can't stop thinking about your videos on the retellings of theseus and the minotaur esp as someone who didn't have the best time with greek plays or other "older" texts (think shakespeare, frankenstein) in high school. planning on rewatching those videos + subscribing to your patreon soon bc i feel like you've opened this whole new world of literature to me. anyway i was just wondering if you had an intro video or reading list to essential myths (or horror) ? thanks for your time
I don't have an "essential reading/watching" list because what is essential or impactful and enjoyable for me might not be so for you, and vice versa. But I've curated some of the more popular Greek myths--as well as some Irish and Mesopotamian myths because I love those as well and they don't really get discussed as much.
Greek: The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Oresteia, The Aeneid, Antigone, Medea, Electra, Metamorphoses, Theseus, Hymn to Demeter
Irish: Táin Bó Cúalange, The Fenian Cycle, The Mythological Cycle, The Historical Cycle
Mesopotamian: The Epic of Gilgamesh, Descent of the Goddess Ishtar into the Lower World, Enūma Eliš
As for horror, these lists aren't necessarily of my favorites, but different horror media that I think is emblematic of and/or foundational to the genre. There are many different kinds of horror, some of which I like more than others, but hopefully this list can help you find something you like. (links are all free access to the media in question)
Books: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Dracula by Bram Stoker, Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, Perfume: The Story of A Murderer by Patrick Süskind, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin, Beloved by Toni Morrison, Books of Blood by Clive Barker, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff, My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix, The Girl With All the Gifts by M. R. Carey, Uzumaki by Junji Ito, Kindred by Octavia Butler, Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente, Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
Films pre-1960: Dracula (1931), Freaks (1932), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Frankenstein (1931)

Adora deserved so much better than what she got, like I need an episode where she just breaks down crying and letting everything out. I mean she had to watch all 3 of her mother figures die and 2 of them where using her that's traumatic enough but obviously that's not enough. She also had everyone she grew up with and probably ppl she considered family hate and try to kill her in such a short amount of time. Hardly anybody in the show payed attention to her well being and she was basically treated like a weapon throughout the show, can we also mention how she was only 17 when these things happened. She'd also have alot of body trauma from the fail Safe, probably the portal, battle etc. And they couldn't give her one father/mother figure that wouldn't die and would not be abusive smh. She's also treated as she can't function without catra in the fandom and she barely gets any recognition for how amazing she is and how smart she is, let's also mention the blatant victim blaming and abelism the fandom shows towards. Adora has Canon adhd and also displays alot of asd symptoms yet the fandom treats her like she's a baby who doesn't know anything when she's incredibly smart and incredibly cocky, she isn't a 'dumb jock lesbian' she's just adhd and autistic coded.

How did you manage to completely misinterpret what OP was trying to say? I am begging some of you to actually properly read what people say before typing a giant paragraph arguing against a point no one made.
The fan fiction culture of "no criticism allowed ever ever ever!" has seeped into fandom culture in general, to the point that anyone who analyzes media is dismissed as pretentious and annoying and I'd just like to say: it sucks

Do not talk about your abusive family on tiktok. Do not talk about your closeted identity on tiktok. Do not talk about your traumas and mental illnesses on tiktok. Do not talk about your plans to move out from your abusive household on tiktok. Do not talk about the ways you disagree with your bigoted family on tiktok.
Do not attach your face or voice to anything on tiktok that you do not want your family members, neighbors, coworkers, or classmates to see. Be smart and stay safe.

love the "oh. oh." moment in fics as much as the next person but can i also advocate for "stay?" reaching out to grasp for their wrist. the surprise, the anticipation, the acceptance... a confession disguised as a request.
