Knowledge:
I have learnt so many different things in my first semester of further education. One major thing that I have learnt in uni is organization, being organized in uni helps you out tremendously, being organized helps you be on top of assessments and also helps you plan out upcoming assessments. I was surprised about how helpful the lectures are in further education, I thought that they were going to be very tough and that they weren’t going to be supportive, but the lectures are very friendly and easy to approach if we ever have problems with anything.
Skills:
I have learned a lot of skills during my first semester of university, such as there are a lot of online tools to help to with referencing and even just to improve your language in your essay. One skill that has helped is the Holmeslgen library I have learnt to research and find peer reviewed articles to help me find information about certain topics and to construct my essay to around that information. Another skill that I have learnt but not quite mastered is referencing, when I came into university nobody warned me about referencing and how much of a pain it can be to reference especially if you don’t reference while you’re going it can be very painful. Another skill that I have learnt is probably knowing how to structure an introduction to an essay properly by adding the correct things in.
Attitudes/Behaviors:
I personally think that my attitude to work has improved since starting university, this might be because I am studying something that I am passionate and making a successful career out of it. My attitude to work was not the best I used to think of doing work was the worst and a waste of time and I thought it was pointless, but now I enjoy doing assignments and studying as it motivates me to work and achieve the best I can.

I think I need to improve on bit of everything, one major thing is grammar, punctuation and the flow of the essay or other assignments I am working on. So far, I think have done quite good In keeping up with the assignments and submitting it on time which is actually quite surprising for me. I think I have done quite well on hitting the word limit on some essays, I thought 1500 was a lot of words coming into university and I was worried that I may fail due to not hitting the word count but all the tools that I have accessed to has helped me to find information to hit the word count required. At this stage of the semester I thought I would be drowning in assignments but I have actually been doing well, the level of stress has definitely increased and I am starting to freak about exams and how much we need to revise or what happens if we fail the exam do we still pass, so I am starting to feel quite anxious about the end of semester.

The comments that I received for the group presentation I thought they were going to be worse, but our group did quite well for our first group presentation in university. I took these comments seriously because I want to improve my presentation skills so I can be better suited for when I enter the sporting industry. I believe that from other group presentation in other classes I have significantly improved my skills for presenting, one way I have improved is taking more speaking roles to develop my presenting skills. I personally believe that my prestation skills will get better by the time I finish my further education. I think we should have started the power point earlier, so we could’ve done more research to gain more information and another reason why we should’ve started earlier is because our visuals were not as good as other group and that decreased our marks. The rubric shows that our flow of the presentation was good although the comments did state that Declan did do more of the speaking when should’ve been balanced out.

Balancing uni workload and other interests was difficult for me at first, but then after I used the RMIT assignment planner to plan out what days I was going to do different assignments instead of focusing on one each time. I learnt that the more time you spend on an assignment equals the quality of your assignment. One issue that I’ve dealt with is a power outage at my home that caused me to get a extension which I was not happy about my own little goal was not to have an extension in my first year. Personally, for me I think having a little 1-week break made me bit unmotivated especially when I had my own routine and system going which was going well, after that break momentum was not the same, it is going to take me bit of time to gain that momentum again. I believe that my organizational skills are slowly improving by using tools that are available to me. Other strategies I should use is to try finish the assignment the day before it is supposed to be submitted therefore, I do not run the risk of forgetting to submit an assignment.

This group presentation was the first group presentation we have done with each other, and as a whole class we were getting to know each other so Declan Nikhil and I the chemistry within our group was developing. I personally believe that our motivation as a group was, we did not want to fail each other on our first assignment. As a group I think we were communicating well because we had a group made so we can message each other and help each other, and we created a google slides so we can do the work any time. the people who were grading our presentation did mention that we used our phone for cue cards, and they did say we were looking down and which they implied we cannot project our voices. From now on I will not use my phone as cue cards.

What did I find out about university? My first week at uni I was very anxious and was feeling overwhelmed, I wondered how I was going to balance out the workload and my job, and how I was going to submit assignments on time. I also thought that my teachers were going to be very harsh and quite strict, but they are quite supportive and very friendly. I am glad that we did not have to do uni from home otherwise I would not have made friends with the people in my classes, and it's great that we support each other and help each other out with assignments. I intend to approach the rest of the year by being more organized capitalize on the learning tools that Holmeslgen provide for me to make me organized and help me succeed more with my further education to reach the goals that I have set for myself and ultimately help me achieve getting my dream job in the sporting industry. One tool I have used is an assessment map, the point of this is to see when all my assignments are due for the first semester to help me get ahead of these assignments, it's also a great way to stay organized.
