thinking about the time they sent me a seven year old autistic patient to investigate if he was suffering abuse because in every psychological test he kept drawing awful monsters

and I start the consultation already miserable as fuck and I give the kid some pen and paper so I can maybe communicate and see what's on his mind

and then I go WAIT A GODDAMN SECOND I KNOW THOSE MONSTERS

turns out the kid just had a special interest in Five Nights at Freddy's

I know this might be a bit of a hot take on the anti-makeup webbed site, but I think an under-discussed area of the whole "drag queen story hour" or all-ages drag shows or just anything that exposes kids to drag queens is exposing kids to what makeup CAN be

Growing up, makeup was always something that I viewed through a very straightforward, somewhat misogynistic lens. Makeup was perfectly matched foundation to smooth out your face and hide any pores, mascara to extend your lashes but not make the TOO dramatic, neutral eyeliner and eye shadow to emphasize your eyes. Nothing to make a statement, nothing more than the most basic of basics

In short, its only goal was to make you look conventionally attractive, to cater to society's idea of what women "should" look like. Men didn't wear makeup, either

I think that's a common image of makeup growing up, because that's what we see most often around us. On the faces of mothers and teachers and any woman around us

And then you put drag makeup in the mix

Drag makeup is loud and bold and exaggerated, colorful and stark and in your face. It defies every possible limitation society sets on makeup, from color palettes to gender. There's issues with beauty standards in drag, yes, but even those standards are pretty far outside the norm

And hot take, but I think this is something we should ABSOLUTELY exposing kids to. We should 100% be showing them that makeup isn't just something for conforming to society's idea of what a pretty woman should be like, but a tool of self-expression for all genders. To show it as an art form rather than a way to make yourself the most palatable version of yourself

Does this mean I think makeup should be mandatory, or that I'm casting judgement on women who wear basic makeup? Obviously not. But I think it helps a lot to expand what makeup CAN be in the minds of everyone, but children especially
