A burning sensation with urination can be caused by infectious (including sexually transmitted infections, or STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea) and noninfectious conditions, but it is most commonly due to bacterial infection of the urinary tract affecting the bladder. Dysuria is a symptom of pain, discomfort, or burning when urinating. It is more common in women than in men. In men, it is more common in older men than younger men

What is the prostate? The prostate is a small gland found only in men, that is located between the bladder and the penis. It is about the size of a walnut but gets a little bigger after the male reaches 40 years of age. The function of the prostate is to produce a thick white fluid which, when combined with sperm from the testicles, makes semen. It also produces a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) which turns the semen into a liquid.

A kidney stone can be as tiny as a grain of sand, and you can pass it in your pee without ever knowing. But a bigger one can block your urine flow and hurt a lot. Some people say the pain can be worse than childbirth. They usually consist of calcium oxalate but may be composed of several other compounds.Kidney stones can grow to the size of a golf ball while maintaining a sharp, crystalline structure. The stones may be small and pass unnoticed through the urinary tract, but they can also cause extreme pain as they leave the body.

BURNING OR PAIN WHILE PASSING URINE
A burning sensation with urination can be caused by infectious (including sexually transmitted infections, or STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea) and noninfectious conditions, but it is most commonly due to bacterial infection of the urinary tract affecting the bladder. Dysuria is a symptom of pain, discomfort, or burning when urinating. It is more common in women than in men. In men, it is more common in older men than younger men.
These are some of the more common causes of painful urination: Infections: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the leading causes of painful urination. Infections can occur in any part of the urinary tract, including:
1. Kidneys
2. Ureters (tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder)
3. Bladder
4. Urethra (tube from the bladder that carries urine out of the body)
Urinary tract infections are most often caused by bacteria that get into the urinary tract through the urethra.
Factors that can increase your chance of developing a UTI include:
1. Being a woman
2. Diabetes
3. Advanced age
4. Enlarged prostate
5. Kidney stones
6. Pregnancy
7. Having a urinary catheter in place
Besides painful urination, other symptoms of UTI include:
1. Fever
2. Foul or stronger-smelling urine
3. Cloudy or bloody urine
4. Increased urinary frequency or urge to urinate
5. Flank pain
Inflammation and irritation: A range of problems can lead to inflammation or irritation of the urinary tract or genital area, leading to the symptom of painful urination. Besides infections, other reasons that area may be irritated or inflamed include:
1. Stones in the urinary tract
2. Irritation of the urethra from sexual activity
3. Interstitial cystitis, a condition caused by bladder inflammation
4. Vaginal changes related to menopause
5. Activities such as horseback riding or bicycling
6. Vaginal sensitivity or irritation related to use of scented soaps or bubble bath, toilet paper, or other products such as douches or spermicides
7. Side effects from certain medications, supplements, and treatments
8. Tumor in the urinary tract

5 top reasons to see your urologist right away!
More and more cases are coming up that point towards an obvious urological problem, but a general medical practitioner does not refer the patient to a urologist as the signs and symptoms do not appear to be serious. Why wait till the disorder manifests itself painfully. Maybe it’s time you let go of all embarrassment and get the problem diagnosed and treated asap. Here are some of the primary reasons why you should book an appointment with your urologist right away:
•  Blood in urine:
                       • Frequent urination:
                       • Painful urination
                       • Pain in lower abdomen/pelvic area
                        • Erectile dysfunction
If the pale yellow colored urine suddenly changes color and turns brown or pink, that could indicate blood in urine which requires medical attention. This could be due to a rigorous exercise or temporary injury, but could also be a symptom for urinary tract infection or bladder infection. However, there could be serious implications like kidney stones or prostate cancer so please go consult your urologist right now.
This is also famously known as incontinence. Poor bladder control can start to affect everyday activities and even relationships as the need to urinate are sudden and strong that it could be socially embarrassing. If it is accompanied by painful urination or even blood in urine, chances are you are suffering from UTI. Any which way, an appointment with the urologist needs to be booked.
In men, painful urination could be due to an enlarged prostate and this is accompanied by a frequent urge to urinate. Apart from that, if there are also any abnormalities in the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test, it could mean a serious condition that needs to be treated immediately. In women, apart from UTI, it could mean a yeast or bladder infection. Pain while urinating is also a symptom of STD’s, kidney stones and other major disorders.
This is one of the most common symptoms of kidney stones. The pain is usually severe and sometimes even crippling. When people leave this pain untreated, it often leads to permanent kidney damage, nausea or fever due to infection and by then it might be too late to see a doctor!
Sexual problems in men and women also come under one of the top concerns that urologists are seen for. There are multiple causes of ED – and it would be better to consult your urologist so he can start with a treatment plan than to put a toll on your relationship. Sexual problems in women could be due to anything – a yeast infection, bladder stones or what not.
A bulge around the abdomen area could or could not be a hernia, which also comes under one of the common urological disorders. Why going to a urologist is always recommended is because of their specialised knowledge and experience in this field because of which all such disorders would be treated effectively, without any complications. It’s imperative to see your urologist now and then – not just for treatment but also to prevent any future disorders!

How do you get kidney stones?
A kidney stone can be as tiny as a grain of sand, and you can pass it in your pee without ever knowing. But a bigger one can block your urine flow and hurt a lot. Some people say the pain can be worse than childbirth. They usually consist of calcium oxalate but may be composed of several other compounds. Kidney stones can grow to the size of a golf ball while maintaining a sharp, crystalline structure. The stones may be small and pass unnoticed through the urinary tract, but they can also cause extreme pain as they leave the body.
Symptoms:
A kidney stone usually remains symptomless until it moves into the ureter. When symptoms of kidney stones become apparent, they commonly include:
• severe pain in the groin and/or side
                       • Blood in urine
                       • vomiting and nausea
                       • white blood cells or pus in the urine
                           • reduced amount of urine excreted
   • burning sensation during urination
   • persistent urge to urinate
   • fever and chills if there is an infection
                         Causes:
The leading cause of kidney stones is a lack of water in the body. Stones are more commonly found in individuals who drink less than the recommended eight to ten glasses of water a day. When there is not enough water to dilute the uric acid, a component of urine, the urine becomes more acidic. An excessively acidic environment in urine can lead to the formation of kidney stones. Medical conditions such as Crohn's disease, urinary tract infections, renal tubular acidosis, hyperparathyroidism, medullary sponge kidney, and Dent's disease increase the risk of kidney stones.
Diet:
There are several foods that have a positive impact on kidney health. These can help reduce both the risk and impact of kidney stones. The body naturally passes the stone within 48 to 72 hours. Kidney beans are one such option. Boil the pods inside the beans for around six hours, strain the liquid, and allow this liquid to cool. People with kidney stones should consume this liquid every 2 hours over the course of 1 to 2 days. Other foods that can protect the kidneys include:
• basil
• celery
• apples
• grapes
• pomegranates
Vitamin B6 supplements and pyroxidine supplements have also been recommended as effective treatments. Vitamin B6 supplements can be purchased online.

What is the prostate cancer & its symptoms ?
What is the prostate?
It is about the size of a walnut but gets a little bigger after the male reaches 40 years of age. The function of the prostate is to produce a thick white fluid which, when combined with sperm from the testicles, makes semen. It also produces a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) which turns the semen into a liquid.
Prostate cancer symptoms:
With over 40,000 new cases diagnosed in the UK every year, prostate cancer (PCa) remains the most common cancer in men. Unfortunately, prostate cancer can remain silent for a long time. During the early stages, there may not be any noticeable symptoms at all.
In many cases, prostate cancer symptoms may only become apparent once the prostate gland is so enlarged that it begins to affect the flow of urine.
Some urinary symptoms include:
• Urinary frequency with or without reduced urine flow
• Urgency
• Blood in the urine and/or in the semen
• Burning sensation in the penis
Other prostate cancer symptoms which may occur include anemia, bone pain (back, hips and legs), erectile dysfunction, fractures, loss of appetite, weight loss and painful ejaculation. Although these symptoms do not necessarily mean that you will have prostate cancer, they are a good indicator that something may be wrong. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we recommend that you see your GP. .
Causes of prostate cancer
Whilst it is unknown what directly causes prostate cancer, there are a number of factors which can increase your risk in developing the condition.
These include:
• Age : Although the risk of developing prostate cancer increases with age, research shows that men aged 50 years or over are more likely to be diagnosed.
• Ethnicity : Prostate cancer is more common in African or African-Caribbean men
• Family history : if a close relative in your family has been diagnosed before they reached 60 years of age, your risk of developing prostate cancer may increase.
As with other cancers, the risk of developing prostate cancer can be increased if you lead an unhealthy lifestyle. There has been some research to suggest that those who exercise regularly and eat a healthy balanced diet, may be less at risk of developing prostate cancer.
