Loose Papers

A/N: Hello!! This is the first Twisted Wonderland fic I wrote, and it serves as an introduction to Yuushirou, one of my small handful of twst mcs :] Yuushirou uses he/they pronouns and is transmasc.

Summary: On the way back to Ramshackle from their last class, Yuushirou finds some papers strewn across the ground. Little did he know, these scattered assignments would allow him to meet someone special...

“You've got to be joking. You can't be serious. This is so freaking stupid,” Idia grumbled under his breath while clutching a stack of papers to his chest. “Why was I asked to deliver these assignments?? The teachers KNOW I have zero points in charisma. Get someone else to do this low level side quest, geez…”

As his angry muttering continued, the tips of Idia's blue flaming hair began to glow red underneath his hoodie. Noticing this, and not wanting to draw attention to himself (despite there being no one around), Idia took a steadying breath to calm down.

“Well, it's whatever ig,” Ignihyde's reclusive housewarden exhaled. “Trein DID let me pet that cutie patootie widdle Wucius for doing this.” Idia's voice naturally slipped into baby talk whenever he gushed about cats, particularly Trein's familiar, Lucius. For a moment, Idia was grinning ear to ear and giggling to himself thinking about how soft the cat's fur was. The next instant, however, he grew self-conscious, and the smile fell from his face as quickly as it had appeared.

Just as the fiery-haired student had finally steeled his resolve to deliver the assignments, a strong gust of wind threw the papers out of his arms. Though Idia's first instinct was to frantically scramble the papers together off of the ground, this was cut short when he froze suddenly. Someone was approaching. Not wanting to be seen flailing about on the floor, Idia's introvert-fueled horror drove him to dive into the nearest bush.

Hearing rustling, the passerby looked up from his handheld game. Seeing the scattered papers on the path, they glanced around, searching for anyone who may have lost them before approaching.

“It has been pretty windy today,” the brown haired boy slid the console into their back pocket. “Really hoping that whoever lost these isn't too far away. I was looking forward to gaming all night…” He sighed to himself, stooping down to gather the loose sheets of paper.

While gathering up the dropped assignments, the boy realized he felt a pair of eyes on him. They rose slowly, scanning their surroundings before settling on a bush with a conspicuous blue flame behind it.

“Uh, hey. I can see you.”

Hearing this, Idia wordlessly dipped down further toward the ground.

“Must have been the wind… Nah, I'm kidding. Your stealth isn't gonna work now that I've spotted you,” the boy tittered. “No need to worry; I'm not hostile.”

Idia immediately shot up from the bush, his face flushed. Placing the assignments he carried under his arm, he removed his tablet from his gargantuan pocket.

“Thanks for the help. Soz about hiding,” Idia typed swiftly, a custom text-to-speech voice speaking each word.

“No problem,” the boy smiled, handing over the papers they had collected. “I'm Yuushirou, by the way. You can call me Shirou if you want though.”

“Are you the prefect that everyone is going on about?” The voice from Idia's tablet inquired.

“I guess? I just got here a month ago, and I did sorta cause a fuss when I showed up,” Yuushirou laughed awkwardly, placing a hand on the back of his neck. “...and you are?”

“Oh, yeah. Right. I forgot. I'm Idia.” The flame haired boy held up the tablet in front of his face, attempting to hide his reddening cheeks.

“Wait, Idia?” Yuushirou's eyes widened. “Are you the housewarden of Ignihyde?”

“Uhh yeah. Why do you ask?”

“Ooh that's so cool! I heard that in Ignihyde, people love playing games as much as I do!!” Catching himself acting overly excited, Yuushirou cleared his throat. “Sorry if I freaked you out or something. I always get worked up when talking about my interests.”

“Same!!” Idia blurted out abruptly, covering his mouth shortly after realizing he had spoken aloud.

“Really? Glad to know I'm not alone in that then!” Yuushirou smiled sweetly. “Say, since you do enjoy games, how would you like to play some games from another world?”

“Waitwaitwait. You have games from whatever place you came from?” Idia's eyes sparkled with excitement, his forgotten tablet clutched in his hands.

“Yeah! They're mostly from one company since all my handhelds that stayed with me were made by them. There are some exceptions of course, like a few RPGs and indie games that I have. If you'd like, you're welcome to stop by Ramshackle Dorm whenever to play games! No pressure of course!!!”

“Whee hee hee,” Idia chuckled giddily. “Sounds good. Count me in.”

“Alright!” Yuushirou pumped his fist. “I need to get going, so let me know when you wanna hang out! I'm in Class 1-A seat 9.”

“Uhh... Why are you telling me your class??” Idia quirked an eyebrow before realization hit him. “Ah. You don't have a phone, do you?”

“Hahaha!! Nope! It really sucks,” Yuushirou laughed with a strained bitterness. “Now that I think about it, people just waltz into Ramshackle whenever they want, so you could do the same if you don't feel like leaving me a note.”

“That'd probably be easier for me. Less talking to people,” Idia exhaled, returning his tablet to his hoodie's enormous pocket. “I gtg too. See you. Um,” Idia ground his teeth as he fought against his anxiety in order to speak a few more words. “It was… nice meeting you, Shirou…” the tips of Idia's hair flared a light pink color as he dashed away from the social situation.

“See you!” Yuushirou waved, smiling to himself.
