ˊ＊—⨳—＊` Sam occasionally tutored when asked by a teacher, but she wouldn't say it was something she was particularly good at. So when Ms. Grant asked her to tutor one of her classmates, well, the blonde really couldn't say no. She wasn't by any means the best student in the school, hell, it seemed like so many people were competing for Valedictorian. But Sam was the best in science, and that was something to be said.

——— The student in question was Nathan Prescott. Not particularly in her social circle. Hell, they didn't really even cross paths outside of the couple classes they shared. He gave off a trust-fund vibe that Sam was used to with her friends back home, but he was weirdly.... Mysterious was the closest word that she could think of. Acerbic was another.

——— They were a few sessions into tutoring for chemistry which was, admittedly, hard. She couldn't blame Nathan for struggling. "Yeah! We covered it very briefly. I believe it's actually going to be talked about next week, so, getting ahead of the game a bit will be helpful," she answered, straightening her notes that she had from the previous class.

——— His frustrations voiced aloud caused her to give him a sideways glance before a sympathetic smile appeared on her features. "Well, I'm fairly certain that's not actually allowed on her end," Sam stated. "You have to give a reason, and she knows you're at least trying."

He did not give a shit about school. Truthfully, Nathan knew his future was already decided. It didn't matter what dreams he had, his father would pick his path. Nathan would probably get shipped off to some college and either totally burn out or scrape by and come back for the family business. Either way, he'd end up here. There was no escape. Even if he liked art more than almost anything else.

Between all the bullshit he normally dealt with and his increasing usage of drugs and alcohol during his daily life, his grades weren't the best they had ever been. How could he even think about shit like school? It was only a matter of time before his father started asking questions. And that never led to anything good.

So now, he's at the library with Sam Giddings. She was smart, and well, the entire package. He had floated the idea of her joining the Vortex Club, but it didn't seem like she was super interested. It looked good on your record. And it was also a good time. Well, usually.

"I think I remember this from class." He can't even look at the textbook without his head pounding with pain. Probably because he hadn't slept at all. But how could he? "Well, maybe." He usually didn't pay attention in class. He knew Ms Grant had it out for him, so why bother? She actually went to the principal about him before. Which led to him being sent to the dorms for the day. Whatever. He had apologized but it didn't matter.

"Ms Grant is probably gonna flunk me even if I do well. She hates me."

But final for him, or final for her- That's what she was wondering. Her fingers ran over the bracelet, studying the simple braid and snap closure, committing it to memory. Committing everything within the last few days to memory. Slowly, her gaze lifted to meet his and she saw Stza's face and how serious he looked. "That sounded like a goodbye," she answered with a faint laugh to try and lighten the air. Good luck charm. Thoughts paused on that for a moment as she read into it further that was likely intended. Sam excelled at that, truthfully. The blonde could look calm and serene on the outside, but mind worked a mile a minute in 100 different angles as she analyzed everything. "Or does this mean 'Come back'?"
