I do like to think about the what if enji had learned his lesson sooner, if he realized all he really wanted was his family and to ensure the future of his kids. The world where the kids grow up together, where touya joins endeavor accepting his limits and becoming a pro. Them both showing up to the sports festival for shoto, the reason he’s so angsty here not because of family trauma but because he knows how his father will be embarrassingly cheering for him with cries of shoto as touya does what big brothers do and remind him he’s the baby of the family.
WE COULD HAVE HAD THIS
FUCK YOU ENJI ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS SHOW UP AND THE WORLD WOULD HAVE BEEN THIS MUCH BRIGHTER 😭😭😭

Yeah but that’s the best part about art, even if the author has a very specific way they want you to interpret something or has set in stone how things are, once it’s out in the world everyone can take it or interpret it anyway they want. Even if the author never intended something to be taken a certain way or is completely oblivious to the fact it can be taken that way there’s nothing stopping you from taking it that way. Even if it contradicts canon or it goes against what the author intended it’s art and you can do what you want with it. That’s why it’s so fun extrapolating from canon or thinking up what ifs or thinking of the implications.
Endeavor Deserves No Sympathy!
I don't understand how anyone can think Endeavor was ever a good dad. It also always comes off as incredibly victim blamie, especially towards Touya, and often Shoto too.
He literally only got married and had kids to use them. He never gave a shit about their well being, never even thought about it until he had the one thing he cared about and was still miserable. I've already gone over the math proving he gave up on achieving his dream himself at 21 at the absolute latest. (https://www.tumblr.com/arceus-insanity/763259515356512256/i-liked-endeavors-character-when-he-was?source=share)
And basic math will once again be used to prove just how little this waste of flesh actually tries.
This time the focus is on how quickly he abandoned Touya and immediately went to emotional abuse via neglect & literally replacing him, and once again risking that more children be born with self-destructive quirks.
For context we only see Endeavor doing anything with his kids that's not him literally walking through and ignoring them in two circumstances. Once when Fuyumi's a newborn and Touya is attempting to crawl (not walk) over to her. And training. Those are the only times he tries to spend with any of them, even after he starts his 'atonement'
Now comparing Touya in the scene of them training and himself as a toddler and all the child imagery this series loves to use instead of actually saving imperfect victims, Touya is at least 3 (probably closer to 4) when he's taken to the doctor and they are informed of his condition
Natsuo is 4 and a half years younger than him.
We know for a fact Natsuo (& Shoto) was conceived after they got the news, not willingly either. Pregnancy takes 40 weeks average, so Touya would still be 3 when Natsuo was conceived. So once again it took this 'man' less than a year to give up and have another child he hoped to use as a tool, and was explicitly making to hurt his existing son. And as I have said plenty of times before, risking that the new kids could be born with the same disorder, I hate how convenient it is that Shoto gets near zero negative quirk side effects.
Want to know what we never see, Endeavor doing something else with Touya and Touya demanding training, it's always him walking past/ away from Touya. Considering all of the shit they've pulled to soften Endeavor's abuse both in the manga and even more so in the anime, they wouldn't skip something like this. It's not hard to tell that Touya's 'obsession with training' is really about spending time with his dad, you know like a human child that literally needs love, proven by numerous studies and research in the real world.
He throws all parenting responsibilities onto Rei, adds more children to that load, and when Touya suffers for it (like everyone else) he does nothing, doesn't even hire a nanny
Another are you kidding me take I've seen is that somehow Touya's quirk issues are worse than Midoriya's and Yuga's. Touya managed to train his quirk to produce blue fire at 13 with zero equipment and less than no help, and only lost control of it, because of the mental abuse Endeavor had inflicted on him leading him to a mental breakdown. And/ or the theory I've only seen once of AFO using his ability to force quirk activation (seen with a passed out chapter 90 during his first confrontation with All Might)
Midoriya was breaking his bones all the way into the Shie Hassaikai arc and was only able to fight because Eri and was breaking support equipment in the following arc as well. Yuga had a support belt all the way back in the entrance exam and was still struggling with that.
Speaking of Yuga let's compare parental effort here, because as much as it backfired Yuga's parents tried a whole lot more. For starters they nearly bankrupted themselves to get him a quirk, so he could feel equal. All For One is a mythic man prior to his arrest, and those who knew of him were shown to be serious long-term villain groups, so they had gone to quite a bit of effort to find that he existed to begin with. They also got him support gear (the navel belt thing) as a kid to help him with said quirk, he literally had it in the entrance exam. Endeavor never looked into that, Endeavor is not only rich too but he's a top hero he would have direct access to support equipment companies that would jump at the opportunity and it never even occurred to him.
Endeavor's name is an irony as endeavour means to try hard to do or achieve something. He never tries hard he gives up incredibly quickly the second there's any road block, but instead of moving on he makes everyone suffer for it. He's a toxic pageant mom who'd rather force their child into a toxic world and a role they don't want than work on himself
And what finally makes him change? Getting exactly what he wanted and still being miserable, and he still expects through his actions his family to cater to him.
Not his son getting a major disability due to his actions, no, he decided to double down, mentally abusing and neglecting the son he supposedly loves, raping his wife who didn't want more kids or participate in this abuse, and again risking that Natsuo & later Shoto might have that same issue. Not when his wife breaks down and permanently scars his precious masterpiece, who proceeds to rightfully blame him, and he just thinks of it as a tantrum despite it lasting a fucking decade. Not when his eldest literally dies as the result of his selfishness. Not literally during any part of this entire process!
Dabi is 23 when Endeavor finally starts to 'try' to be better, that means that for at least 24 years he has only been caring about his fucking precious number one spot in a popularity contest that he couldn't even bother to try to be likeable for, this wasn't one bad decision, this was him constantly choosing to be so insanely selfish that he found ways that shouldn't even be possible for over two decades. And it was all him.

Random headcanon: the reason that Peach and Bowser don’t seem to get a lot of respect in some Super Mario games is because the Mushroom Kingdom is kind of a rural backwater and isn’t terribly important or influential politically, so people tend to regard Bowser as a C-list villain for being so hung up on such an insignificant conquest. Nobody really expects Bowser to be a serious threat – that would be like expecting a guy whose main claim to fame is repeatedly failing to conquer Wyoming to be a serious threat – so they get taken by surprise every single time.

Mr compress was caught in the first war battle, I was talking about the four of em that went into the second war.
I can’t say what horikoshi had planned and what he changed just what he put out in the end. He could have had everything planned out from their first appearances or changed everything week to week. In the end he had spinner realize he was only following whoever he followed at the moment cause of their charisma, again if you saw them as charismatic or not the author intended them to be, and a desire to take on their dream. Yeah it’s one messy flashback but that’s what horikoshi settled on by the end his friendship with shigaraki and the league.
Oh yeah I mean anything can be made cool or epic if you want it to be, just looking at hawks who has wings but can do way more than just fly with em, it just so happened he went with gecko for this one by chance. Could have just as easily been a horse or an ostrich or iguana or a tuna. Or vice versa he could have made someone like mirko ryukyu selkie or gang orca a gecko.
How excatly are to going to handle spinners quirk in your rewrite, canon only gave him the ability to wall crawl when geckos can do so much more than that, I made a post regarding all the cool gecko abilities he would have had ( many of which fit in perfectly sith his ninja style) and was wondering how you would handle his quirk, because it had the most potential out of all the leagues quirk in my opinion. (Sorry if I getting too ahead here)
Hello!

I can answer this, as it's less related to plot and more of a character-based idea, which can be explored without spoiling anything. So, coming up first, we have:
1. Acrobatics
Geckos are known to be very acrobatic - something Spinner is sort of in canon, but it's a lot more than a bit in this rewrite. The setae in his feet, (the microscopic hair that allows him to stick onto surfaces), can absorb energy and repel it, which can be used for a variety of moves, whether it be escaping a situation or launching himself at an enemy.
2. Sticky Feet
This one is canon compliant, as the ask makes clear. However, to note, this only works in environments where the air is humid enough for the satae on his feet to soften and deform. It can work in drier environments but not to the same effect.
3. Tail
Geckos are actually able to regrow their tail! They fall off very easily, due to the way they grow onto the body - as something only tagged on, not directly attached. If it's been caught or something, geckos are able to remove that tail and regrow it at a later time.
But speaking of detaching the tail, the tail is actually able to move on its own for about 20-30 minutes after being detached, which can make for a surprise weapon or ally or even just a distraction.
Then there's also the fact that tail help the gecko with balance and reconfiguring their bodies when they fall. You know the whole, 'cats always land on their feet'? Yeah, that applies to geckos, and thus Spinner, too.
4. Water Repellant
Geckos are able to repel water, to an extent. While this is done to help clean their bodies, there are other uses Spinner could use this for, other than general cleanliness.
-
That's mostly what I have at the moment. Nothing too impressive, but not as lackluster as canon-Spinner. I was mostly focusing on the tail aspect, if that wasn't obvious enough. A gecko's tail has a lot of aspects and stuff, and it was really cool to find out about.
I hope this isn't disappointing, but a proper quirk analysis for him will be posted when we get there. :)

But deku did mention he wouldn’t be able to escape while protecting kota. Unlike with stain who wasn’t trying to kill him muscular was. That’s why he said his only chance is to take him down and when that failed he had to settle on just blocking muscular so kota can get away.
And oh yeah man it’s all art people can enjoy it however they want I was just curious.
MHA Volume 33...not going to enjoy most of this I bet
Why does Bakugou get to have an opinion about Izuku? Many of Izuku's issues are Bakugou's fault! Society as a whole bears some responsibility but for real...Bakugou was the on-site bully...and not only toawrds Izuku.
Also...trying to bring Izuku in by attacking him? Way to make him feel "loved". Maybe it's not the "right" call for him to be a loner, but it's Izuku's choice.
Plus this whol series has been a confusing mass of "don't rely on others" and "rely on others" with Izuku forever being the one punished for not picking right each time.

Yo that’s an interesting take on the muscular fight, mind if I ask why deku just wanting to beat muscular works as the motivation there? For me that fight is one of my favorites in the entire show cause it plays into power of friendship/to protect something that shonen loves. The way deku is fighting to save this little boy, he’s fully willing to give his life to save him and he’s the inspiration to allow him to go even further beyond and beat muscular.
As for the other parts yeah it’s a weird mixed bag cause it’s a battle shonen and they love their one on one prize fights but still it’s the power of friendship and team work. The theme often being everyone has a part to play and they only win by playing it, resulting in the typical anime thing of people breaking off to handle a threat and let the others move on. So people have their own fights either one on one like suneater or doubles like fat gum and red riot. And even the final overhaul fight multiple people fought him but they fought him one at a time to get to that victory with the final fight being deku with eri. Or the way they build the victory against gigantomachia the first time, everyone chipping away at him.

Yeah his story is about finding acceptance and something to care about, outgrowing his trauma and growing up. It’s part of why he’s the soul surviving league member from the war.

Yeah spinners story wasn’t about him becoming powerful or being a threat, since when he does get power and becomes a threat it’s a bad thing for him that’s hurting him, he was meant to be an outsider longing for a place to belong and a dream for the future. At first he latches onto stain then shigaraki as a follower with it culminating in no longer being just a follower looking for a purpose in life but dork one who found a place to belong and people to care about. That’s why his biggest focus is his relationship with shigaraki, he’s his closest friend and he loves him. He’s not doing what he’s doing simply to have a purpose anymore, he’s doing it to help out the person he cares about.

Yeah he has very specific ideas on how he wants characters to show off their powers. He wants them to fulfill certain roles and to do that he gives them powers and abilities in accordance with that. If it doesn’t help fill that role or serve a specific purpose he tends to ignore it or not add on to it.

I was using tokoyami and hawks as examples of how horikoshi will also take one animal aspect and make it the focus of something but to varying degrees since there appears to be a sliding scale of how much he uses. Tokoyami just has a bird head for no reason and it doesn’t affect anything really. Then we have hawks who only has wings but they go above and beyond what animals are capable. And even like tokage again whose quirk and name are references to something lizards do but her quirk isn’t treated as being an animal quirk.
Also I do think horikoshi intentionally didn’t give spinner more abilities, only giving him the ability to stick on walls because he was meant to be lackluster and have a weak quirk since it’s part of his story. Using tsyu as an example he gave her her quirk and then continue to add more as time went on, giving her camouflage during the licensing arc. So we know if he wanted to he could have given him more abilities by enhancing his quirk as it is at any time , he just didn’t want to do that till afo gave him more quirks.
Now that is an interesting one to think about, at his core endeavor didn’t want the title or position of number one he wanted to be number one. He reminds me of jiren from dragon ball super in that he is seeking to be the ultimate pinnacle in strength. Without the ranking system all might would still be just a powerful would still save as many people and would still be the symbol of peace. Would seeing that without a ranking system to measure them be enough to get him to see the gap between him and all might? Or would he simply ignore him as a smiling fool and focus on his own growth instead. Instead of having a family to surpass him would he have ended up just a regular workaholic dad?
I just realized something
Endeavor probably would have never performed his eugenics project if there had been no Hero ranking system. Because he wouldn’t have believed he was inferior to All Might. Sigh….

It’s interesting there does seem to be a clear divide in how some animistic traits manifest with certain quirks. Like certain aspects are focused on while others might only be a single aspect. Like you mention the tail regrowing and I’m reminded we already have someone with a quirk based on that alone, in class 2b tokage has the quirk lizard tail splitter which lets her split off parts of her body control them and regrow them. Then with tokoyami who just has the bird head and no other animal trait or ability, hawks same with only the wings but going beyond and being able to control them individually. It really feels like there’s a gradient in how much a quirk manifests like lower end being tokoyami and spinner and higher end being like selkie froppy and gang orca who get many aspects amplified by their quirk and then even further beyond those like hawks who just have a super upgraded variant of an animal trait. Which tracks with other quirks being of varying power despite being the same type, like super strength elemental powers like fire water and electricity.
Yeah he did change the way it was shown is from the sports festival he got started on working to separate himself from his father, viewing his fire as his own god given ability instead of just being endeavors fire. The rest of the series is then him basically trying to play catch up with his fire quirk since he neglected it for so long he can’t use it as well as his ice culminating in his own cold variant for flash fire fist. In the licensing exam it was his difficulty working with others, he’s always excelled by himself and given the wide area of effect his quirk has it was easier if he didn’t have to worry about friendly fire. The thing he then has to work on is his teamwork and interacting with other people and how best to work together with the added lesson of even if he’s changed things that happened in the past still happened. This gets shown off in the remedial lesson where they work together while showing off how much more advanced his ice control is being able to shape it somewhat compared to his fire. Yeah the stain arc was meant to be building up their friendship and specifically the bond with deku and Iida that’s why the three of them were the only work studies in the same area, everyone else could only report the message to heroes to try to get them backup while deku and shoto were already there for plot reasons to help. After that shotos story was more family related so we got less interaction with those outside of his family, the few moments being with the characters he’s closest to like bakugo and deku being their for their awkward family dinner or when they’re talking before hanging out before the final war.
Hi, I was wondering about shoto Todoroki before going to be so this may sound a bit nonsense but ...did Shoto really changed or the narrative tricked us?
I want to preface I have no beef with Shoto, this is not a Shoto slander nor hate. I'm curious bc his storyline could have been great haven't be allowed to be.
My thing with Shoto is...his big changing moment is when Izu said "it's your power, bit his" and cool moment, Shoto used his fire and won. I have grievances on how Izu sacrificed a win (I admit I don't think he could have won against Shoto nor BK should but moving on) and got...nothing. Look, not saying Izu should be reward for every little thing but after that moment we could have got a Shoto and Izu friendship (to justify why the fuck Shoto would give his backstory to a complete stranger. Srsly he and Izu were non entities prior the moment)
And yes, Shoto get brownie points for helping Izu in the stain arc. That was nice of him - it set him apart from class A1 who ignored his calls/message "ah but his message was a mess" maybe so but no one shows concern for him! Izu is not someone who cries wolf. Plus they were in patrol.
But ...after that, it seems the character didn't change. He still wants to be a hero. I wouldn't understand if Shoto couldn't stop being hero bc of his father...bc he fears him, let's be real Shoto was a minor and Endy is violent and powerful enough to make his life awful if Shoto decides to be anything else...very convenient shoto wants to be a hero.
In the license arc, Shoto didn't get the license. We do attribute this to Inasa being an entitled fan...but is that just this? Does Shoto helped the others? Acted like a hero? I still remember moments of that anime and in this arc I don't remember Shoto being a team player...I could misremember here.
He makes no friendship, certainly not with Izu. I would argue he befriend BK and that is a Freudian slip - yes, let's blame hori and this is correct as Shoto should hate BK since he hates his father.
There a oneshot to explain the movie "Izu you are a mass murder" where Shoto looks amazed at BK destroying smth of Izu. As if Endy never did smth similar to him in the past which for sure happened.
Its just ...I don't think Shoto changed or had to change.
Izu ...sort change...for worse. He started the story thinking he is worthless. Ended thinking he is a loser- he voiced that, canon. And can only be a hero if someone, his lifelong abuser, handed him a magical suit. Its something so sad bc it fits perfectly on the whole "character hallucinate everything you see in the story"
Something @thr0wnawayy mentioned about Izuku's delusion stuck with me bc...it makes sense.
Not sure why I'm talking about shoto. You could argue many characters didn't change or got worse.
Ochako now is a superficial bitch. Even if hori makes Izuocha canon with kids and marriage ...he will still write Ochako being passive aggressive with Izu, people will joke the kids aren't his - cucko Izu was big and while decreased, it never stopped.
Class A1 is how a bunch of fake friends who only call Izu when they need something. Izu just accepts this is his life.
We read this manga expecting him to be a great hero...and we have this "happy ending" where it would be kinder if Izuku had died along side Shig.
That...makes me think. A lot.
Tô any novice writers reading this...you can fall in love with a character, you can fall out of love with a character but be professional. Think of the story and...don't be a Hori.

Oh my god I would love to see a vlad raising toga that would be so cute. Vlad needs more love.
In one of my rewrites, I'm thinking of making Touya and Himiko heroes. As for Himiko, I'm thinking of having her adopted by a hero. As for Touya, I have some ideas for him. But I'm thinking of making him Shoto's twin, but unfortunately for him, he was born with a problem with his Quirk, while Shoto was born perfect. I'm also thinking of having him develop a friendship with Izuku. What do you think of this idea?
If you're gonna have himiko be adopted by a hero, I would totally recommend having vlad King adopt her.
That way, you can explore different mha blood users and truly have someone who understands himiko and loves her as a paternal figure.
Vlads hero name is heavily inspired by dracula, and from what we see, he is very kind and gentle with both his students and animals alike.
We don't know much about vlad, but you can definitely show any discrimination he could have experienced due to his quirk, or you could show how he is a dog person and contrast or parallel that with himiko.
On another note, making touya and shoto twins is an interesting idea. I see that you're going for the classic yin yang twin trope, which is a classic. You have it with occur a lot in demon slayer and jujutusu kaisen.
Polar opposite twins would sure raise the stakes and heavily strain touya and shoto's relationship. It is heavily implied in Canon that touya was born prematurely and struggled a lot as a child in various factors due to either genetics or the way he was raised craving validation from enji and doing anything to get it.
Having Touya and Izuku develop a friendship between one another is an amazing idea. I say this because of the number of parallels that those two share!
The validation that they crave, them never being the chosen ones and always being the forgotten ones, them being the outcasts of their class, them looking up to enji and all might, them both having a quirk that harms their bodies but going to dangerous degrees to use it. One using the quirk to help people the other to destroy.
There's so many similarities they share! A friendship between the two would lead to various character development for them, such as having them question why they want to be heroes? Developing further nuanced views about the respective heroes they look up to and generally probably seeing each other in one another.
@mikeellee fic besties au explores the parallels and a friendship between izu and dabi!

That’s an interesting read on it, when I first read it I took it as the point being the other students are frustrated the problems the hero course and 1A are having are impacting them too despite they had no control over those events. So instead of trying to focus on appeasing cause that would come as a slap in the face from the people they’re blaming them they should just focus on doing the best they can.
Somehow Bakugou managed to make this speech half insightful and half navel gazing projection.
Because on one hand, he's right that Class 1A had an uphill battle because the rest of the school generally didn't like them. And he's right to tell Jirou not to get too preoccupied by what other people think. Good art isn't going to come from someone constantly thinking about about how their art is going to be perceived. The manga may also be trying to tie this into the idea of saving as a mutual act.
But on the other hand, the stuff about living in their own world, not wanting to accept help from people they hate, the victim blaming, and lashing out instead of making friends is all Bakugou projecting his own issues on Class 1A. Some of Bakugou's main character flaws are that he refuses to see the world outside of himself and that he is too quick to resort to violence. Bakugou blamed himself for being captured by villains and in turn also blamed 1A for continuing to be attacked by villains. Bakugou is the status quo and the status quo from All Might's era was that heroes always saved. From society's pov, Class 1A is a problem as they are future heroes who keep needing to be saved.
But also, Bakugou was still trying to fit this into the schema of they don't like us because we weren't strong enough so let's get stronger. He was completely ignoring some of the other factors at play as to why the rest of the school hated Class 1A. It was not all because of regressive mainstream views and the League. Bakugou and Shouto's arrogant behavior during the sports festival was probably the rest of the school's main impression of Class 1A. Bakugou believed the problem was his physical weakness when the primary issue was his self-centered arrogance.
