Jesse Hausler wrote, “7 Things Every Designer Needs to Know about Accessibility” to try and help designers in making webpages, blogs, articles, etc accessible to every individual. Hausler talks mentions how they are many ways that designers can create something that is still fun and entertaining, while making it accessible to all peoples. Hausler mentions how by making these pieces of “art” can make them more creative. These things that the designers can do to their pieces can make them stand out compared to other pieces.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because it shows that access can be available to anyone if the right actions are taken. This relates to Hausler because in the article it mentions how by making these small changes more people can have access to the designers work.
Hausler goes on to talk about the things that designers should stay away from or try to minimize. He talks about the font and font sizes that you should use. He talks about the colors that you should and should not use.
In “Accessibility guidelines for UX Designers”, Avinash Kaur talks about many of the same things that Hausler talks about. Kaur talks about understanding accessibility and the guidelines that come along with it. She talks about how you need to have empathy and knowing the mentality. She mentions all the individuals who have disabilities and how they are also users of many of these platforms that get information across.
Everyone should have access to whatever they want to be able to view no matter if they are colorblind, deaf, blind, etc. Accessibility is something that needs to be more accessible.

In the video”Dana Boyd on the Spread of Conspiracies and Hate Online” , and the article “Estee Back Ch.2 SUSTAINING CRITICAL LITERACIES IN THE DIGITAL INFORMATION AGE: THE RHETORIC OF SHARING, PROSUMERISM, AND DIGITAL ALGORITHMIC SURVEILLANCE″, they both talk about how social media outlets and search engines are ways that individuals get the information that they are looking for. In the video, Dana Boyd mentioned how Youtube is the main way individuals under 25 get help with things that they are struggling with. Some things that she mentioned that they use it for homework, tying a tie, or to figure out a problem. I found it interesting because I, like any others thought that Google would be the main search engine. Another thing that Dana talks about is  about how small towns or cities become known. She mentioned that after a horrible event happens, people will find ways to put that town or city basically “on the web map”.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because I believe it goes along with the concept of the individuals who create content to put those small towns and cities on the map when something horrible happens here.
In chapter 2 of Estee Beck’s book, it mentions how the social media outlets works with advertising companies to bring ads that would interest the individuals that search for certain things on the interesting. I found this interesting because as I am scrolling through my social media outlets, there are always ads on things that I either search about or for. I always wondered how these social media outlets know things that interest me when I typically do not search for them on the outlet. Estee talks about how there is a range of monitoring systems on the outlets that helps bring the ads to the outlets.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because it shows how a system, which goes with how the advertisers have a system on what ads to show individuals.

Writing Journal 10/2
In the article “ What is Rhetorical about Digital Rhetoric? Perspectives and Definitions of Digital Rhetoric”, the authors talk about how a conference as created for individuals in graduate programs and professors to talk about rhetoric, media, and technology. I find this very interesting because I feel as if these topics are not talked about in detail very much.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because it is not only funny, but it shows a conference setting. Conferences can be used for just about anything that people are interested in.
I found it very interesting on how the authors mentioned that the individuals who were asked to define digital rhetoric had a hard tie coming up with a definition. Digital rhetoric can mean different things for everyone. Some might see it as only online, some might see it only in papers or physical writings. Everyone has their own definitions for just about everything.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because it shows many individuals but they are all different. This goes with the talk about everyone having different definitions of digital rhetoric.
Another thing that stuck out to me was when the authors were talking about the final day of the conference. They moved on to topic of cultural engagements. Again, this can be perceived differently for anyone. The surroundings or people that you are around can persuade you to think a certain way or believe in something.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because it shows how someone can experience different feelings from a certain topic. Which connects to the talk about everyone feeling a certain way about cultural engagement.

Writing Journal 9/27
Writing in Knowledge talked about the science world does not recognize rhetoric. They are saying that if it was not discovered, it is not true or factual. In the science world, everything needs to be proved and one meaning. As for rhetoric, it can means many things. For example, rhetoric can deal with your physical surroundings, people around you , your views, goals, etc. When it comes to science, there is not really any influence on if something is real or not. It is or it is not.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because it ties into the science world and how there is only really a yes or no answer.
In the article , they talk about background. Both science and rhetoric can involve background. For rhetoric, many people have a background of things they like, believe,or follow on social media. In science, there can be information about the topic that they are trying to find out more about. They go together because even on social media, if someone was to come across something that they find interesting, they might want to find out more about it. They can see if it is true or not, just like scientists are doing in the labs that they are performing.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because these two individuals made huge discoveries in science  . It also shows how technology is being used for even just a simple card game.

Writing Journal 9/25
In “On Multimodal Composing” and “Women, Rhetoric, and Politics on Pinterest” , the authors both talk about how the settings that the writer is in influences the way the writing will come across.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because it shows an audience who most likely agree on something and when the author presents their work they need to connect to the audience.
I found it interesting that in the article “Women, Rhetoric , and Politics in Pinterest”, that Pinterest is mainly full of female users. I always thought that males and females both used it to get ideas for projects, recipes, etc. After reading that article went on Pinterest and looked at my followers and the files that I follow and I saw that about 97% of them were females. Also, a majority of the pins that are on the homepage are female or directed towards females.
The creators of Pinterest really thought about the audience that they wanted to attract.
In “On Multimodal Composing”, the authors talk about how individuals writing styles can be influenced by outside sources, audience, etc. I believe this is true because there is definitely different ways that individuals present different types of writing. If someone was writing a formal piece, they would not use language that they might talk to friends or family. They would be more professional. If someone was talking to friends or family members, they might abbreviate words or even use slang.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because not only is it funny, but it shows that peoples personalities can be different depending on who the audience of their writing is.
In conclusion, I learned a lot from the two articles. Pinterest has a majority of female users and that authors base their topics on who the audience is and what the audience believes.

Writing journal 9/20
In todays society, I thought most people are pretty well rounded with technology, but according to Selber ; many people still are confused on how technology works. I feel as if in this generation, older individuals think that we know every little thing about technology but that is not the case. Technology is changing everyday and new settings are upcoming. I found it interesting that many individuals who are brought up throughout their lives with technology are still having questions involving many platforms of technology.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because I believe that individuals are so involved into their technology that they do not know things that are going on around them. If they do not see it through a platform, they might not know about it. many individuals that are in their high school and college years are no longer picking up a physical hard copy of a newspaper. They get all the news information from some sort of platform or app.
Technology is evolving everyday and there will always be questions that are going to be asked about it.
Technology is used in everyday life by basically everyone. Technology issuing a lot more in education. Coming to ESU, most of the professor use technology in some way, even if thy think that they do not. They use powerpoint, online resources, emails, etc.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because not only is it funny but this is how some people can feel when they are using technology that they are not familiar with.
My view of technology has definitely changed from reading only a few chapters of Selber’s work.

Writing Journal 9/6
Primary Care Clinic as Writing Space by Dawn S. Opel and William Hart-Davidson goes into detail about how writing in the medical field is behind of a lot of the other occupations. I agree with them in that sense because of my major being Exercise Science, a lot of the material that we learn is in the medical terms. Many people who are not familiar with these terms can become confused because they will not know what the doctors or nurses are taking about.
Tumblr media
I chose this gif because before taking my major classes, I never really understood what doctors were saying when I went to see them. This is a big problem today because it seems like some doctors or nurses think that you. know what they are talking about when they are explaining something to you.
The authors talk about some doctors do not believe that writing is part of their jobs’, but it is and they do not even realize it. Medical records are a form of writing. They need to get their observations across as clear as possible so that the other individuals that have access to these medical records are able to understand them.
Tumblr media
This gif some shows how doctors or even nurses can present themselves in different ways which can effect how they might explain something in the medical records.
The authors also talk about how the health care providers all might use different types of writing such as ; sticky notes, IPads, or even sending text message to assistants. In some way they are writing but it is not one way all they time.
I feel as if the health care system in a particular setting should all use the same kind of writing methods because then they all can be on the same page
In conclusion, the health care system still has a lot of catching up to do in the writing department for making it easier on themselves and the patients.

Writing Journal 9/4
In both The Department of Writing and Rhetoric (University of Mississippi 2019) and Understanding Rhetoric, they both talk about how there are different modes that a writer can write in. They talk about how somethings are meant to be perceived in a certain way to get certain points across to the readers. The Department of Writing and Rhetoric mentions how multimodal writing makes you “think outside of the box”,by doing this you can put points in your writing that can make the readers think more in depth about a certain topic or thought that you are trying to get across.
Tumblr media
In Understanding Rhetoric , the authors mention ethos, logos, and pathos. They mention these by talking about how authors might use these in their writings. For example, when they talk about ethos; they start to talk about how if they feel a certain way about something that they will most likely use third person pronouns instead of saying I. They also watch how they word certain sentence. It then goes on to logos, for this it says how to give evidence that can make an argument believable. The authors then go into pathos, they mention how the things that authors write about can appeal to the readers’ emotions,
Tumblr media
In conclusion, with reading prompts talk about how writers can use different styles of writing to pull a reader deeper into their work, regardless if they use ethos, logos, or pathos.
