Remediating for 280 characters
URL: https://twitter.com/abicynia14
During my experience on Twitter I identified the common hashtags related to my topic which is Photography. There are various types of photography thus different hashtags are being used here, but the most popular one I found are; #Photography #PortraitPhotography, #lens, #Photooftheday, #travel, #food or #nature. Photographers will usually also put their camera models such as #Nikon or their specialisation for example; #Fashionphotography, or #wildlifephotography. Through those hashtags, we can easily differentiate them. As shown in Figure 6, Travelling is mostly associated with photography and is very popular nowadays, as people love to share their travel experience through pictures.
Travel and Photography Hashtags
We can also developed on food photography is also really common nowadays on social media. It can be described as a trend as people love to share their dishes at the restaurant or their home-made food. As stated by Boston-based food and lifestyle photographer Heath Robbins, “Food is life … It connects all of our senses together … and connects people, connecting friends, and moments in time.” (2014)
This is why the photography hashtags can often be followed by the food hashtags. This is also a common marketing strategy for restaurants on Twitter; they will use food photography to make their tweet more appealing and visual to customers.

When I posted a tweet about my favourite picture taken at Shangri-La’s Hotel Mauritius, the hotel, which is really active on social media, liked my tweet immediately. I also
asked people to check out my photography blog but did not get any response from this. However, I have re-tweeted and commented on several photographers’ tweets and people sharing the same interest and they replied and followed me further to this.

My opinions on Twitter are that it is a fast medium when you need to communicate simple and short text such as announcements. An example would be announcing a new blog post accompanied with pictures or a link to the blog. The use of hashtags creates a sort of community as people using the same hashtags are connected to each other. A common example, would be the use of the #Blacklivesmatter which was used to start a movement and which is still frequently used. People, who want to express themselves or to participate in a debate on a particular subject, can use hashtags to share or get a response from those sharing the same interests. When it comes to my topic, there is also a feeling of belonging to the ‘photography community’ on Twitter as people are sharing their photos, their own perceptions or their photography tips and tricks with others.

Creating Generative Value
URL: http://www.bu.edu/bhr/2014/05/01/the-food-photography-trend-a-discussion-of-the-popular-trend-and-tips-on-taking-great-pictures/
It seems that people are more willing than ever to share their lives as a series of photos on the Internet. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram make it easy to share every little detail with our friends and family and even with people we don’t know. We share photos of major life events like graduations and engagements alongside photos of friends and the occasional cute pet photos. (Greenfield, 2014)
One trend that has recently gained momentum is the sharing of food photos. Our newsfeeds are bombarded everyday with everything from photos of homemade waffles to colourful rows of sushi. A quick search for “food” on Instagram or Pinterest will leave you with millions of posts and pictures to sift through and drool over. (Greenfield, 2014) Another common trend on social media when it comes to food photography is Flatlay photos (Fat mum slim, 2016). This is basically placing the food on a flat surface in an aesthetically pleasing way and taking the picture from above. People are very reactive to this kind of photos mainly on Instagram and Pinterest. They usually receive a lot of likes and comments on social platforms.

According to RJMetrics, an eCommerce analytics company, “Food is the fastest growing and most viral category on Pinterest.” There are even apps and websites designed strictly for sharing food photos and experiences. Food-spotting (Wikipedia, 2018) for example is an app, which allows users to search out the very best of a certain dish in their area based on what others have shared, while foodgawker (Foodgawker.com) has thousands of photos and recipes compiled from food blogs and websites inviting site visitors to “feed your eyes.”
Flickr (Flickr.com), a photo sharing website has a “food photography club” where artists and food photo enthusiasts can discuss the latest trends in food photography. Discussions range from lighting to various types of camera lenses.
Food photography is also used as a marketing strategy. Companies use pictures in their advertisings to attract customers’ attention mostly when it comes to the food Industry. There are even some restaurants who encourage their customers to take pictures of their dishes and share them on social media, for example for contests. Restaurants often post their own photos to their Facebook and Twitter pages as well. Some restaurants even have designated social media staff members who maintain and add photos to the restaurant’s social networking accounts to ensure the restaurant has a constant online presence

Narrating Personal Interest
I have always been fascinated by the world of Photography as this is a way of telling stories and expressing your creativity. I realized that my hobby has become my passion when I begin to spend more time and money when it comes to photography. It is all about capturing life and emotions; my emotions and people’s emotions to share them with others so that they can also feel or experience them. I usually spend my free time watching photography tips on YouTube and looking at inspiring, creative work of professionals to improve my skills. There are various opportunities when it comes to photography as you are able to share what you want people to see that is; your own perspectives, or your own interpretation of beauty. For example; the ‘ugly location challenge’ experienced by many famous photographers and Youtubers which basically consists of having a photo shoot in an ugly location and transform this into something visually pleasing.
This is a challenge, I would surely tried since I found it really inspiring and meaningful as it shows that most photographers are able to found beauty everywhere around them.
I also enjoy the post-processing stage that is photo editing or ‘photoshop’ which is an integral part of the digital photography world. This is also where you can express your creativity by upgrading your picture artistically as well as creating your own picture style for example the vintage or black and white style.
Post-processing consists of playing with contrast, colors saturation, exposure, white balance and so on, which I really enjoy.
It is usually viewed as different from reality, fake or “too easy” but in my opinion, it can also be a form of art and requires a lot of creativity and knowledge of the software. This is a learning process and requires a lot of practice to improve your photo editing skills, that’s why I usually spend some time on image-editing software such as Adobe Lightroom CC , trying to lift up my photos.
Moreover, I own an Instagram page where I share pictures about the beauty of the Mauritian culture. This has helped me improve my editing skills and it also allows me to maintain a color theme which reflects an esthetically pleasing feed so that people are more encouraged to visit my page. I have decided to run this page because it basically represents my passion about capturing and sharing memories on the island lifestyle.
In addition, I have the opportunity to engage and collaborate with other photographers, influencers or even companies sharing the same interest and to take a look at their work for more inspiration.

Introducing my topic
Summary
Photography allows us to develop on various aspects such as; the historical part (first human photograph) or the various camera equipment.
It all begins in the 9th century with the use of the camera obscura, which is described by Eva Timothy as, “a dark room or box with a single small hole in one side that let light through.” (2013)
In her explanation, she talks about the evolution of photography and how through many years different people and researchers try to figure out how to take photos. Thus, we are able to compare the traditional photography from the digital one and also to discover the variety of cameras created since the daguerreotype in 1833.
“It’s now estimated that over 380 billion photographs are taken each year. That’s more photographs each day that were taken in the first hundred years after photography was invented.” (Timothy, 2013) This shows how photography has now a great importance in our daily life as it has become more accessible. Moreover, we are mostly all equipped with camera on our mobile phones/smartphones for everyone to instantly capture every moment and share them. However, this makes it difficult to create original photos in a world full of pictures.
Photography is also an art and a passion for a lot of people around the world. According to a photographer’s point of view, it can be described as a form of creation. Flore Zoé declared in a TED Talk conference; I could now create a world, a more beautiful place which made me happy and I could escape in.” (Zoé, 2017) It is interesting to discover the meanings of photography for people or photographers as there’s always a story behind them. Moreover, there are also meanings behind the photograph itself as it usually reflects a story, event or is often associated with our emotions or people’s emotions.

Introducing the camera obscura
Before the invention of Photography, in the 9th century, there was the camera obscura created by the scientist Alhazen. It basically consists of; “a dark room, or box, with a single, small hole in one side that let light through. This would project the image outside into the wall inside.” I have learnt about this in a lesson on ‘ illuminating photography’ by Eva Thimothy and found it interesting to share with you! Can you realise that the birth of photography started with the projection of an image? And now you can simply capture this image, edit it and share it with the world using your phone camera! If you want to learn more about the evolution of photography check out this interesting video which clearly explains it 👇🏻

My avatar

I have chosen this avatar as it reflects my topic and my passion which is photography. This is a picture of me holding my first DSRL camera which has a special meaning to me as it is a gift from my parents. It was taken at Trou aux Cerf at night as I really enjoy night photography which has always been a challenge for me. This also enables me to bring up the best details in the scenery. I have chosen this place as it is really stunning mostly at night when me and my friends usually take a walk to appreciate the panoramic view of Curepipe.

Biography
My name is Ludivine Valere. I live in the south of Mauritius Island. My passions are Photography and fashion. Why photography? It all started when I was in secondary school when my mother offered me my first camera and a year later, I received my first digital camera as I wanted to have more experience in this domain. Now that I’m a university student, still interested in photography, I got a DSLR Nikon Camera that will hopefully help me improve my skills! I’m a person who enjoys originality and seeing things from different perspectives which perhaps have shaped me to become the person I am today.
