are actually mutations to survive the harsher conditions, but most of the population think it divinely gifted. The first person to "gain" these powers was his dad. His dad thinks he's a literal god and so themed himself, his family and his in-laws around greek gods (hence why his kid is named hercules.). Hercules *is* strong but it's most likely because he was tampered with in the womb.

His mother died when he was a small, small child. He has a lot of fond memories, and he misses his mother dearly. He's actually a really good chef, but the main reason why he is is because cooking makes him feel closer to his mother. His dad hates it when he cooks because it's "unmanly" and on top of that "it's not how a god acts".

His father, in the goal of trying to turn him into something almost worshipped, enrolled him in a special school established for students with "supernatural abilities". He was a popular kid because his father was renowned for his status as a hero... And also because everyone thought he was cute but that's irrelevant 🤷‍♀️. Hercules ended up having very surface level friendships, and felt like he was drowning in the constant pursuit of trying to live up to something he was not. Then came along the little yellow alien who's named after a fried potato.

He was the one who came up with the name "Tater tot". It was originally to make fun of her because of her almost clueless disposition while on Earth, but it soon turned into something affection (see the ladder part of the post for a more in-detail analysis of their relationship (the blorbos part)).

Through campaigns, marketing, and grand acts of public service, they've created the whole industry of heroes.

Hercules was.. less than pleased though. He wanted to make a real impact, and he turned to politics. At first, it was praised as a good thing- more power for his family. However, he quickly got pushback from them when he was adamant on actually doing the right thing, instead of just handing them free spots and pardons and whatnot.

Tater tot actually discovered him at the first of many meetings with world governments. She didn't recognize him at first, but he did. By the time he saw her, she'd grown into an intelligent lady with those bug eyes he loved. So, he was smitten again with her, but kept it under wraps.

The blorbos: Tater tot and Hercules

Hercules x Tater tot is one of my secret ships, even though I portray her as him getting on her nerves (actually I haven't yet but I will. source: trust me bro). I grew up a multishipper, can u blame me?

Hercules, as pretty & annoying he is, he's also extremely pathetic. dude loves women so much but he has ZERO game. The kind of pathetic is 90s RnB where the dude is in the rain is either shirtless or has a sleeveless jacket begging and crying for some girl who's repeatedly rejected him.

The reason I ship Hercules x Tater tot is because a lesser-known lore fact about the two is that they did actually date when they were younger. It was more of a fling. Tater tot at the time didn't know what the earthling term "boyfriend" meant and just thought it was a general term, kind of like how people use "girlfriend" to just mean a female friend. Tater tot is generally an affectionate person and loves giving hugs, pats, and even kisses to her friends just because. Hercules thought her little tater-isms were cute, especially since she was still in the process of learning about Earth and trying to understand what was going on constantly. She knew about his traumatic upbringing and didn't judge him for it. She also knew that he was of celebrity status and was unaffected by it. She treated him like a real person, and for the first time in a very, very long time, he felt seen.

The reason they broke up was because Tater tot got nervous when Hercules began being clingy with her. He'd want to talk all the time, got jealous whenever she was talking to other people, and showed an uncomfortable amount of PDA. On top of this, the way she was brought up she was virtually invisible to everyone. So to suddenly be rushed with a bunch of attention and love was scary to her and it awakened a deep sense of panic in her. She also felt pressured to reciprocate that same affection but didn't know how. So, to save his feelings she broke things off.

Hercules clings onto that feeling of being genuinely loved for who he was and not for what he could give another person just by associating with him. It's a case of unrequited love.

In some AU that I think about sometimes (...I wouldn't be opposed to drawing it if anyone wanted me to 👁️) , where Hercules x Tater tot is the main ship, I have it that Hercules and Tater tot reconcile with each other over what happened in their youth, and they become "just friends"...

By that I mean Tater tot is resistant to falling in love with him because of her pride. She doesn't want to be seen as "crawling back to him" after breaking it off first, or looking desperate. Not to mention her status as an empress lol. Little does she know that she doesn't even have to do that because the man is pathetic and would crawl on glass if it meant he got a chance again. But he's afraid of her saying no... so there's quiet pining between them and her acting like she's annoyed with his flirting. But he knows her better than that. Whatever she does, that's not how she acts when she's actually annoyed.

Hayato is unfazed (he's used to getting the death stare but he really doesn't find her eyes unsettling at all anyway). He thinks it's kinda funny and endearing so he plays along and it turns into a staring contest

Theo doesn't gaf 💀 I don't think bro can feel fear tbh, also he's been her only friend for a while he knows she's chill (well with him at least)

Out of curiosity, how are heterochromia eyes viewed in Eiko's society? Are they also viewed as superstitious or nah?

Ok very good question, I actually hadn't thought about heterochromia

Part of me hesitates to say that heterochromia also counts as a mutation in this universe bc idk- I don't want to offend anyone who actually has it irl 😭

I do think, however, that given that irl it's also usually a genetic mutation, and a rare one at that, it just makes sense that it could also be a paranormal mutation in my story. In-universe it's not an inherently bad thing, it's just interpreted that way by some people. Which does mean that yeah the same people who are superstitious about Eiko's eyes would probably also be superstitious about people with heterochromia.

I will say though that mutations aren't inherently unsettling or creepy-looking, Eiko just got unlucky, there are probably a lot of people with discreet and even nice-looking mutations. Still superstitious people are superstitious regardless

I noticed Hayato's pupils are kind of like a snake's or cats.... is this related to the cult trying to make the perfect human?

They're meant to look feline yes!! (technically fox-like but foxes and cats have very similar eyes and features I'd say even if foxes aren't felines shush) They weren't caused by the perfect human experiments though, both Sanako and their mom have them, and so do a lot of ppl in his mom's side. In-universe, Hayato was already born with them.

I changed them to have slit pupils as part of a small redesign I gave him because honestly bro had a pretty basic design before, he still does, but I felt like he was missing something 😭 I've always associated him a LOT with foxes so the idea came to redesign him to give him more feline features. It's not really very noticeable but I changed his eye shape slightly, then his pupils, I draw him with the :3 mouth a lot and he also has noticeable fangs now. Like I said pretty minor redesign but I felt like it gave him the flair he was missing and it also made him a lot more fun to draw.

The only thing that is directly related to his powers (and therefore the perfect human cult bs) is that his eyes glow and often change to a gold colour. This happens when he uses his powers but they also glow faintly in the dark (like kitty). This doesn't happen to anyone else in his family.

Tater tot's father retired before her mother did (to take care of tater n all that). But as he got older, he pursued being a professional chef. He always wanted to be one, but gave that up to support Sonne (his wife). fun fact: tater tot never really had a picky eater phase because of this. Everything he made, she wanted to eat it. even if it looked strange.

The way the line of power works is that Tater tot inherits her royal rights from her mother, not her father. her father married into the family. So him stepping down as king had less of an impact. I think as far as his influence goes, it's the fact that he's the king of the ruler, so people do a lot of bootlicking to get in his good graces. In that, they hope he puts in a good word for them when speaking to his daughter.

Tater tot's mother, however takes a more active role in her life.

Their dynamic is more similar to Marine Antoinette and Maria Theresa... if you're not a history nut like me, she's basically getting hounded by her mother for stuff. She's retired in name only lol.

Tater tot's mother spends her time consolidating power for her daughter & trying to convince her to marry powerful men. She often talks to her daughter about what's happening in other empires, what she should do, what her role is and how she needs to get married and have a child soon. Tater tot has begun avoiding her mother because of this & their general lack of relationship.

When Sonne isn't busy harassing other people or her daughter, she's either showing off her wealth, busy impressing other people and flaunting her status, spending time with her husband, going on vacations and oddly enough, gardening.

Tater tot resents gardening as a concept and has trouble understanding why. Well here's why:

Sonne treats the plants she grows better than she does her actual kid. And Tater tot is jealous of the affection flowers get from her mother. It pisses her off to the point where she can't even be around her when she's gardening.

Tater tot's dad is an octopus actually! I'm playing around with the idea of giving him multiple arms to communicate that point. (its so hard to draw multiple arms like actually) (and also the little white bits under the curves of 'hair' I drew). I based him off of this

I'm still trying to figure out how to get his octo-elements while keeping it easy for me to draw ☠️

It's funny because I imagine that when tater tot was really little, he would he'd be holding her above his head as he cooked b/c she would cry when he put her down.

YAYAYAYYA I LOVE OC QUESTIONS!! i dont get many of these!

okay, let's start with Tater tot:

Tater tot:

Tater tot is not an only child. I haven't introduced any of her siblings to the plot because it's kinda irrelevant and I don't want to overcrowd the cast.

She's also half-earthling (her father is british, actually. He met her mother the same way Tater tot and Tobias met). Because of this, she has a strong amount of european ancestry that she doesn't know about.

Tater tot is also allergic to flowers, so if anyone presents her with them she will either swell up or start sneezing.

Tobias:

Tobias's dad is a paranoid schitzophrenic. Though, because they live in a rural area where that stuff is kinda unheard of & seen as some sort of supernatural thing, either everyone just writes him off as crazy or possessed.

Tobias also carries some mindsets and ideals from living in that environment (traditional, conservative in some areas), but he prides himself on finding logical explanations to stuff. So, he doesn't really believe in spirits or ghosts, and thinks people are just paranoid. He used to be the "Um, actually ☝️" kid in highschool. You can imagine how that went.

Tobias, for a long time could not grow a beard. It used to grow in patches, which made him feel pretty insecure about his appearance. However, when he hit like 22 he ended up having to shave everyday just to look presentable for work.

Diane:

Diane is a party girl. I tried to communicate that in her design but idk if it worked ☠️.

Coming from a strict household, with many kids but little attention paid to her at all, she developed a rebellious spirit. It's funny because she's naturally very docile and probably would've been pretty agreeable if she weren't constantly overlooked. At first, it started as a way to get back at her parents for being neglectful or putting too many restrictions on her, but then she became addicted to thrill-seeking and doing everything she wasn't supposed to do.

Diane's family actually is in the mafia, and she's aware of her familial ties to it. Her mom was actually the head honcho of the business but manipulated her father into joining them because she knew she would maintain more control if she was operating through a man. Naturally, her dad is also very quiet and agreeable which is how he ended up in that circumstance in the first place. The whole life of crime thing was pushed onto her because unbeknownst to her, she was his favorite child and he did want her to take it over, seeing her personality and how headstrong she was. By the time this happened, Dema had already left for the army because she could see that kind of manipulation a mile away, and tried to convince Diane to leave too. Diane stayed because she felt obligated to take care of her parents as the rest of their brothers (except for like one or two) acted like they didn't exist.

Diane had been groomed to take part in that family business, and it kind of messed her head up a little. Like... you're finally getting the attention you crave but also it's only because you need to carry on an evil legacy?

So, Diane kind of just vanished from their life. Her parents don't know whether she's alive or dead, and they have limited contact with Dema. Diane has the job she has because she just so happened to catch Tater tot during one of her crashes on earth. Tater tot saw potential in her, even when Diane didn't. And she (tater) put two and two together and figured they were related. If Dema was a great worker, then Diane should be one too right? Not to mentioned, they'd been close in the past. so she offered her a way of escape.

Before this, Diane had been working at a hostess club as a, well, hostess, trying to make ends meet. Tater tot observed her managerial skills and felt she'd be better somewhere else (with better pay of course).

As to why tater tot was in that kind of place in the first place? she was hungry and she wandered in there, not knowing what it was.

It's not so much as Diane regrets her job, she doesn't regret doing what she had to do to survive. It's moreso she's afraid of the judgement she'll face if that ever came to light, especially in such an uppity environment.

Anyways, enough with the sad stuff. Diane's been to rehab like 3 times and has been about 4-5 years clean at the time of the actual story. She doesn't drink, smoke or do any kind of substances.

Diane is scared of marriage. She likes the concept but is afraid of it falling apart because of the way she perceives herself. She feels like she'd end up driving the other person away and that she is utterly unlovable.

Diane only talks to her eldest brother & Dema, her little sister. She specifically requested that they don't mention anything about her to her parents because she's afraid they'll come in and ruin everything.

*Diane is not in the political sphere at all. She only works in an HR setting.

Diane is currently struggling to find her purpose in life and shifts between "it's too late for me" or "I still have time".
