I don’t know if I’m just weird or something, but yesterday at 1 am I was literally crying and you know why? because I was so overwhelmed by the two most marvelous things we have in this world. I don’t think people have any idea of how beautiful literature and music are. I mean, humans have done terrible things to this world, but if there’s something they, we actually, have done that brought beauty to this world is culture. maybe this doesn’t make any sense but, have u ever thought about how many books we can read? how much music we can listen to? what if there’s not enough time? I don’t wanna die knowing I didn’t spend my time searching for new songs and new books. I wanna immerge myself in culture. I want to read all Shakespeare’s works. I want to have children and pass down to them the passion for literature and music. and sometimes this love, this obsession it’s just too much and I almost can’t stand it. but please, all of u who are reading this thing a seventeen-year-old girl is writing, open your eyes and see how much beauty there’s in this sometimes awful world and worship it. quoting the movie “Dead Poets Society”: «but poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.»
(excuse me for any mistakes, English is not my first language)

the iliad: achilles mourning patroclus, missing his company, love, and the physical pleasures (yes sex) that patroclus provided with him, says that he will eat hector (cannibalism is usually reserved for the gods; therefore achilles would give up his humanity)
historians: haha they were such good friends!!!!
hollywood: COUSINS

You all need to watch Troy: Fall of a City, the new Iliad/Greek mythology adaptation on Netflix. There are a ton of significant characters of color, including Achilles, Patroclus, Aeneas, Zeus, Athena, Artemis, as well as others. It explicitly depicts the romantic relationship between Achilles and Patroclus, and Briseis also becomes part of a polyamorous triad between the three of them. There are Amazonians of color, there are lesbian Amazonians, there are Amazonians who are both.
It also happens to be one of the most faithful adaptations of the Iliad/Greek mythology I have ever seen, that actually mentions and gives narrative weight to the major players and follows the major points of the story beat for beat.
There’s a chance if it does well it will get a second season, and I don’t want to miss out on Agamemnon getting stabbed to death in a bathtub, Odysseus fucking around the ocean for 10 years getting his men killed and getting laid, and cinnamon roll Alfie Enoch’s Aeneas founding Rome. So, please, if you enjoy Greek mythology (and I know there’s a whole contingent on Tumblr that does), please go watch Troy: Fall of a City.

“This, I say. This and this. The way his hair looked in summer sun. His face when he ran. His eyes, solemn as an owl at lessons. This and this and this. So many moments of happiness, crowding forward.” ― Madeline Miller, The Song of Achilles

I shift, an infinitesimal movement, towards him. It is like the leap from a waterfall. I do not know, until then, what I am going to do. I lean forward and our lips land clumsily on each other. They are like the fat bodies of bees, soft and round and giddy with pollen. I can taste his mouth—hot and sweet with honey from dessert. My stomach trembles, and a warm drop of pleasure spreads beneath my skin. More.
