it's a goddamn blaze in the dark, and you started it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you hated the idea, and they promised not to, but when they did anyway, you couldn't stay out of it
pairing: Johnny Sinclair x reader
contains/warnings: swearing, reader being a hypocrite, not proofread by anyone but me, all the I'm no expert writer disclaimers
a/n: I can't stop thinking about how many different ways they could have lived so. also, I don't want to talk about how long it took me to get all the lines. "unrealistic" DON'T CARE!!!!!!! these are the lies I tell myself to sleep at night. little something to read while I work on requests
Tumblr media
"Where are you going?" you asked your father, who was suiting up to go out. Paramedic. You knew he was on call but what could have possibly happened in this town at this time of night? The only thing open were taverns and even a bar brawl never ended in someone serious hurt around here.
"Call out from Beechwood," he told you simply, pulling his clothes on in a rush with no time to chat. "Older man, not your boyfriend, don't worry," he assured you so you wouldn't push. He didn't have time for that. But when did you ever not persist?
"Can I come?" you questioned and he looked at you like you were crazy.
"No, you can't come, y/n. Just because it's on your boyfriend's family's island doesn't mean I can bring my daughter when they've closed all boats in or out for a medical emergency. I'm going now."
Tumblr media
"Gat!" you called out over the sounds of the chopper above and sirens by your side. His head snapped to you running over to him on the dock from the street.
"Y/n! What are you doing here?" he inquired, looking you up and down as you stand before him.
"What are you doing here?" you inquired back as your father grabs packs out of the van.
"Trying to get to Beechwood but they won't let me," Gat told you, gesturing to the water east. You looked back at your father, then to Gat.
"Come with us," you said, following your father down the stairs, and without a question, he does.
Tumblr media
"Cady!"
"Johnny!" you and Gat called out as you trotted up to Clairmont. From a conversation with your father on the boat over here, Gat knew Cady was alright. But that didn't mean he wanted to be absent from the Liars anymore during this. They shot up and ran to you. Arms thrown around you nearly tackle you but you stay upright in their tight embrace.
"Catch us up," Gat quizzed and you got the run down as you walked back into Clairmont.
Johnny was clinging to you like never before walking. Arm linked and hands holding yours between both of his, fingers interlinked. He pressed a kiss to your hair then whispered in your ear.
"Thank you for coming," and you didn't know why it had so much emotion.
Tumblr media
You watched with a grin, not able to help it, feasting your eyes on Johnny lip syncing into one of Tipper's beloved, prize, expensive, ivory elephants as he danced around in his white dress shirt and boxers, Old Time Rock & Roll by Bob Seger playing from the record player. You had come in because you heard it playing but hid behind the wall as you saw Johnny. 'Oh my god, he's doing the whole Tom Cruise thing' you thought, hand covering your mouth keeping back your giggles. It was the performance of a lifetime; you had to give him that. Until his foot slipped and the ivory elephant hit the floor, cracking apart.
"Oh fuck!" Johnny yelped as you, Cadence, and Gat ran in. "Shit, shit."
"The moms are going to kill you," Cadence voiced in utter shock at the damage. You'd never seen someone fidgeting like they had sweaty palms more in your life than Johnny on the floor right now. Gat seemed speechless. Mouth opening and closing as he failed for words. In the same position as you.
"It was an accident," Johnny weakly defended himself, which you found amusing.
"Those things cost like a hundred grand each," Gat reminded him before Mirren closed the door behind her.
"Fuck it," she announced before pushing the other one off the pillar it was displayed on, making you and Cadence shriek, unable to stop it for breaking.
"My god!"
"Mirren!" Cadence and you scolded.
"What?" she asked through a chuckle. "That shit doesn't matter- Why are you guys all looking at me like that?" Your hands covering your mouth were now from Mirren's hair change. It was short. You all burst out laughing. "Come on! It's not like we were gonna sell that on the black market and save a starving family. We barely know how to get on the dark web."
"Your hair, Mirren," Cadence finally spoke.
"It looks awesome," Gat remarked.
"I know, I know, I said that," Johnny notes. You ruffle his hair from standing beside him.
"I'm sure you did, no need to sound so desperate," you teased in a whisper, making him glare at you with no heat.
"Thank you, it's symbolic!" Mirren declared, "like those dumb elephants are."
"We're gonna be grounded till graduation," Johnny dramatically stated. The phone rang making Cadence gasp.
"Oh, my god, Granddad," Cadence remembered, moving swiftly.
"Okay," Johnny exhaled.
"Pants, Jonathan," Gat lambasted Johnny.
"Yeah, I know!" Johnny moaned, tugging them off the chair as everyone exited the dining room.
"I thought I should let you know I enjoyed it," you playfully informed him as he stood back up.
"Yeah?" he questioned, clearly intrigued as he pulled his pants back on.
"Yeah, like my own, better, Tom Cruise," you commented, wide smile on your mouth as you moved closer.
"Out of Risky Business?" he asked. You nodded, eyes on his lips
"I was why you watched that movie-" Johnny mentioned, faces mere inches from each other.
"I'm trying to kiss you, stop talking!" you told him off through a giggle.
"Oh!" he realised, finally taking the hint. His hands within an instant were under your thigh and supporting your back as he dipped you, making you yelp before his lips met yours and your hands raked into his hair. "How's this for a kiss?" he smugly questioned.
"Shut up," you mumbled through a suppressed laugh.
Tumblr media
You watched the will burn as kindling, zoned out of the conversation at the warmth on your face from the fire and Johnny's arm around you. Tomorrow could be hell, but right now was amazing.
"What if we made...a mess so big...only a Sinclair could clean it up?" Cadence proposed. You looked over to her with furrowed brows. "What if all the petty material things that tore our family apart were just gone? Just like that."
"Okay, I think Cady's the cult leader," Gat joked, making Mirren giggle.
"I'm serious. I mean, Clairmont is built on a foundation of hate," Cadence delineates and you could tell Gat was proud, head tipped down with a smile. "We could tear it down. Teach Harris and the moms the ultimate lesson."
"What did you have in mind?" Johnny questions and you couldn't believe he was entertaining this. But you could also smell the whiskey on his breath.
"We could burn it to the fucking ground," Cadence suggested and you could help but laugh.
"Could you imagine?!" Johnny questioned.
"I could imagine the moms' faces," Mirren replied through laughter.
"Guys, I mean it! Clairmont's just a pile of trophies," Cadence said.
"Trophies won with a bullshit, unfair advantage," Johnny agreed.
"Yeah, it's basically the seat of the patriarchy," Mirren observed. You and Gat look hopelessly across from each other. There's no way they'd actually do this, right?
"Yeah, with Harris at the head of the table," Johnny added.
"Right! so if it was all gone, we'd have to start over. Maybe, they'd stop. Maybe we'd be a family again. It'd be like a purification. I mean, things can't get any worse, right?" Cadence rambled. She was a rambling drunk.
"Gaattt, this is usually where you chime in as the voice of reason," Johnny half joking reminded the boy just as silent as you. You shot him a look to say something. Anything against this.
"it's the Sinclair house, I don't get a say," Gat bowed out. You couldn't believe him. After months of advocacy and speaking out about injustices and arguing with Cadence over her entitlement, when there was a chance to say something, actually do something, he avoided the conversation. "Well, you guys know I'm not even going to be welcome here anymore," he tried to reason his lack of a voice. What a coward.
"Well, that's exactly why we have to do something. They're tearing each other apart, and us along with them. Look, they need to learn," Cadence decided. You could see she was all in on this and you just couldn't say anything. How could you vocalise how idiotic you found this with starting a fight with a drunk Cadence and a measly Gat who'd come to her defence?
"mm-mm, they'll punish us and send us to some boarding school in the Swiss alps," Mirren pushed back. Finally, someone pointed out a hole in Cadence's lack of a plan.
"No! we are so sorry that we overflowed the dishwasher and we swiped the good whiskey then we made s'mores and watched movies at Cuddledown. We watched Ferris Bueller and Sixth Sense for Johnny and then we fell asleep! and we smelt the smoke too late," Cady spit balled. You were in awe at the levels of stupidity that had them thinking this was a good plan.
"And no one would believe us but it wouldn't matter-" Johnny started as he stood up, disrupting your headrest.
"Becausseee"
"People might talk!"
"Yes!"
"NO!" you stood up and shouted. "I'm appalled with all of you!" you scolded. They stood silently. "How you at all think this is a good plan?! You're not arsonists! You're privileged teenagers who have neglected to think about that fact that burning down Clairmont won't do shit! 'Oh yeah, lets burn down 1 out of the 4 mansions on our family's private island, that Cady was assigned in the will, that'll show em!' Do you hear how stupid it sounds?!" You fired off. Johnny's hands rested on your shoulders.
"Baby, relax," he poorly tried to calm you.
"Relax?! yeah, relax worthy environment, my boyfriend and friends planning arson while the one who's wanted to play high and mighty this entire fucking summer sits there silently in support," you continued, calling out Gat.
"They're not going to listen if you shout!" Gat yelled, standing up.
"Then why did you yell at Cady?! Huh?! I have seen you 2 argue more this summer than actually get along!"
"Maybe that's because you're not around much!"
"Oh, I wonder why, because Harris doesn't like unmarried young couples spending the night together. So what that really means, Gat, is that I'm not a fucking pussy who has been beating around the bush with my crush since I was 12 years old and then suddenly, after cheating with her, disregarding her feelings, not communicating, you know, every other shitty thing you've done, acting like I care about her so much that I'm going to let her burn a house down. Do you know how fucking dangerous that is?!" you tore him apart. He couldn't speak.
"We've moved on, y/n!" Cady chimed in.
"Like you should move on from this idiotic fucking plan. My God! you know, you're privileged and entitled, and I always knew that could affected all of yours views, but I never thought it would make you genuinely fucking stupid," you said, sitting back down. Mirren stared at you awkwardly, Cadence was clearly pissed, Johnny's arm around your shoulders did little to comfort you since it wasn't giving much support to his currently hated girlfriend, and Gat silently sat, thinking you supposed.
"She's right," Mirren piped up.
Tumblr media
It was hours later than they wanted it, but you fell asleep on Johnny's shoulder and they formulated a plan. Smother the place in alcohol and gasoline and paper, light a match, and get out. Johnny would grab you on their way to the boat that Gat would man and jet off.
You stirred as you started to sweat in your jeans and t shirt. Had Johnny placed you right in front of the heater? Your eyes peer open. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. That wasn't a gas heater. That was Clairmont. You've never been wider awake. You jump up, head on a swivel as you see none of them around. They're in the house. You didn't even consider your danger; you ran in.
Gat's figure.
"GAT! GET THE FUCK OUT!"
"I CAN'T FIND CADY!"
"GET OUT!" you scream from your gut, yanking his arm back out towards the entrance.
"Y/N!" Gat yells back into the house but you're running up the stairs and Cadence is flying out. He catches her in his arms and holds her tight before running to the boat. Gat's mind is replaying how you 3 may never leave. On the boat, he sees a painting tossed out a window, then a falling Mirren. He panics she's broken something but she's up, grabbing the painting then running. Thank God for adrenaline.
Your shirt pulled off and around your face like a mask was better than nothing at keeping the smoke out of your respiratory system, but you were starting to feel faint. Till you trip. You look back from your spot on the ground.
Johnny.
"JOHNNY!" you screech. He doesn't respond. You're right next to him. He heard. But he doesn't respond. He's passed out. You don't even question your actions. Your arms slip under him and you're up.
"Where's Johnny? Where's y/n?" Cadence asks Gat on the boat, concerned as she noticed not only was Johnny not out yet, but you weren't asleep by the firepit anymore. Gat's silent, watching Clairmont for a sign of either of you. "Where are Johnny and y/n, Gat?" Cadence demands an answer, voice breaking in worry. "There!" Gat shouts as you come sprinting.
"Is Johnny in her arms?" Mirren asks, intrigued and confused. She didn't think you were weak, but Johnny was easily tens of pounds heavier than you. You didn't know the plan. You just knew the other Liars were on the boat so you headed to the dock. You throw Johnny aboard before jumping on yourself, kneeling down beside him.
"Isn't he heavy?" Cadence inquires.
"He's not heavy, He's Johnny, you fucking bitch," you spit back at her, assessing Johnny for a pulse. It was there. It wasn't too late. But you could feel it slow under your fingertip. Cadence is taken off guard by your hostility. Hands on top of the other, you pump Johnny's chest. Better a broken rib than dead, right? You pause, opening Johnny's mouth as you tilt up his chin, blocking his nose before pushing a big breath into his mouth. "Come on, come on, come on, please, please, Johnny," you whimper, continuing chest compressions, tears that were streaming down your face in Clairmont now pooling in your eyes that watch his face for any expression. You can't stop. No. You can't. Tears fall onto his shirt as you sniffle. Gat driving the boat, somewhere, couldn't help, and the girls were in shocked. "Johnny, please, please, please don't die on me, you can't fucking die!" you cry and then a gasp. "Johnny!" you squeal, shooting down to hug him tight.
"Hi...hi," he pants, hand weakly patting your back.
"I thought you were dead, and-and-and-I couldn't-" you stutter, tears flooding your eyes as you pull back, face above his as your hands hold his head.
"I'm okay, I'm okay," he breathlessly assures you, his eyes closed as he rests back into your hands, his hands holding your wrists. He opens his eyes and takes in your face, before they dart to your torso. "What happened to your shirt?"
"Burnt while I was running out with you so I shook it off frantically," you tell him, he nods, coming to sit up slowly. You help him, making sure he doesn't faint again.
"Gat, don't look at my girlfriend," Johnny jokes, arms wrapped around you like a cover. He nearly died and he was still making jokes. Only Johnny.
"Believe me, I'm occupied," Gat replies, steering the boat. "Besides, I've seen her in a bikini before, how is that different?"
"This is very different, Gat! One is whatever bikini material is and one is cotton and lace," Johnny jokingly lectures Gat, making you and the girls giggle. Gat rolls his eyes.
"It is actually pretty cute, where'd you get it?" Mirren asks.
"Can you all just shut the fuck up for a second?" you beg, head tilting back against the side of the boat as you suck in shaky breaths. They go quiet. "Just because I'm beyond grateful that my boyfriend is alive doesn't mean I'm not fucking pissed with all of you. If I didn't love you guys, I'd kill you with my own hands right now."
"It'd be kind of a waste of cpr and a shirt, wouldn't it?" Johnny rhetorically questions and you turn your head to the side to glare at him. His lips in that stupid smirk.
"Looks like you won't be enjoying the other half of that set for a whiille," Mirren pipes up. Cadence and Gat snicker.
"Fuck off," Johnny retorts. Despite being so ridiculously angry, you never knew you could be this angry at people, you shuffle closer to Johnny, resting your head on his shoulder and wrapping your arms around him.
"I love you," you murmur quietly, not knowing what else you could express with your words at this moment.
"I can tell. I love you too," he murmurs back, holding you tight.

Hey do you think the reader is gonna date again i mean after johnny’s death and yk kat
hiii!!! sorry for getting to this so so late
I don't think so. I think she rebuilds what she had of a social life beforehand but doesn't have any romantic pursuits per se
not only is she busy with kat and dating with a kid is hard enough but her life, her family, are the sinclairs now. it'd be pretty awkward for her to bring a guy into that because the whole foundation of her being there is her dead boyfriend, her daughters father
I think she focuses more on personal growth and health after than dating is even a thought for her
like in I would've married you... she had her soulmate, other half, whatever. he died. she'd view dating after that like a pipe dream for the perfect man who no longer lives

Just wanna be a part of your family
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: idek just a cute little drabble with divorced!Art and Lily being a cutie patootie
pairing: dilf!Art Donaldson x younger!reader (it's not obnoxiously present but hinted at with Lily's comfortability with an older girl but still young woman)
contains/warnings: use of y/n, mention of being infertile, super fluffy because I had to, not proofread by anyone by me, all the 'I'm no expert writer' disclaimers
a/n: feeling very maternal over lily donaldson right now and needed to write it out 😭🩷 also this is shorter than my usual stuff but 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ also also! my first time writing for Art!!!! nervous!!!
Tumblr media
His first priority was Lily. That was clear. After leaving tennis and Tashi, his everything was Lily. Getting back into the dating scene, he was worried that it'd turn women away because who would want a man so obsessed with his daughter? But you found it endearing.
His phone buzzed as he saw the notification on his watch. "I'm sorry, that's my daughter, let me just-" he excused himself, slipping his phone out of his pocket to respond to Lily's message. He turned his phone sideways as he clicked the video and smiled softly at the contents. It was just some cat video Lily liked but the sentiment of her wanting to show him meant to the world. He almost forgot he was on a date. "Shit- I'm sorry, just-" he started to apologise before noticing your smile. He couldn't understand why, but knew it was a good sign. "My daughter, Lily, she likes sending me things while she's at her mom's," he told you.
"She sounds sweet," you smiled. "Do you and her mother coparent well together?" you inquired, and he nodded, putting his phone back into his pocket. He was impressed that was something you even knew to ask about. "She a daddy's girl?" you lightheartedly questioned and he chuckled.
"Some what," he answered. As you further discussed Lily and his prior marriage to a degree he felt comfortable disclosing at that point, he could tell how well you'd work together. You loved kids but had been confirmed infertile since your early cycles and here was a perfect man, with a daughter already! Still, it was months before you met Lily. He wasn't going to be one of those divorced dads bringing women in and out of his daughter life.
Tumblr media
You had found old recordings of Art's games. You weren't seeking them out, but they popped up, and your interest was piqued. You pressed play and couldn't look away. You were mesmerised. He had so much energy, was so in love, for this sport and now it's history to him. You weren't going to push he got back into it. You heard how drained Tashi made him about it and wouldn't want him to relive that. But how could you just completely drop something you were that passionate about? You couldn't understand.
"y/n?" Lily pipes up from around the corner. You pause the video and look over to her.
"Yeah, baby?" you question as she pads over.
"You watching daddy play?" she asks and you nod.
"Yeah," you confirm, voice gentle. You were always so loving with her. But not so soft that you were boring. So you were fun in Lily's eyes.
"He was really good," she notes, fidgeting with the ear of her stuffed bunny rabbit. You nod again.
"I can see that," you agree through a smile.
"Mommy watches his games a lot," she tells you. Your expression softens, opening up a more comfortable, accepting, environment for her to continue. "I think she misses him sometimes." How do you respond to that? Lily didn't know why her parents split up; she didn't need to. That was an adult issue. So you didn't want to say what you were thinking but you didn't also want to give her a false hope of them getting back together. If that's even what she wanted. You're thankful she says the next words. "But I think they're both happier now." You smile and nod.
"Yeah, and that's what matters," you tell her, tucking a stray curl back behind her ear. She nods and perks up again.
"Daddy's definitely happier with you," she giggles and you chuckle.
"I think he has a big fat crush on me actually," you jokingly correct. She giggles again, the smile on your lips widening.
"What you 2 talking about?" Art pokes his head in with, smirk tugging at his lips from his 2 favourite girls happy together. Lily hides her giggling face behind her stuffed animal as Art walks over.
"Do you have a crush on y/n?" she cheekily asks, making Art raise his eyebrows and your jaw slack in shock, exaggerating your surprise with an open mouth.
"I think it's none of your business, missy," Art playfully responds as he scoops her up in his arms and shakes her side to side. Her laughs fill the otherwise quiet air, wide smile on everyone in the room's face. Toned arms wrapped around her still holding her tight, he pulls his face back from hers to look at her. "The answer is yes, but just because I give her attention doesn't mean you get any less," he assures her once again with a forehead kiss. She nods, he nods, then "attacks" her with kisses, covering her face in them.
"Dad!" Lily lightheartedly complains, making Art chuckle before putting her down. He glances back over to you and he knows. The whole "when you know, you know" bullshit is true. Unfaltering smile, pure content, he could practically feel the heat from your heart, you were happy. Happy with him, with Lily, with life. Not demanding more or nitpicking. In love. Like nothing else existed. And you'd be happy with that.

Not to be annoying or anything but it feels quite disrespectful that you keep writing Johnny as straight when it has been confirmed he is actually gay. Fictional character or not, canon sexualities shouldn’t be invalidated, especially for a queer character.
Hi, I completely understand this concern. The erasure of lgbtq+ characters, in our current political climate too, to add insult to injury, is terrible. I'm always someone who preaches for better and more representation of lgbtq+ people, past, present, and future.
When it comes to Johnny Sinclair, I feel it is important to note the lack of a label (bi, gay, pan, etc) especially considering he's shown dancing with both girls and guys on the party boat, and also the fact that his sexuality isn't a plot line in the book. I pull from the book and show for his character. The show made his character deeper and gave us a visual, so I pull from there, but the book leaves him ambiguous and open to everyone to enjoy. Meaning, I can write him with a feminine reader, you can write him with a masculine reader, there's no bounds! This is fanfiction. Have fun!
correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. I'm always always always open to learning more! But I will not tolerate harassment in my inbox because I'm writing what's fun and what people enjoy. Thank you!
- sincerely, abeautifullittlefoooool

So little Katy can see Johnny and from what it seems like interact with him. Do Gat and Mirren ever hang around the crib/playpen with Johnny and Katy while y/n is away or sleeping?
YES.
mirren LOVES katy. number 1 fan. constantly trying to persuade her to mess with johnny because what else would mirren be doing? she's also just cried over how cute she is. like johnny finds katy sat up awake in her crib and mirren is in the corner crying like "😭 she's your baby 😭 and shes so cute 😭 and my niece 😭 and I love her so much 😭" but also agrees with gat so is like 🤷🏼‍♀️idk ? what ? to ? do🤷🏼‍♀️
gat is more distant because he's like "how confused is she going to be one day when y/n has to explain that we're ghosts and what not??? her world will crumble" but johnny drags him into being uncle gat and he does love her a lot
mirren and gat's death didn't debilitate reader as much so things revolving them don't stick with reader like things about johnny but they do happen

I love making them, I save like a million photos to use in text and social media AUs with an idea in mind, but I don't want to post like 2 screenshots using photos that could be used in a more fledged out satisfying storyline for the sake of posting them

"Double lines means..." Johnny trailed off as the word fell from your mouth quietly.
"Pregnant" you mumbled to yourself.
He felt his face move through a million different expressions. Eyebrows furrowed together, lip pulled up, jaw slack, lips tugged down, eyebrows raised, nose flared, jaw clenched. He didn't know how he felt. Mad, shocked, excited, upset, hopeful, scared, proud, reckless. He stared at the test. He'd always been so conscious not to get you pregnant. His mother would kill him. It'd be a disgrace. But everyone accepted this one fine. Welcoming it even. It was good? for you now.
"Why are you in a mood?" Gat questioned as his eyes tracked Johnny walking back with an attitude before slumping down into the couch.
"y/n won't let me touch her baby bump. She complains about feeling cold whenever I even go near it," Johnny complained with a pout. Mirren rolled her eyes. "I also heard her joke about me not finding her attractive anymore which is complete bullshit! She's adorable and glowing-"
"Adorable and glowing isn't attractive," Mirren pointed out, causing Johnny to roll his eyes.
"Yeah, attractive implies sexual attraction," Gat spelled out.
"Hey, if I could, I would. Know that," Johnny grumbled, sliding further back into the couch. Mirren dry retched.
"She's having your baby and you're upset because you can't have sex?"
"Yes! Have you ever considered this is really awful for me?! I may as well be in hell!" Johnny whined, making both of the other liars roll their eyes. The silence is a hint to stop talking but Johnny couldn't help himself. "Her boobs have gotten bigg-"
"Johnny!" Mirren scolded.
"Sorry!" he exclaimed, hands up in a mock surrender.
Johnny watched as you walked back into Red Gate with a baby. Your baby. His baby. Katarina. She was adorable. He was certain nothing was more beautiful. He stayed up all night just watching her sleep.
"Dude, come help me prank Gat. I've had this planned for like a week and I need your help," Mirren whined, trying to tug Johnny out of the chair he sat in by his arm.
"No? Yesterday was y/n's due date and you knew I'd be occupied their first night back. I can't see how you thought I'd be available right now," he reasoned, looking back to Katy and Mirren rolled her eyes before looking over to the sleeping baby too.
"Spring baby. From her 'bounce' father," Mirren noted and Johnny nodded. He was petrified. He was 16. He couldn't be a dad. But he was certain he loved her beyond words. "I've got to admit, she's really cute," Mirren commented and Johnny lit up at the opportunity to gush.
"I know! I said that! y/n and I made an adorable kid," Johnny endearingly preened.
"uh-uh. y/n made a cute kid, you just finished," Mirren corrected, shaking off disgust at the thought.
"Alright, can we not speak about the technicalities of my daughters conception beside her sleeping self?" Johnny asked and Mirren nodded.
"Agreed."
"Cady," Gat uttered at the sight of her, a bit winded by her presence.
"Hey," Cadence greeted them all with distance in her voice.
"Shit," Johnny muttered as he gets up, breathless that she's acknowledging them.
"Cady!" Mirren exclaimed, hugging her tight. "We missed you."
"Then why didn't you call?" She questioned, pulling back and they go quiet.
"Let's not linger on the past, what is there to catch her up on?" Mirren asked, looking between Gat and Johnny.
"I'm a dad! I'm not as present as y/n would like me to be but I'm here, she knows that...it's complicated but her name's Katarina, we call her Katy, she's the cutest thing ever, and you know I don't really think that about babies," Johnny rambled on, leading Cadence back to the houses.
"Yeah! Kat is the cutest! Totally Johnny's daughter," Mirren agrees, jumping along in her platform converse as they walk. Just when Cadence's eyes landed on you, Johnny realised the time.
"Shit! Is it 2? Katy's due to be fed. I need to get that ready for y/n... you go up to her!" Johnny told Cadence, jogging backwards before running off to Red Gate.
"I'm just going to make sure everything's locked up and we'll meet you down at the dock," Carrie said, leaving Ed and Will to carry the bags down. You were heading back to New York for an event of Cadence's. Katy got an invite too. Specially signed by her favourite, Aunty Cady. You were upstairs, changing Katy, when Carrie passed through the house to find you. She reached the bottom of the stairs, about to ascend them.
"You guys going?" Johnny asked, grabbing Carrie's attention. She turned around and nodded with a hum. "Can I come?" Johnny questioned half-jokingly. Carrie lightly chuckled.
"I don't know, can you?" she inquired, leaning against the staircase railing.
"I want to," Johnny replied, voice cracking at the idea of being alone again. And, well, he wasn't alone, but Mirren and Gat were little comfort when he wanted you. Or Katy. It was so close to Cady, no wonder she was her favourite. "Can ghosts move places, mom?"
"I don't know, Johnny, you tell me," she mellowly responded. She had made peace with it. That's where she'd come to.
"I don't know, mom. I uh I don't know a lot and it's scary and I don't like being scared. Dying was scary enough. And you can't die twice, I know that, but now I'm stuck in an existential worry about y/n and Katy and it sucks, it really sucks-" Johnny rambled, voices cracks and hands fidgeting.
"Johnny, Johnny-" Carrie attempted to slow him down.
"And I think a part of me knew y/n was pregnant, like I didn't but I felt something and I still agreed to it and I still did that stupid fucking plan-" He continued, voice raising as he spiralled more and more.
"Johnny! We've had this conversation before! Can we not today?" Carrie near shouted. Johnny was taken aback. They could never have conversations when he wanted them, could they? Always later or tomorrow or when we get home and then it never happens and nothing good comes from it.
"What if something happens?" Johnny questioned. You'd lived 16 years in New York. It wasn't like you didn't know your way around. But you had Katy this time.
"They'll be okay" Carrie assured him.
"And if they're not?" Johnny further pressed. Blake Beaumont was in New York. Millions of people were in New York. Not just some formerly racist old man, recovered opiate addict, art dealer, desperate housewife, some tweens, and 2 dogs.
"They won't not" Carrie said, putting forward all her conviction. She knew this would never end. "Johnny, them being here, a place you float around, doesn't protect them any more. Even if there were a situation where they could get hurt here, what could you do? Nothing. But watch."
"But they can't get hurt here" Johnny retorts. He knew he couldn't actually do anything. But he felt better being there. And, it was Beechwood! What bad could happen on Beechwood?
"You did."
"I was an idiot. y/n isn't and I hope Katy got her genes on that."
Silence fills the room. It suffocates them both and Johnny can't deal with another round of that.
"Can ghosts move places?" he asked again.
"You should try to make peace-"
"Can ghosts move places, mom?," he begged, desperate for a yes. She sighed.
"You could try. Because she's getting better. And she won't move on, God no, but she'll move off Beechwood. Go back to school maybe. Kat will grow up-"
"And I never will. I know."
"Who are you talking to?" you asked, Katy on your hip. Carrie jumped in place, startled before looking up to you descending the stairs.
"There you are, oh I was just- um-" Carrie fumbled her words, not knowing how to explain. She knew you couldn't see him. Johnny had accepted that fact. He'd learnt to have fun with it. Smile plastered on Johnny's face as he saw Katy. He could never be upset around her. Katy extended her arm and twisted her open palm towards behind Carrie. He blew a bunch of kisses back, making Katy giggle.
"You're not on anything, are you?" you jokingly asked Carrie as you put back down Katy's arm, and she half heartedly swatted your shoulder, making the corners of your mouth tug up.
"Let's get going you 2," she said, patting your back in a way to guide you out. You stepped out the door, Katy looking behind you. Johnny left behind.
"Gat! Mirren!" Johnny shouted, running to them.
"What?" they both asked.
"Katy said her first word while they were away!" he near squealed with excitement and they jumped up.
"Really?" Gat questioned and Johnny nodded excessively.
"What was it?" Mirren inquired.
"Dada," Johnny answered, clearly proud about it. Mirren rolled her eyes at his smugness.
"y/n cried?" she questioned.
"Oh yeah," Johnny agreed.
"And Carrie gasped her Carrie gasp I bet," Gat added, making them all smirk.
"Dada is also the easiest word to say," Mirren mentioned. Johnny glared at her. "What? yes, it's sweet but-"
"You're being such a buzzkill, Mirren, why can't you just be happy for the guy?" Gat questioned and Mirren groaned.
"God! can't I mention a fact?" Mirren exclaimed.
Tumblr media
Having a kid at 16 already wasn't a good look. You couldn't be uneducated too. Since living on Beechwood, you'd get your schoolwork sent to you in the mail that you'd retrieve on Mondays in town. You do your schoolwork in New Clairmont for the wifi, open booklet beside your laptop, and go for a walk or play with the Goldens with Katy for a break before finishing up for the day. Will had the same. Ed and Carrie helped out of course, but you felt so guilty acknowledging you needed help. Your second school year with a baby was exhausting you. Not only was Katy becoming a toddler, but it was your last grade. Katy wasn't a burden, you didn't want it to come off that way, but she'd been up all night fussing in pain with her molars coming in, you had an exam, you were tired. You'd come back to Carrie and Will watching a movie, Katy on her uncle Will's lap. Will adored her. It was incredibly sweet.
"Will, you can go play, bud, I can take care of Kat," you told him as you entered Red Gate's living room. He could see how tired you were by your face and tone. It was similar to how your demeanour was when you were sick. That's how Will referred to you being depressed. It made sense that way.
"Are you sure?" he checked, seeing you clearly needed a nap rather than to be taking care of Kat.
"She's my daughter, Will, my job, not yours, go play," you assured him, gesturing your head towards the door and he nodded, getting up before placing Kat back on the warm spot on the couch where he just sat. You scooped her up, resting her on your hip but she wiggled, clearly wanting to move around so you pulled out her play pen. With Carrie's help, you got it up and she retrieved her toys. You sat back on the couch, closing your eyes for just a second, just to rest them, and passed out asleep. Carrie walked back in to Johnny laying a blanket over you.
"Mom! hey! can you making something up for Katy? She'll play, then want to eat, then sleep and since she didn't sleep much last night, I'm assuming that will be soon," Johnny explained to Carrie, who just smiled.
"And you said you weren't a present father," Carrie responded jokingly, putting Katy's toys down with her in her pen. Johnny lightly chuckled. He felt a lot of guilt about that. He didn't like not being physically there. He wanted to hug you without you shivering. He wanted to hold Katy. He knew fathers complained about it but he wanted at least the ability to have his toddler hanging off him. "On it," she said, heading to the kitchen. Johnny followed, still keeping an eye on you and Kat around the corner. "She isn't mad at you, Johnny," Carrie informed him. She could feel it hovering over her, weighing on her back. The conjuring of one of his depressing spirals. They wrang her out every time.
"I know," he replied, nodding. "I'm mad at myself, mom. I shouldn't have-" words failed him as his eyes watered.
"She isn't," Carrie repeated, not in the mood to have another discussion like this but it wasn't really her choice now, was it?
"She was at one point, remember?" Johnny recalled, hopping up to sit on the countertop as Carrie moved around. Carrie nodded. "You washed my sweatshirt, and she had a breakdown about it. She was sobbing in our room. And Will came around to check on her. She shouted in front of Will. That's when I knew I'd forever fucked her up..." Johnny recalled, voice distant, staring down at the ground as he fidgeted with his hands.
"You didn't fuck her up-" Carrie attempted to console him. He didn't mess you up. His death did.
"She screamed "Of course I had to love the fucking idiot. All he had to do was get out, run, it's not that fucking hard, yet he didn't. Why? I don't know. Was me on the outside not enough incitive?" and went on to talk about how worthless she was and I couldn't listen anymore so went up to Gat and Mirren and Will was alone listening to that and I just failed them all, mom," Johnny recounted, his voice cracking and eyes full of tears. He couldn't hold it in. "She had plans and dreams, involving me too, and now she's an exhausted mother at 17-"
"She's happy, Johnny," Carrie insisted.
"Because she loves Katy, not because this was her goal," Johnny retorted. He couldn't bare with the fact that not only did he die on you, but he also left you a single mother.
"Without Katy, she'd be dead, Johnny. Or in a unit," Carrie told him. "She loves Katy, and she loves you, and she loves Katy because of you. I don't want you pitying her still. She's a strong girl." She didn't help you through all she did for Johnny to demean how far you'd come.
"I know-"
"You are letting your own fears taint y/n's life. She's happy, Johnny. Not what she planned, but still happy," Carrie said, shutting down Johnny's spiral. She knew it came from a good place of care and love, but he had to make peace with how things were. He moved back to the couch. He dropped down next to you. Katy looked up to her upset dad, confused by his expression. She extended her arms, making grabbing hands for him. She didn't get he wasn't there.
"Katy wants to be picked up," Johny called out to Carrie.
"Yeah, by you," she replied, coming back in with apple sauce in a small bowl for when Katy wanted it.
"You know I can't," he stated.
"Well aware," she said, sitting back down opposite to him.
"So?" he questioned, wondering what she was thinking.
"So tell her you can't, Johnny" Carrie suggested.
"I don't want to tell her "no, I can't pick you up." I can't be the dead and bad parent," Johnny wallowed, resting a hand on your leg. Carrie sighed. He looked over you, curled up sleeping on your side. "She loves her so much. She's such a good mom."
"Johnny..." Carrie trailed off in a sympathetic tone.
"What this time?!" Johnny snapped, knee jerk reaction to Carrie's trailed off Johnny's. He didn't like raising his voice around Katy. He knew it wasn't good.
"Johnny?!" Carrie exclaimed, baffled by his attitude.
"Johnny!" Katy copied. Both their heads snapped to Katy, wide eyed. You stirred awake.
"Wha about Johnny?" you mumbled, rubbing your eyes and moving your leg away from the cold draft. Johnny rolled his eyes at you moving away from his touch yet again.
"Katy just said Johnny," Carrie announced. You blinked further awake and looked to her. You realised you passed out asleep but that wasn't the issue at hand. You pull the blanket off you and kneel down with her.
"Baby, did you say Johnny?" you asked her, voice soft, trying to get her to copy.
"Johnny!" Katy spat out again. You looked to Carrie in awe before wrapping your arms around her. Johnny gave her 2 thumbs up and a "nice one" expression with pursed lips that made Katy giggle.
Tumblr media
A baby giggling at nothing was as old as time. It meant nil and was cute so you brushed it off with your warm smile at Katarina's laugh. You were so used to everyone coddling you. From your psychotic break to being a teen mother, everyone around you did everything for you. So a prepared bottle all ready on the counter for you to feed Katarina wasn't something to question. Katarina pointing to the photo of Johnny and recognising him as daddy made sense. You'd been showing her such since she was born. Saying dada and daddy and even picking up Johnny's name was all part of speech development.
You were going back to New York for your graduation. You made it out alive. Cadence was all but recovered. No longer having seizures, therapy 3 times every week going down to once every 3 weeks, keeping Gat's good word in her mouth, Mirren's attention to detail, Johnny's spirit. And, of course, you kept his kid. Since saying her first word, dada, and second word, Johnny, she'd learnt more. Names including: mama (you), daddy (Johnny), mommy (you again), Nan (Carrie), Pop (Ed), Aunty Cady (Cadence), Will (Will), Grap (her attempt at great grandpa. Harris), Libby (Liberty), Bonnie (Bonnie), Beth (not entirely wrong, but it was just a lisp. Bess), Penny (Penny). And she had favourites. "Want Aunty!" she'd demand and a toddler didn't like hearing "No, she's away right now." "Will!" she'd squeal, running the best a 2 year old could run over to him. Will kept his promise. He was the best, most amazing uncle ever. Even as a preteen boy. "Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop" she'd repeat in a tune, moving her body or just head in beat, till she got what she wanted, Ed's attention.
You stood outside with Ed and Will, Katy on your hip as you waited for Carrie to lock up.
"Ready to go, missy?" Ed asks her, twirling one of her pigtails around his finger. She fusses about him playing with her hair, he stops, then she nods.
"Yea!" she answers.
"How long are you guys away this time?" Johnny asks as Carrie locks up the living room window, making her jump.
"Uhh, 2 weeks, why?" Carrie answers. He nods, looking at Katy out the window.
"She going too?" he asks, knowing the answer but not liking it anymore.
"Yes, Katy is coming, Johnny, why would we leave her here?" Carrie retorts. He shrugs.
"I don't know, maybe I'd like to take care of my own kid," he mumbles.
"You can't-"
"I know that! Thanks!" Johnny sarcastically responds. Carrie sighs.
"What's wrong?" she inquires.
"She's getting better. She's forgetting me," Johnny says and Carrie's brows furrow.
"She is not forgetting you," Carrie corrects.
"No, she is, and-"
"Jonathan!" Carrie snaps. Johnny's stunned into silent, staring at his mother. She breathes in deeply than exhales. "Johnny, she has accepted your loss. That doesn't mean she's forgotten you. She has your healthy, beautiful, just like you daughter on her hip, that's honoring, not forgetting. We are leaving for her graduation. She's graduating! and to think her mother and I were worried she wouldn't make it to 17. The loss doesn't affect her any less, she's just grown around it inside her, making it look smaller." Johnny nods quietly, looking down at his feet.
"Can you give her a graduation present for me?" he asks.
"Of course, what would you want to get her?" Carrie inquires.
"In my room back in New York, in the shoebox under my bed, just give her the box," Johnny instructs her and Carrie nods. With a quick farewell, she's heading out.
"Everything locked up?" Ed questions, to which Carrie nods with a hum, locking up the door.
"Say it, say it," Johnny whispered, pointing between you and Katy from the window before waving, encouraging her.
"Bye, daddy! later!" Kat farewelled and your eyes widened. You look to Ed. Ed looks to Carrie, who seems to be glaring back at empty space. Johnny raises his hands in a mock surrender again, shit eating grin on his face. Kat looked to your face, so close to hers, and giggled at your reaction.
"I swear to god this kid is all Johnny," you said, adjusting her on your hip before continuing out, referring to her instinctual love and need to mess with you just like Johnny did. They all chuckled.
Tumblr media
You graduated. You walked across the stage and Katy called out "mommy!" making some giggle and your heart warm. Your eyes were glassy as you shook your principal's hand and he gave you a reassuring smile almost like Bess' that night. Your nostrils flared as you sucked in more air to not cry, and like that, you were off. The thing Carrie was so depressingly sure you'd never do, alongside Johnny, happened. All in 30 seconds.
Carrie used so much gel in Katy's hair that morning it was obvious she was only used to sons. You washed Katy's hair in the bath as she splashed around. A rubber tennis ball bobbing atop the water surface as you massaged the shampoo into her scalp. She loved water. She was adorable holding her nose, her cheeks inflated like balloons with her held breath.
You're drying Katy's hair with a towel, her standing on the chair in front of your vanity mirror, giggling at the feeling and you playing peek-a-boo with her in the mirror, when Carrie knocks to enter.
"Come in!" you call out, lifting Katy off the chair and placing her on the bed as Carrie opens the door, smiling at little Katy.
"Hi, I was going through Johnny's room and thought you'd like this, like a graduation present," Carrie tells you, handing you a shoebox. You wanted to be the one to go through Johnny's things. But it had been 2 years, so you let it slide. You take it and sit down, shoebox in your lap. You open it. A tennis ball and a piece of paper ripped out of a notebook lie inside. You pick up the tennis ball, holding it in your hand as you read.
future Johnny 3/26/13
Miss Quinn asked us to write a letter to our future selves as part of a time capsule project. So I just wanted to tell you about this girl who I'm pretty sure should be our wife by the time you're reading this.
Me and Jackson were practicing on the courts and we started messing around and I ended up hitting this ball outside of the courts and it hit her on the head. I went to get it back and she was really pretty. I guess I never noticed before but y/n y/l/n is really pretty.
Im thinking a wedding on beechwood. and 2 kids. a boy and a girl. for sure mike for a boy. mikes are cool. i dont know about girl names. cady and mirren are the only girls i like, besides of course y/n but shes a new addition, so maybe something like that. Jackson would call me cringe for this but I know my future. Not my fault he doesn't know his.
from now Johnny
"Can you take Katy for a second?" you ask Carrie through tears that were choking you out, gesturing her direction out, not wanting to cry in front of her. Carrie nods, picking her up and heading out of the room, closing the door behind her.
"Let's go to Pop!" you hear Carrie tell Katy as they walk down the hall.
The ink blurring from your tears dripping onto the page, you put it aside and rest your head in your hands, elbows propped up on your knees and sob. "should be our wife" "wedding on beechwood" "2 kids" "something like that." "I know my future." and he kept the tennis ball he hit you with! The thing that made you first talk. 5 years ago. And he hasn't been present for the last 2. But Katy has. You sit back up, sniffling the snot back up your nose as you look at the tennis ball, cradling it with both hands. You hold it to your heart as you look up.
"You sick fuck," you express half heartedly, chuckle taking the end of your words as your lips pull into a smile. It was sad he wasn't here. That his future self didn't exist. That you didn't get that wedding on Beechwood. But you got a Katy. Close enough to Cady. And you were happy. At peace with it. Johnny smiles next to you. You were so tired, it may be a hallucination but you look to him.
"You're doing amazing," he tells you. You nod.
Tumblr media
You tell Carrie about it the next morning over breakfast, passing it off as part of your dream your brain is misremembering as earlier. Her reaction caught you off guard.
"You look like you've seen a ghost," you joked before she looked up behind you. Johnny stretching with a yawn as he entered the kitchen. You snapped around at the sound of the awe before your expression dropped. There it was. Again.
"What's for breakfast?" he asked, leaning his forearms on the bench. Your attention darted between where he stood at the end of the counter and Carrie across from you.
"You see him too?" you inquired, brows furrowed.
"So ghosts can move places?" Carrie lightheartedly questions. Johnny nods.
"When their unfinished business at the place they're tied to is over, yeah," he answers.
"Are we on drugs?" you ask with full sincerity. Carrie chuckles.
"Why are you shocked? ohhh, forgot. you've probably never seen a ghost this hot before," Johnny jokes.
"She's never seen a ghost at all, Johnny," Carrie states.
"I know! I'm joking!" Johnny defends.
"Yeah, I'm on drugs, what did you put in the food?" you question Carrie.
"No, y/n, listen, Johnny and Mirren and Gat and Rosemary are ghosts. They've been ghosts," she tries to explain. You were ever closed off to the idea of ghosts but this didn't seem real.
"Aunt Rosemary! it was cool to finally meet her," Johnny notes. "She is still like 11 though."
"How- Wha-?" you struggle to comprehend. "Wait, so how does any of this work?" you question, utterly baffled by this revelation.
"It's something to do with Beechwood. I don't fully understand-"
"Me either," Johnny chimes in.
"But you're not crazy. Johnny's been here. If anything, he's crazy you haven't been able to see him for so long," Carrie explains.
"Katy has," Johnny mentions, and it starts to make sense. The made bottles, the daddys, the waving, the farewells. He was there. He was always there. He never left you.
"SO YOUVE BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME!?" you ask, hands planted on the counter as you stand.
"YES!" he answers.

EVERYONE GO READ THIS NOW. IM SMILING BEHIND MY SCREEN RIGHT NOW
overview : johnny throws a huge sinclair party, reader gets super drunk, and he very clumsily, but very sweetly, attempts to do her skincare for her before bed.
cw : literally just tooth rotting fluff divider creds to @cursed-carmine
Tumblr media
the sinclair house was loud in that definitely slightly -too-many-people, summer-slipping-through-our-fingers kind of way. music thudded against the wood floors, the windows fogged from heat, and someone in the kitchen was definitely lighting marshmallows on fire.
you were posted up in the living room, sitting cross-legged on the arm of the couch, talking to one of johnny’s prestigious private school friends — will, or maybe wes? you couldn’t remember. you'd talked to so many people that in the past few hours, and with alcohol now in your system, it was hard to keep track.
what mattered was that johnny, a few feet away, kept glancing over at you with that quiet smile he saved for just you. the one that said i see you. i like seeing you. and you smiled back, soft and tipsy, the perfect party girlfriend.
then, mirren appeared in front of you. she looked like trouble in glittery eyeliner and bare feet, holding a solo cup in each hand. "y/n. i neeeeed you," she giggled as she spoke. "come with me. we’re making drinks."
"i already have one," you said, lifting your nearly-empty vodka cranberry.
mirren grinned. "no, no. i mean real drinks. science project drinks. we’re mixing everything."
you looked over at johnny, who had just slung an arm around one his friends in the kitchen, watching you from across the room. you shot him a mock-serious look. "your cousin’s trying to kill me."
"she probably will," he called back. "forward me a funeral playlist."
twenty minutes later, you were in the kitchen with four bottles, zero rules, and a rapidly fading sense of self-control.
"try this one," mirren said, handing you something neon green. "it’s got malibu, gatorade, and maybe pickle juice? i blacked out halfway through." you laughed and took it from her hand without hesitation.
it burned going down, but you laughed so hard you nearly fell off the stool you were sitting on. johnny found you a little while after that, leaned against the fridge, cheeks flushed, slurring something about "the betrayal of pineapple juice."
"hey, party girl," he said, stepping between you and the counter like a shield. "how are we feeling?"
you squinted up at him like he was made of sunshine and concern. "so good. like. so good. i looove this kitchen. did you know that? i love it. and you. and this tile. it’s so coldyyyy."
he gently peeled the solo cup from your hand. "alrighty then, time for bed."
Tumblr media
he practically had to carry you back to the main house, to which you protested the whole way. he brought you up to his room, ultimately deciding that you were gonna have to sleep with him tonight. not that either of you minded.
"you wanna sleep in your clothes or my clothes?" he asked, slipping your wedged heels off your feet for you as you lay on your back on the edge of his bed.
"mmmyours," you slurred. "but don't look at me while i change. that's dirty," you said pointing your finger at him.
"whatever you say killer," he responded trying to stifle a laugh. he tossed you an old sweater and some comfy shorts from his drawer and went into the bathroom so you could change, per your request.
when he came back out, you were perched on the edge of his bed, staring up at him, like you were waiting for something.
"you ready for bed now?" he questioned, slightly confused as to why you weren't cozied up under his duvet already.
"no jonathan. i will literally die if i sleep with mascara on," you responded, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"of course, shoulda known. no mascara death on my watch," he plays along, picking you up by the waist and carrying you to his bathroom as you squeal.
he sits down you, and you squirm as your exposed thighs make contact with the cold granite countertop. he glances at your extensive skincare collection that you have set up on "your" side of his expansive bathroom counter.
"okay," he says, resting his hands on your thighs. "what's our first step?"
"ummmm micellar water. and those cotton pad thingies," you respond to the best of your ability.
"k, your cellar water, cotton pads, got it," he mumbled, mostly to himself, searching through your numerous items.
you laugh like he's said the funniest thing in the world. "micellar, johnny. not cellar."
"ohh," he says, retrieving the bottle and pouring some onto a cotton round, as he's seen you do many times before. "thanks for educating me. now close your eyes pretty girl."
"mhm," you respond blissfully as he gingerly glides the cotton pad across your closed eyes and face.
"this smells like wet cucumbers," he whispers, accidentally sending you into another giggle fit.
he continues once you've calmed down, continuing to be surprisingly gentle, his thumb grazing your cheekbone and free hand planted warmly on your knee to steady the both of you.
"do you have any idea what you're doing right now?" you ask murmur, smiling with your eyes still closed.
"oh no, none at all," he confirms. "figured if i go slow and look concerned enough, you'll think i'm competent."
"i do," you whisper back. "you're very convincing."
he gives you one of his signature smiles, "my greatest strength. that and my jawline."
you giggle lightly, still drunk, but growing tired now. "don't forget your abs, also."
"very right. and my abs, good one," he chuckles shamelessly.
"mkay, now that pink bottle," you move on, pointing lazily in the direction of it.
"toner," he reads as he picks it up. he gives it a cautious sniff. "smells like your grandma's bathroom, but in a hot way."
"you're so weird," you say as you shake your head.
"and you love it," he replies simply, gently dabbing it across your forehead and cheeks. "there you are. toned. whatever that means."
you smile again sleepily, "last thing, moisturizer." the blue jar. not the orange. i think."
he picks it up and smoothes it over your skin as he's done with the last two products, carefully and slowly, like you're made of glass. you relax into his touch, bathing in the comfortable silence of the moment.
"wait," you say as he turns to put it back, grabbing the jar back from his hands. you reopen it and dip your fingertip in, getting a generous amount. you raise your hand to johnny's face and wordlessly swipe it across his features.
"thank you sweetheart. hey, if i wake up and my skins glowing tomorrow, i'm stealing this."
"no need," you tilt your head and smile up at him. "just ask, i'll make you a whole routine. done for tonight though, you may now kiss the princess."
"enticing offer, but the princess has booze breath," he jokes.
"still the prettiest princess in the bathroom," you pout. he bends down and pecks your lips as your arms find their usual place on the back of his neck. knowing what you want, he leans his body forward so you can throw your legs around his torso. he places his hands on the backs of your thighs and carries you back to his bed, only removing his hand once to flick the lights off.
you find your way under the covers immediately, curling into his side and sighing into his chest, relishing in his body heat.
"hey, you're like .... my favorite person," you mumble into his collarbone.
"you're mine too babe," he says simply, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. "you alright?"
"mhm, cuz you're here."
he smiles, genuinely, none of the party-boy charm, just johnny.
"always."
