“average person eats 3 spiders a year” factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Odysseus crew: *watching him from the afterlife*
Elpenor: Look, he's hunting down the suitors! He's gonna kill them all!
Eurylochus: Maybe you were right, Polites. Violence has only lead to more violence. Perhaps the Captain would be better off showing mercy before he goes too far.
Polites: Are you fucking kidding me?! You heard what they were planning to do to Penelope and their son!! He should butcher every one of them!!!

it's been said before, but leverage season two really is a masterclass of writing around a lead actress' pregnancy. they knew they'd have to give her time off for maternity leave, so they set up a character development plot line near the start of the season which was a natural direction for the character to go based on how she'd already been written. then for the first several episodes leading up to her leave, film her from the chest up or show her back, with only some reliance on loose shirts and large jackets. have her character's development/crisis require her to take time off for herself, but write small scenes that can easily be pre-recorded, so she's never actually gone from the show. then let her return.
it's a great combination of understanding the character, being able to plan good plots ahead of the time, and not being so misogynistic that you resent actors for getting pregnant.

That’s a fair point. It’d be nice to assume that some of them didn’t know about what would happen to the kids, but you’re right it is important to acknowledge that even doing what they did to the adults was horrible. And she did seem kinda high and mighty once she became queen(referring of course to Cinderella because that seemed unclear to me reading the post, but I didn’t want to reword it)
...You know, Cinderella in Rise of Red is a real hypocrite! Her line, "I won't kneel to a tyrant." Okay, so you won't kneel to a tyrant in your own words.
But you WILL kneel to a CHILD INPRISONER AND DIRECT/INDIRECT CHILD KILLER for over thirty years? (beast)
Okay then.

To be fair that could be said for all of the royals. But I do have to argue, because I have a lot of feelings about this, that it could also be said for none of them. Correct me if I’m wrong, but we don’t exactly get an idea of the power each royal wields in the movies. We know that there is a High King over all of them and the others rule their kingdoms like governors, but we don’t know what they do outside of that. For all we know Cinderella has been championing the cause of the VKs for years before Ben brings them over. Maybe she in particular hasn’t been, but I find it highly probable that at least some of the royals we campaigning to bring the VKs over since they were discovered. Rapunzel was raised by a villain herself and Flynn Ryder and Aladdin both used to be thieves. We also don’t know how much each kingdom knows about the isle of the lost. It is possible that the details are kept to the king alone. That being said maybe all of the royals are aware of the conditions there. I’ve read a lot of fics where some royals were trying to bring children over from the isle king before Ben made his proclamation, but didn’t have the power. The royals in those fics varied (usually on the authors personal preference), but I’ve always liked that more than, “every single hero sat on their ass and did nothing while children suffered”, it allows for more nuance.
All that to say, maybe Cinderella was aware of it. Of everything that happened to the kids, I’ve certainly read fics where she was (I’d recommend one to you, but it is very forgiving of Audrey and centers around her as a main character, so I don’t think you’d like it). Or maybe she’s not. It is your AU and you get to make that ultimate decision.
(It is also important to note my personal bias in this post, as Cinderella was one of my favorite princesses growing up and I loved her and Bridget’s friendship in the movie, even if we didn’t get to see that much of it, and I want them to have a chance to rekindle that. It would probably have to start with an apology from Cinderella along the lines of, “I had no idea you and Hook had kids and ever since I found out I’ve been fighting to get them off the isle and back to you. That doesn’t mean anything because I still hurt you and understand if you no longer wish to be my friend, but I wish your family all the best” or something.)
...You know, Cinderella in Rise of Red is a real hypocrite! Her line, "I won't kneel to a tyrant." Okay, so you won't kneel to a tyrant in your own words.
But you WILL kneel to a CHILD INPRISONER AND DIRECT/INDIRECT CHILD KILLER for over thirty years? (beast)

A group of rough looking boys walked past me today and all I heard of their conversation was “he’s got that anxiety disorder bro so I went with him so he’d be more comfortable” and it made me realise the world isn’t all that bad

a while ago I read this sci-fi short story from the 50s where a guy is kidnapped and interrogated by aliens using a very sophisticated lie detector, but he realizes that the lie detector works off technical truth, and with some careful phrasing and misdirection, he manages to make them believe that humans are a race of immortal, overpowered, omniscient telepathic beings. and it works.
my favorite part is when he tells them that humans are "capable of transportation without the aid of spaceships or any vehicles, just by using mental power to control physical matter". it's true, we can. it's called walking.

Rewatching the Nigerian Job for the umpteenth time and realized something:
Nate says, “If a companies stock price fall 10-15% in one day and you see it coming, you sell short make a lot of money.”
Which first time watching seems like an innocuous detail, a part of the taunt. And to Nate it was. It was rubbing in that he was smarter than Dubenich, that he succeeded in tricking him.
But if you remember in the 15 Minutes Job Latimer reveals that he had been profiting off of the Leverage crew for years, selling short on their targets. This was of course suggested to him by Victor Dubenich.
Nate was the person who gave Dubenich the idea. Dubenich’s entire scheme was based off one throwaway line from Nate’s first taunt.
