i can't read hotd fics that act like laena marrying viserys instead of alicent fixes anything because first of all, laena's going to end up in the exact same position as alicent no matter if viserys waits for her to grow up or not, and second of all, like hell the velaryons would side with rhaenyra over their own daughter with her own kids in line for the throne

what’s upsetting to me about making house velaryon black is that the writers seem to go out of their way to bend all these characters to rhaenyra.
laena’s entire character exists to show us that daemon is not happy if he is not with rhaenyra. “we were happy enough” in response to being asked if he loved laena. even laena’s death. it’s tragic, it’s horrifying, and based on the direction the show is going, it will likely be used to uplift rhaenyra. “i want to die a dragonrider’s death” like hello? and even her funeral is used for rhaenyra to have sex with daemon.
vaemond, the only velaryon who does not try to empower rhaenyra, was horrifically decapitated by daemon (cowardly i may add, given how he struck this man from behind) for speaking the truth. the writers really had him call rhaenyra a whore to distract us from the fact he is literally right. her sons have no direct connection to house velaryon.
baela is used to prop rhaenyra up at every possible chance. she is blood and fire, but she was raised at high tide for years. nearly every scene she has, she is doing whatever rhaenyra wants, or speaking highly of her to another character (usually jace).
rhaena is forced to become a glorified babysitter to rhaenyra’s kids. that scene was odd because of the complete lack of warmth and affection that rhaenyra supposedly has for her step-daughters.
like why? what was the point? these actresses and actors are amazing and their characters do not get the justice they deserve. they deserve better than being used to prop up the feminist white savior who comes from a long line of people who genuinely believe they are truly above everyone else because of their heritage.

me personally i will never forget how rhaenys called out alicent for subjecting herself to the will of men. supposedly. and i say supposedly because she did the exact same thing! she was willing to give her twelve year old daughter to her much older cousin because her husband demanded it. she let her son, her only living child, marry into house targaryen, knowing how dangerous it was (it supposedly cost him his life). she supported rhaenyra’s claim in honor of her husband, while under the impression that rhaenyra had a hand in said son’s death (and her anger about it is just never bought up? to rhaenyra nor daemon). her husband constantly overstepped himself and was willing to do anything to get more power (including essentially leaving his children to the wolves), while justifying it as him wanting to avenge rhaenys’ claim. while rhaenys herself made peace with the crown being passed over her!
her, of all people, telling alicent (who was a child bride whose children through marital rape) literally anything about the topic is so hypocritical and weird. but it’s not meant to be hypocritical and weird. it’s meant to be this girlboss, feminist moment that fans, for some reason, gladly ate up without thinking about it for more than a second. it didn’t make sense for rhaenys’ character but the writers didn’t care. in that moment, she was nothing more than a self-insert for the writers to loudly and annoyingly voice their personal opinions into the show.
it’s so fucking weird and i haven’t liked rhaenys since. you deserve better writing girl.

I’m about to get called a “big old mean internalized misogynist” for dragging Sara Hess’s public statements again but the contrast between saying “a character being fat is just negative biased propaganda against them” …VS… GRRM’s recent statement where he said being “fat is not offensive” publicly… couldn’t be more chef’s kiss for me.

To everyone saying ‘oh George should of solved this behind closed doors’ or ‘oh he should shut up and write winds’
I need you to listen closely. This is obviously his last resort. HBO and Condal have stopped listening to him. This is how he’s keeping influence over HIS work. This is HIS story. He is more than justified to be mad they’re changing it. This is his last attempt to get influence back over his work. He’s showing HBO he won’t be quiet anymore. They can’t walk over him like they did with GOT.
He’s also allowed to work on two things at once.

The framing of Rhaen*ra wanting to fly into battle on Dragon back as heroic, but Aegon wanting to fly to battle being framed as silly and selfish
Rhaen*ra is seen as wronged for being denied this but Aegon is seen as humbled or "put in his place"

“Still you defend him!” is a crazy line to be thrown when from rhaenyra’s pov the only fault aegon has committed is ascending the throne. i guess it’s just so outrageous to her that anyone would dare live without abiding by her wishes
