The design of the Roone Arledge Auditorium and Cinema Building on Columbia University’s campus allows visitors to move around the perimeter of the atrium through a combination of ramps and stairs. Programmatic areas branch out from the ramps and include large classroom areas and study alcoves. The two audio bites uploaded for this building include sound sampled from a study alcove area on the third floor and one from the atrium area of the building. The low ceilings and enclosed space of the study alcove allow it be semi-insulated from the busy audio environment of the main atrium.

The Joseph D. Jamail Lecture Hall at Columbia School of Journalism by LTL Architects, a recently refurbished space with the introduction of a new ceiling infrastructure. Apart from hosting lighting and air conditioning devices, the structure built of recycled felt modules has been designed to increase the sound performance. The acoustic interaction has been improved through reducing reverberation time thanks to the felt modules, while the cavern-like shape orients the sound from the speaker to the audience.

Located within Huntington Gardens, the Orbit Pavilion is an outdoor sculpture and architectural installation. A multi-channel sound system projects a three dimensional sonic map of the orbits of satellites within the shell-shaped metal structure. The structure both shields the interior from outside noise and reflects sound from within to the center of the room. While reading more about the installation, I found that the three dimensional audio was produced in the Arup Soundlab. https://vimeo.com/190270237

An audio recording studying the passage of morning commuters creating noise through their collective movements which is superimposed over unique contextual sounds and altered through the multiple acoustic environments experienced.
0:00 to 2:15: The World Trade Center PATH platform.

The entryway to Whittier Hall on Amsterdam Avenue.
Not fully separated from the street, the space is middle zone between the exterior and the interior of the building. Traffic noise from the outside could be heard, but meanwhile, the space could also generate echos which are more often heard in fully enclosed interior spaces.
