why were your parents such brick haters. id love it if my child got attached to a brick id go "thats awesome little guy" and we would start playing with the brick together. id create a little home for it and everything. it would become a member of the household

I don't think they were against the brick in concept, I think it was more that they didn't want me sleeping while cuddling it

And I also played with or collected other stuff that I definitely shouldn't have, like pretty shards of coloured glass – so I think they might have seen the brick as associated with other issues with my safety

Especially the refusing to wear shoes thing, I used to be obsessed with climbing trees and running around in the woods barefoot, and the driveway consisted of sharp rocks and I'd walk over that too, I'd even sneak out at night to sleep in bushes and trees with my brick and no sense of self-preservation

So in hindsight I'm not surprised they weren't massive fans of the brick

my theory is dragons kidnap princesses for the same reason they hoard gold and other treasure, which is the perceived value and the bragging rights thereof. however, unlike precious metals and gems, human attractiveness is way more subjective, so you end up with dragons calculating the most valuable princess to nab and getting frustrated when their math doesn't check out...

it has been made very explicit and obvious after the election, but personally I already felt the mask of progressivism fall from tumblr democrats' face when kamala was made the candidate and the US won a few medals in the Olympics, all these people saying shit like "it feels okay to feel patriotic now" or "patriotism at an all time high". the reality of their position of power over minorities overran the nice aesthetics of caring about those annoying brown people in November but it already began to overtake in July. not the first time this has happened in US history, of course

If you start seriously looking into the history of railroads in the global south it's really not hard to become Literally The Joker. The vast majority of them were colonial enterprises, built to bring minerals to ports. Most of the decolonial, and/or vaugely left-wing Developmentalist governments that nationalized their networks ended up facing coups, having those networks run into the ground, and then eventually being privatized when Democracy Won Again (read: the amount of people thrown out of helicopters became a domestic liability.) If it wasn't that, the World Bank mandated privatization, or "open-access" pseudo-privitization, in order to get monetary aid. Since then, over the past ~30 years, many of these networks have come under control of various post-colonial bourgeoisie figures, or western companies primarily associated with mining, and returned to their effective colonial purpose, with most of the goals of running them as a public service completely disregarded.
