so i think that after ava 5 yellow doesn’t really feel like her body is her own you know? like i think when she got back in alan’s pc she went over every square inch of her body with a measuring tape to check that it was hers because she swears to god that it doesn’t fit quite right, that somehow, the proportions are off.

this brain, this hand this skull this heart, are they hers? they don’t feel like hers. they feel stolen, made, artificial somehow, although she knows that the code that makes her body is just the same as any other, that all the ones and zeros and pixels and dots are all the same in the end, still her skin does not seem to sit on her flesh as it should. it feels heavy, too tight, too cold, too numb.

she pinches the flesh that stretches across the space between her index and her thumb and thinks, is this right? she slides the lid of her right eye up until her eye is wide open and thinks, is this right? she traces a line from her wrist to her elbow as if there were a seam there, up her arm to her shoulder, then up the back of her neck to her brain, and thinks, is this right?

it doesn’t feel right, but it is. it must be. yellow has no physical evidence that something is wrong, she measured, and therefore it must follow that nothing is wrong.

but it doesn’t feel like her. no, it feels like her heart stopped 12 hours, 17 minutes ago, and she died, and she’s stayed dead. she feels like she is piloting a pile of pixels around from beyond the grave. she feels numb all over, half out of her body, half out of her mind. yellow feels like maybe this heart that she has now isn’t beating, she feels like she is filled with dust.

yellow bends her fingers closed one by one into a familiar fist, then opens it again, then closes it. does she hold her ground like she should? is this her now? can she be dragged back to earth yet?

her flesh is cold and there is a building buzzing pressure at the base of her skull and her eyes cannot seem to focus right. yellow does not know how she is alive, or if she is alive at all.

it is late. yellow turns over, and tries to sleep.
