DEAN:

“ yeah right, and i’m elvis. ” he scoffed. angels didn’t exist, only in the bedtime story’s his mom used to tell him when he was a child. his mother had always had faith, in god and in his saintly little helpers. she used to tell dean that angels were watching over him, and that they’d protect him from harm, and it had done her no good in the end. no angel had showed up to save her when she had needed it. dean winchester was decidedly not a man of faith, so he didn’t believe any of the bull-crap this guy was spouting. “ respect’s earned, angel-face. and you seem far enough up your own ass that you don’t really need my respect after all. ” he retorted, with a roll of his eyes. “ if i had any useful information, i sure as hell wouldn’t be sharing it with the likes of you, asshat. my brother and i are stuck here just like you, and we’ve got some important crap to be dealing with. just stay out of our way and i’m sure we won’t have a problem. ”

there were many parts of what the man just said that castiel didn’t understand. he very clearly wasn’t elvis, and he didn’t enjoy the imagery of wearing an ass as a hat, nor did he know where dean got such an idea from. what he did know was that just about every other word was extremely irritating, and his anger was evident in his expression. he stepped closer, staring into his eyes with only an inch between them, words forced out through gritted teeth. “ i will say this once more, and once more only, ” he snapped, eyes narrowed into a glare. “ you will respect me. and you will share what you know. in case you haven’t noticed, i’m stuck here as well, and i’m far more capable of handling the situation than you will ever be. so you stay out of my way, and i’ll ensure all issues are resolved as soon as possible. ” what heaven saw in this man was beyond castiel. he was infuriating. “ are we understood? ”

EMMA​:

emma froze as soon as the words left his mouth. abomination. monster. what mother would leave their child unless it was an abomination? a monster? the words rang clear in her head from all those years ago. her eyes were wide as she lost herself in the memory of that place. the foster home that had ruined her. she barely even heard his next words about being an angel and lying. she was already gone. where is your family? huh? the voice wouldn’t stop ringing in her head. she shook her head, covering her ears, her voice gone again. 

castiel watched in utter confusion. this was not the reaction he’d been expecting, and the longer the behaviour went on, the more he began to realise that she hadn’t been lying. it seemed she truly didn’t know. how she didn’t know, he couldn’t fathom, but he was fairly certain this wasn’t how someone who’d been caught in a lie would react. for a moment, he considered simply flying away with a flutter of wings and leaving her to deal with this alone, but something told him he shouldn’t. this woman felt important for a reason. “ um, ” he spoke, feeling extremely awkward and standing completely still. “ are you alright? ”

DEAN·:

dean had never seen the comet before, probably because it only happened once every hundred and fifty years and he was a human in his thirties, and though it wasn’t exactly his usual kind of scene, it seemed as though the entire town of mystic falls was making a big deal out of it, and so it didn’t feel right to give it a miss. it would give him the oppurtunity to socialise with localise and try to make sense of what exactly was going on, and so that was exactly his intention. he smiled over at the person who came over to light his candle, before approaching one of the first people that he saw nearby ; an out of place looking guy, about his age, in a trench coat. almost immediately, he found himself regretting the decision. “ uh.. yeah ? am i supposed to know who you are, or something ? ” furrowed eyebrows and pursed lips displayed his confusion. he had almost certainly never seen this person before in his life, and yet they seemed to know exactly who he was. “ riddled with - who the hell are you ? ” he was intrigued now, slightly, but more than anything he just wanted answers. if this guy was a threat to him or sam then dean could easily take him, judging on appearance and build alone, but he didn’t have any real facts yet. “ you got about five seconds to talk before i start getting pissed. ”

castiel was unimpressed with the threat. important to heaven or not, dean was still a human, and castiel believed he could destroy him in seconds should the need arise. it was almost endearing that he thought he might stand a chance, however. emphasis on almost. not that he would do so. it wouldn’t go over well with the other angels, for obvious reasons, and he would likely only be brought back sooner or later, anyway. “ my name is castiel. i’m an angel of the lord. and you should show me some respect, ” he answered, irritation lacing each word. “ i’ve been sent here to investigate the current issues surrounding this town. we didn’t expect that i would be trapped here as well. if you have any information, now would be the time to provide it. ”

SAM:

Sam whipped around at the sound of his full name, he stumbled backwards a bit as the figure glared at him. “Uhhh, how do you know my name?” He hesitantly asked, unsure if he should be reaching for the knife that was tucked into his sock. “Castiel..” He said, the name feeling oddly familiar on his tongue but he wasn’t sure why. If he thought about it hard enough then he would remember skimming across the angel’s name in the Bible, but that was the furthest thing from his mind right now. “Um, no. I haven’t seen him yet.” 

“ you have a reputation in heaven. but that currently isn’t of import, ” castiel explained briefly, as though the topic wasn’t a big deal in the slightest. to him, it wasn’t, and he didn’t stop to think that it might be to sam. even so, what he’d said was a vast understatement. the brothers didn’t only have a reputation, they had stories, prophecies, of sorts. they were of huge importance. “ i see. have you managed to gather any information on what’s trapping people here in mystic falls? unfortunately, my investigating has fallen short, thus far. ”

a thousand years of existing for an original vampire meant a noticeably extensive bloodline . he liked to prey on the weak , make them stronger , and give them a new outlook on life . to him , every human he had plunged in to the world of immortals , he had been doing them all a favor . in return , most of them remained grateful , becoming useful sources of information that he used to his own advantage . if they were ever to disobey , well , they knew better . 

he was pacing , waiting for one of his informants to return to their rendezvous point with intel on the moonstone . he was growing impatient , having waited a moment too long . it was then that he heard rustling , voices , and some form of a quarrel taking place not too far away . in a blink of an eye , he was already having himself be acknowledged as a player in the scene . a vampire who had fallen victim to the great power of what looked to be a witch … warlock , whatever they liked to call themselves these days . “ impressive , “ he quipped . “ unfortunately , the poor lad was on his way to meet me to deliver some valuable information and now , he’s been rendered immobile . such immense power to knock out one of my bests yet i don’t believe we’ve met . “ the original stepped over the limp body on the floor , placing himself right in front of the other . “ my name is klaus . “ how did that saying go ? keep your friends close and your enemies closer .  

castiel watched as the vampire fell to the floor, eyes burnt out of his skull and body limp and lifeless. he had been purposefully interfering with the angel’s investigation, and cas had quickly grown tired of it. a fight had broken out between them, though it had barely lasted a minute before castiel had pressed his hand to the vampire’s skull and, with a blindingly bright light, it was all over. but now castiel was frustrated; he was no closer to figuring it all out now than he was before, and now he was one lead down. 

the voice of another creature broke the silence, and castiel rolled his eyes. he didn’t need the company of another useless vampire, and he certainly didn’t need his compliments. “ if this was one of your best, your others must be rather unfortunate, ” he quipped back in monotone. “ and if you were expecting him to explain why we’re all trapped here, he wouldn’t have been any help. ” he didn’t know what other ‘ valuable information ’ the creature could’ve given, and that seemed like the logical assumption. “ my name is castiel. i’m an angel of the lord, and i was sent here on a mission from heaven. perhaps you’ll be more useful than your friend here. ”

EMMA·:

emma hadn’t always lived in mystic falls but she had lived there for several years now. since the latest in the long line of foster homes resided in the small town. she had no idea what went bump in the night around her. she didn’t usually get to go out after dark. her foster father was very strict with what she could and couldn’t do. even if she was 18. 

emma had been sitting on a rock, watching the bonfire when she heard someone speak. she looked up and frowned at the cold tone the man spoke to her with, flinching slightly out of habit. “a what?” she asked with a slight squeak, confused. she shook her head, shifting awkwardly under his gaze. “i don’t have one. i’m an orphan.”

castiel didn’t believe a word the young woman said. “ an amazon. all female abominations who reproduce with unsuspecting human males, who’re then brutally murdered by their offspring. you’re monsters, ” he explained. although he was convinced the girl already knew of this, he assumed she was just attempting to play innocent to avoid confrontation. “ i am an angel of the lord. lying to me is foolish, particularly about something i already know the answer to. now i would like a real answer. where is your family? ”

“ is there a particular reason why so many monsters are drawn to mystic falls? ” castiel questioned the stranger -- a nephilim, an abomination -- tone cold and almost threatening. he, himself, wasn’t human, but he hadn’t come here for an intentional long stay. it had been one of his missions, a task from heaven that he needed to fulfil. investigate, they’d said. whatever was happening, it was huge, and it was castiel who was supposed to figure out what. so far, no such luck. and angels weren’t monsters, anyway. “ there’s so many of you in town. ”

“ samuel winchester, ” castiel greeted, voice low and eyes narrowed. heaven hadn’t told him much about the brothers; he wasn’t high enough in the hierarchy to learn the important details. he knew enough, though. enough to know that sam and dean were both incredibly important, and to know their faces when he saw them. “ my name is castiel. i’m an angel of the lord. ” he showed no concern for the crowds of people celebrating around them potentially overhearing. it made no difference to him whether they knew who he was or not. “ i assume you came here with dean. ”

castiel watched in curiosity as the humans around him celebrated, spreading candlelight between them. he wasn’t supposed to get too involved in human affairs ideally, but the alternative was standing around and waiting for a resolution to whatever was keeping everyone here in mystic falls, so he’d decided to attend. his candle was gripped tightly in his hand, and he was stood awkwardly, almost robotically, as he tried to figure out what he was supposed to do. would someone approach him? or was he supposed to approach them? as though to answer his question, a man walked towards him and lit his candle. to his surprise, it was someone heaven was much too familiar with. someone he’d never met before, but who was of great importance. “ dean winchester, ” he stated plainly, holding nothing back. face lit by candlelight, he tilted his head, eyes narrowing in suspicion. the other angels probably wouldn’t enjoy them interacting, whispers of the winchester brothers’ importance echoing in his mind. “ i suppose i shouldn’t be surprised you would be drawn to this town. it’s riddled with inhuman beings. ”

castiel was quickly beginning to realise that mystic falls was infested with monstrous beings. he could take out a handful alone, but not half the town. he’d need backup, ideally, but it would be foolish to bring more angels here, given that he was trapped. there was no point in bringing an entire army of angels if they couldn’t leave. if anything, it would be foolish. they could allow a small number of humans to die at the hands and teeth of the monsters if it meant the angels were free to do more good. the bigger picture was more important. for now, though, castiel was stuck here. 

“ what is an amazon doing in mystic falls alone? ” he asked as he approached the young woman, voice cold and harsh. amazons travelled in groups, never alone. it didn’t make any sense. yet he hadn’t seen any others, so far. plenty of other creatures, but none of this girl’s species. “ where is your family? ”

“ i’m not sure what’s so significant about a frozen rock being visible that it requires a celebration like this, ” castiel spoke to who he assumed was a human next to him, not yet laying his gaze on her, his eyes narrowed and scanning the crowd. humans were a confusing bunch. castiel didn’t understand their customs. why put everything on hold for something they could barely see and that affected them in no knowable way? “ humans can barely comprehend the size of it. they’re minuscule in comparison. yet for you, it’s but a spec in the expanse of the sky. and this is worthy of celebration? ”

Name: Castiel

Nicknames: Cas (please not Cass!), Cassie (though he’s not particularly fond of this one), and the self-hating angel of thursday, just because :)

Age: Honestly? Who knows. He’s as old as creation, and we don’t know when that was in spn lore. He’s had lines like “in all my thousands of years,” though, so we knows he’s at least thousands of years old.

Gender and pronouns: Agender, usually presents as pretty masculine but has also had a female vessel before, so I headcanon that he Doesn’t Really Care. Uses he/him pronouns mostly, but feel free to use any pronouns for him, he’ll accept anything.

Sexuality: Aspec, homoromantic

Species: Angel. if you’d like more information on angels in spn you can find detail on them here. You can also find Cas’ powers here.

Personality: Cas is driven by doing what’s right and his love for his found family. However, he’s also pretty naïve and can be easily manipulated into doing terrible things as long as he believes he’s doing the right thing. He’s determined, a good fighter, and is beginning to find his compassion. He’s also very awkward in social situations, doesn’t tend to understand social cues, etc. Has moments of being extremely soft and cute, but he’s also a complete badass, and can be ruthless when he needs to be. He’s very smart!

HISTORY

You can find Cas’ full canon backstory here but I’ll try to summarise the important stuff as best I can!

For now, he believes he has been working for Heaven for his entire existence. He’s a soldier and little more in his eyes.

Thinks he’s here on a mission from Heaven to investigate what’s going on in the town.
