âI really like the concept of camping,â Mallory begins, huddled in her cloak with a sour expression on her face. Truth is, she is scared, and sheâs distracting herself from her fear with complaining. Itâs quite effective. âBut in reality â especially in this country â itâs just ⊠cold. And wet. And muddy.â She pauses, damning herself for leaving all her jumpers in her trunk. âJust not my scene, I guess.â
Ellie knows her sister, she knows that this is her trying to be positive ( Mal really tried so hard to keep her head above water, she always had even when there weights upon weights pulling her down ), trying to be the best person she can given the situation. Factually, it sucks. It doesnât matter that Ellie is fine with their surroundings, sees it as an opportunity to play some football on them, but she huddles closer to Mallory, laying her head on her sisterâs shoulder. âIâm happy weâre alive, but, this really isnât the most fun. You know I donât mind the mud, but I definitely donât like the idea of sleeping & waking to it. Are you doing alright besides that, Mal?â

âNo, you may not write to your mother, child. All families have been notified, so you can go back to your tent and make friends. Just pretend itâs a camping trip.â
âListen Homie, Professor Malfoy, slickest blonde haired professor -- dâyou have a black mother? Dâyou know what black mothers are like? She aint gonna trust the word of any owl or magical person, sheâs gonna need to hear from her FAVORITE and only son that he has not a single injury. I dunno if youâve been watching the news lately, man, but, sheâs gonna need to hear it from ME. Just stating cold hard facts. Plus, these wards are messing my up signal, yo. Câmon. Please. I needâta call her before she comes down here herself and whoops my arse.â

ASTORIA FELT DISAPPOINTED  â  disappointed that she hadnât the energy to attend this years Ogdenâs festival, a usual firm favourite of hers. Nevertheless, she hadnât spent the days moping around, she had gotten quite a lot done for the upcoming school year and for that, she felt accomplished, if not a little fatigued.  Nursing a glass of wine, her head turned towards the door as the gentle âclickâ caught her attention, and a  smile brightened her countenance.  â   How was it? Do come sit and tell me everythingâŠ. did you get to the Magical Beasts Petting Zoo?   â
âWell, I did, actually, and I think a lot of the younger kids liked it but I have to tell you, Tori, there was a lot of heavy petting between all sorts of people. In the bushes. If ya catch my wind.â Ginny laughed, as she went to go sit across from Astoria. âYou were definitely missed, though, definitely,â at least she was by Ginny and to her, that was enough. Astoria had proved a true friend over the years -- even when the years werenât kind to them. Sometimes it hit Ginny how lucky she was to have the people she did around her, to have so many people to love, even if it felt like she had more to lose. âIâd love to join you in drinking in the LATE AFTERNOON, actually. Only a glass though, I went far too hard my birthday weekend.â

âOr you can get all three, so long as you donât tell your maman,â Bill said. âI wish I couldâve joined you on that Italy trip. Alas, I was stuck in Egypt doing my job,â he said dramatically. âWeâll have to go to Italy together sometime. Sometime when we actually have free time, that is. Who knows when that next will be?â
âAll three it is, then! Iâll probably tell her and tell on you though,â she playfully bumped her shoulder with his and tried not to frown thinking about all the trips they missed together and werenât going to be able take in any near future. âItâs never been scarier, thinking about the FUTURE, has it? But weâll find a way to go. Or maybe I could bring Italy to you? Iâm sure we could ask around on how to make it.â

âOoh, she sounds frightful. No, that doesnât sound right, does it? I heard sheâs going to turn the other way and keep an eye out for trouble while her favourite little TROUBLEMAKER gets away with bedlam.â
âI knew I was your favorite! HA! Canât wait to rub this in Dom and Louâs face,â though, Vic would never & would never expect her parents to pick favorites. Especially between the fantastic siblings she had. âBut, okay, fair warning -- Iâm going to shut down that bloody god awful Tunnel of Love ride. Thatâs philanthropy! Not bedlam.â

âI wish time would stop just like this.â
Victoire did too. She felt safe with Asterion, and as though she could drop any sort of act she had to play like she did in front of the press or in front people she couldnât trust. Victoire could be ALL of herself with Asterion and in this moment, she felt content with who she was. Something she didnât always. âIf I had a pensieve, Iâd probably take this moment and watch it over and over again. Can you imagine what weâd be doing on weekends instead of trying to save the world? You could drag me to go shopping. Or to an opera. Something very normal but classy.â

âOi,â Mickey let out a breathless laugh, moving to engulf the girl before him in a hug. Relations, heâd come to find, were the biggest joy in his life. Well, with the firm exception of his immediate family, who was still trying to get accustomed to having one of their own reading everyoneâs minds. While things were still awkward at home, and things more torturous at school, there werenât very many places where Mickey felt completely at ease. With Riley, things were pretty simple. She understood what he was going through and only helped make it all easier for him. Heâd been so anxious to run into someone, to slip up and read into things he shouldnât, but it being Riley just took the edge off him.Â
Retrieving the brightly colored object off the ground, he shoved it into the confines of his bag once more, turning his full attention on his relative. An appreciative grin spread over his freckled face, falling into step beside her. âSounds perfect, lead the way. You have no idea how annoying these festivals can be when you can⊠You know. Drunk people think the stupidest thoughts.â He shuddered, recalling a couple of the things he listened into when he hadnât been occupying his mind with other things. âA quiet spot would be incredible right now.âÂ
âOh my god,â Riley laughed in Mikolajâs direction, a hearty laugh though she was also happy at the moment that sheâd sobered up quite a bit so Mik wouldnât be subjected to any of her strange drunken thoughts. âYou should really write some of those drunk people thoughts, if you could make them all out? Write a book out of it. Youâll make so much money.â Though, she also knew that there was a process heâd probably have through that would not only be arduous but, EXPOSE his abilities. Heâd have even more people trying to use him or worse, use him against his will and she decided to scrap that idea. âNever mind, you know, maybe do it in around 20 years if at all?â
They walked closer towards the Observation Wheel, the line into it quickly approaching them. âThe lineâs not bad at all. This thingâs massive.â It was still strange to process that Riley had family, that Mickey wasnât just a friend sheâd lose touch with after school ended that he was family. Real family. She was lucky to come to this brand new world with more family than she could imagine -- even if it was overwhelming. She hoped to be a moment of quiet for Mikolaj, she hoped to be a good cousin, a good friend, a good person around him because his family wasnât always the best they couldâve been -- and that made her mad. âHow many times have you solved that rubix cube? Do you ever get bored of it? Iâve never been able to solve those things.â

&& HER POINT MADE him think quietly to himself. Smirk instead of laugh? Was this a conscious choice they made? Were they embarrassed by their laughs? No -Fred tossed out that idea. If he knew one thing about Pixies, they were confident little shits and he loved them for it. After a while he nodded, âNow thatâs a scary thought.â He admitted. One could even laugh with their eyes if their voice couldnât manage, but a smirk wasnât a laugh, and well that made him nervous. âItâd be so sad not to be able to laugh. Maybe they can but no one can understand them because theyâre so different?âÂ
Fred smiled at the naming, âFormer pixies anonymous coming to you live from near the karaoke booth. Weâre small in number, but we like it that way. I like it that way, anyway.â People liked to assume he loved being the center of attention, but truthfully Fred assumed it took a certain kind of person to work in the spotlight and he was not one of them. âI know. Didnât know your last name was Goldstein but it has a nice ring to it.â He stuck out his hand towards her, âIâm Fred. Weasley. Number two.â He stumbled through his introduction, âYouâre good at ignoring people? Is that a skill that you mastered or something else? I get that. I guess my group is a little on the large side, but most of them are family and youâre stuck with those ones.â
âI know, like theyâre planning something mischievous with their smirks, goes towards them being scary and all,â Fredâs comment then made her think for a moment, because it would be sad not to be able to laugh -- that much in life Riley was sure about. âI like that much better than my stupid thought, maybe they laugh in their own frequencies? Maybe their farts are their laughter? Weâre going to have to figure this out because it really would be sad if they couldnât laugh.â She liked the way he thought, Riley was also sure of, she felt like she was talking to someone sheâd KNOWN for long time -- not an easy feat to accomplish with a usually very antisocial pessimist. It was probably the alcohol. Or the pot. But she didnât feel too blitzed.Â
Riley laughed again and nodded, âI like it that way too.â When he admitted he knew her name she was slightly surprised ( though, it made sense after six years of school together ). âIt does have a nice ring to it, right?â Shaking his hand, she smiled, âNumber two? Youâve got a clone somewhere?â Though, then Riley vaguely remembered some of the history she learned -- though names werenât her forte. The Weasleyâs were infamous blood traitors, celebrities really, but all the history on them mushed together due to playing catch up -- at the moment she didnât really want to think about it either. âA skill I have both MASTERED and done on accident, really, The latter came before the former and then I thought it would help cultivate my brand as detached awkward girl. Mysterious, too,â she joked, shrugging.âIâm not usually this good with talking to people. I mean Iâve had to work on it, but I suppose some people like to take the piss out of an American accent, rightfully so, and I found some good people I liked to stick with.âÂ
She could sort of relate to the family comment, though she knew that the Weasley clan seemed much closer in both blood and bond. âAh, yes, one of my best friendâs is actually a cousin of yours. Distant cousin. Iâve got a large family but we donât hang out all the time. Weâre all sort of distant but I guess Iâd say Iâm close with a few of them? Itâs ... nice. I think. Still getting used to it.â

Percy had never been shy of the fact that he had certain favourites - especially when it comes to his family. While he had never gelled well with his more athletic and vociferous brothers as a child, Ginny was someone who seemed to accept him without many questions. Even after all these years, it was her rather than his more emotional parents or excitable brothers he looked for first. âGinevra,â he sighed dramatically, leaning against the tent pole. âI would expect you of all people to pick somewhere more worthy than a clumsy bush.âÂ
Ah, Ginevra. He saw the grief etched in lines on her face: lines which had been barely visible before Harryâs death. He knew what it felt like to lose a spouse and as much as he wanted to broach the topic, he doubted whether they could both carry it through. Not today, at least. âWell Iâm glad I came on the last day. If I see any more of reckless drunk apparating, I might have to call my entire department on overtime.â The sad truth was that there was no trace of humour in Percyâs statement - he would have done it.
âOh, thatâs strange,â he mumbled suddenly, his hand slipping into his robesâ pocket. He seemed confused as he rummaged around before pulling out an Acid Pop. âHmm. Look what we have here.â He offered it with a flourish to his sister, a knowing smile playing on his lips. âWell, we donât want it being wasted, do we?â
âIâm not a classy broad, you know this, when the family caught wind of me snogging Dean Thomas in public in my youth and it nearly caught their knickers on fire,â she walked over to her brother, and took the Acid Pop from him, a grateful smile on her face as she bowed. They were good at this, quiet moments and teasing, being honest and also burying the truth when it was just too much to face. Ginny wasnât sure which side theyâd be on right now, her mood was predictably UNSTABLE but she knew that she was with a trusted person with her emotions, with her feelings, her thoughts. Percy knew what it felt like -- this brand of loss. âItâs like Iâm seven again, you giving me an Acid Pop when Iâm sad over something. Like most of the my brothers leaving for school.â It was all so simple then. The sadness could be fixed then.Â
âI donât have any candy for you, but I do have something else that may help you calm down a bit and leave your poor department alone,â pulling out a half empty bottle of Firewhiskey ( one she had smuggled in for obvious reasons ), âpoison free firewhiskey, Percy?â A morbid joke, one that slipped out and made it obvious as to what Ginny was thinking. What she was feeling. Sheâd jokingly talked about snogging a lover in the bushes, sheâd talked about people LEAVING, she talked about the past. Harry was on her mind, and she wasnât sober enough to keep her tongue from talking about him around the brother who the intricacies of her pain better than most. Sometimes, she felt that talking to George about losing a spouse was nothing compared to what he had lost -- but Percy knew. He also knew the guilt well. Â
âHarry didnât love this festival, he didnât hate it either. He didnât love large groups of people, actually, but heâd always BRAVE it. For the kids, for me,â she sighed, putting the Acid Pop in her mouth so she could unscrew the cap of firewhiskey. She took a sip, then handed it over to her brother. âYou donât have to share insanely personal thoughts, if you donât want to, but if you do I figured the firewhiskey would help.â

Iosef looked back at the woman next to him and sat back down, slouching over the bar. âYou are right Melody.â he replied, rubbing his forehead in frustration. âI do not know why I would be focus.. I am no one special.â he huffed, taking a gulp of his vodka.
A mischievous smile sprouted on her face, âoh, you know, they could always be a reporter writing another piece on âWhere is the Shacklebolt Family now?â They could be wondering what Iâm doing with a tall, dark, stranger at a bar. Maybe theyâre jealous that they canât be grabbing drinks with me.â Melody knew that it was a little ridiculous, but she was making a ridiculous joke. Getting attention from the media still was strange, but she was used to it, regardless. âIâve only got about 25 more minutes of my break left. Are you okay? You looked uncomfortable over here.â

the wizengamotâs session had run long todayâ-tedious arguments about taxes, budget allocations, and territorial disputesâthe squabbles clearly a front for the underlying tension plaguing their society as of late, and isaiah was expected to help steer the mostly-entitled body to some sort of consensus. in the end, theyâd adjourned early with no true agreement, and all isaiah had to show for it was a migraine currently making the area between his eyes throb as he waited in line at the tea cart right inside the ministry entrance. the wizengamot and the dmle had their own coffee station, but isaiah found it lacking, so here he was. he stepped forward, the person behind him overstepping and bumping into him. âthe line doesnât move that quickly, iâm afraid.â he said evenly, always evenly.Â
Adele hated waiting in lines, in fact, when she was younger sheâd try shamelessly cut people to get to the front. Now, she waited patiently, deciding not to make any sort of scene at the line that seemed to go on forever. Today she figured sheâd surprise Isaiah at his work with some coffee and a pastry, she knew that it was tedious. That his work nowadays especially was precarious because not only was the whole Wizarding World falling apart but it THREATENED their personal security as well. She hoped coming by Isaiah at his work would help his stress levels -- especially since she didnât have a showing until much later in the day. It was a domino effect, the person who bumped her had made her bump into someone else who bumped into someone else who then bumped into who she now saw to be Isaiah. It was confirmed when she heard his voice. Triumphantly strolling up next to him, she smiled and gave him a surprise kiss on the cheek. âIt wasnât even me pushing them, I promise.â

Neville huffed out a sigh of relief, the breath turning into an overly fond chuckle as he gripped his daughterâs arm gently in turn. âThatâs a good one, sweetheart. You really got my adrenaline pumping with that one. Your mother will undoubtedly take it better than I did.â But he had been willing to buck it up and do it, if that was what Jane had really wanted. âThe observation wheel does sound lovely. Far easier on your old manâs heart.â
âI donât know, she might, she might not. Sheâs seemed a little extra tense lately, I suppose everyone has, but sheâs going to be Matron this year. Sheâs amazing, really, like you, but Iâm just WORRIED.â In fact, she felt it again at the pit of her stomach -- worry. The more she thought about her family, the more she realized how close she could be to losing them and it the anxiety washed over her like a huge wave. Jane took a deep breath, though her smile fell. âI havenât heard a complaint about the observation wheel, though. No worries there.â

Leaning nonchalantly against a wall outside the maze, a playful smile rested on Ryderâs lips. He sipped from a suspiciously glowy beverage and when a familiar face came to view, a raised eyebrow could be seen from peaking out from behind the rim of his cup. âDo I dare?â he said, gesturing to the maze, âI think Iâd rather dare you. What do you think? Fancy a game of magical hide and seek?â
While Jane knew Ryder would most likely be at the festival, she did the most she could to avoid him. It wasnât that she didnât want to be near him but she thought it would make their time apart, this break, everything, easier. She wandered around by herself, and when she heard his voice daring someone ( a very scared looking twelve year old ) to go in the maze, play hide and go seek, she went into autopilot -- showing herself and starting to gently chastise himself. âYou donât need to drag this poor twelve year old boy into the maze with you, Ryder. Playing hide and seek, too? MAGICAL hide and seek? Maybe you could find someone your own age?â

&& FRED SNORTED LOUDER Â then he should have. He wasnât entirely sure what made him chuckle (( her question or the odd sound the pig like sound that erupted from his nostrils)), but it felt good to laugh. Someone -someone important probably- had once said laughter was the best medicine and Fred was inclined to agree. At least, laughing was good for the mind and the soul, but he would never try to laugh away a broken rib. Not again, anyways. âDo you reckon pixies can laugh?â He wondered aloud before his mind circled back to her question, âI can sing, not well, but I can hold an off-tune long enough to call it singing. I donât think anyone would find it nice to listen too, though.â Fred glanced in the personâs direction, with an amused smile on his face âBut if you were a pixie in another life too, then you are also scary, yeah? Maybe its all of these people that should be scared of us former pixies, because we donât hurt other pixies do they?â
âI feel like pixies smirk instead of laughing,â his laugh was INFECTIOUS, she couldnât help but smile as he snorted, surprised that what she said was funny as to someone else as it was to her. She really hadnât been trying to make a joke joke, but it was better than getting a reply that was rude or rigid. âFormer pixies anonymous, where we all cry about the fact that we have average singing voices, weâre nonviolent & proud and arenât scary no matter how hard we try.â Riley wasnât always good at social interaction, but he made a few jokes and she liked where his mind was. A little anxiety provoking it was, but it wasnât as bad as it couldâve been. âIâm Riley. Riley Hayes. I guess, Riley Goldstein now? Yeah, so, Riley Goldstein. Weâre in the same year but Iâm fairly quiet and good at ignoring people. Sort of stay in my little group most of the time.â
