​The door to the trailer suddenly swung open to reveal Jon, startling her. When he saw what she was doing, he smirked. “Well, if you wanted some privacy to play with my instrument, all you had to do was ask, Princess.”

Just like clockwork, her cheeks were instantly red. She would have had a witty comeback, had she not been completely distracted by how the golden light of the evening sun was hitting the side of Jon’s face, making him look like a sculpture come to life. Gods, what was wrong with her?

“I see I’ve rendered you speechless,” he chuckled as he stepped inside, pulling the door shut behind him—and mercifully extinguishing the light and rendering him as the ordinary man that he was. An extraordinarily handsome ordinary man.

Dany rolled her eyes and set his guitar aside. “Or your innuendo was so weak it didn’t even deserve a comeback.” Jon didn’t seem to buy it. “Anyway, if you’re done sucking face with Arianne, we can go.” Seven hells, why did she say that? She quickly tried to brush by it. “I’m not sure if the paps are still waiting. Though, I suppose photos of me arriving at the studio should be more than enough, right?”

Jon wasn’t easily distracted, however. His eyebrows shot up. “Sucking face?” Cocking his head, he grinned at her. “Careful now, a bloke might start to think you’re jealous.”

Dany glared at him. “I’m not jealous. I don’t think anyone would enjoy watching their boyfriend—fake boyfriend—kiss someone else—even if it’s just a job. It’s…awkward.” There, that was a safe enough word to describe her feelings. She folded her arms over her chest. “And, anyway, it would probably look odd if I didn’t seem bothered by it at all, right?”

“Uh huh. So, you were just playing the part,” he said dubiously.

“Exactly. But maybe next time you could give me a heads up as to what I’m going to be walking into?”

The khal had commanded the handmaid Irri to teach Dany to ride in the Dothraki fashion, but it was the filly who was her real teacher. The horse seemed to know her moods, as if they shared a single mind. With every passing day, Dany felt surer in her seat. The Dothraki were a hard and unsentimental people, and it was not their custom to name their animals, so Dany thought of her only as the silver. She had never loved anything so much.
