as fate would have it, in your fifth year, the slytherins and gryffindors had joint care of magical creatures

and so of course, there’s a lot of sabotaging and hexing happening in that class

it’s not even a house gryffindor vs slytherin thing

you just dOn’t like zeren and his friends

anyways !! you and your friends rlly dread that class

and the professor is one of those ‘why can’t everyone get along !!!’ people

in any other circumstance, you’d be fine with that attitude, but you knew that there was no way that you’d get along with zeren

and as fate would have it, the two of you are paired up for a project that yall are working on

in the first five minutes of class yall manage to destroy three flobberworm habitats and jinx each other

after the professor scolds the two of you for like AN HOUR

the two of you mutually agree to stop fighting

(but you definitely still bicker over pretty much everything)

zhangjing and yanjun talk hella smack abt him and his friend group lmao

and then one day

you get to class a little earlier than usual

and you see zeren already there

he plays quidditch, so he’s v good w brooms and flying

and you spot him flying up in the air with thestrals???

he’s playing w them and tossing chunks of meat in the air for them to catch

kinda gross

but as he lands, hair all messy and disheveled, you find yourself thinking that he’s actually kinda cute ????

you immediately gag at the thought, mortified that something like that would even occur to you

but as the weeks go by

you find those kind of thoughts occurring more and more

until it hits you that wow, you really have a crush on ding zeren ????

and you’re kinda unsure abt telling zhangjing n yanjun tbh

just bc you know how much they dislike zeren ?

and you still him irritating !

just in a kinda cute way??

anyways ur not slick and the two figure your crush out pretty quick

so they start doing stuff during care for magical creatures to annoy you

like stealing ur dragonhide gloves so that you have to borrow zeren’s

or jinxing a hole in your sweatshirt so that zeren offers you his own

but then oNE day

you and dumb+dumber are in the library studying like the good children you aren’t

when zhangjing and yanjun start teasing you about your crush

loudly

like the dickheads they are

and the one and only fucking fan cheng cheng POPS OUT FROM BEHIND A BOOKSHELF WITH THE CREEPIEST EXPRESSION

“you like zeren ge?”

and rumor has it that you zhangjing and lin yanjun died in the hogwarts library

you spend the next day stressing abt facing zeren in class

because you KNOW about fan cheng cheng’s bigass mouth 

so you’re standing awkwardly by the pumpkin patch

(yanjun and zhangjing are a few feet away, still terrified of you)

“h-hey, (y/n)?”

you spin around to see zeren shove something at you hastily, his cheeks kinda red

(who would have known that ding zeren gets flustered this easily ?!?)

and it’s to this concert for The Remembralls in Hogsmeade the next weekend

“i thought maybe, um, you’d wanna go?” zeren blurts out quickly, “like a date! like not as friends! cuz i think you’re hot and i wanna date you!”

you almost die of laughter from his word vomit

but you just accept the tickets instead, a huge smile on your face

“aw, look at the couple!”

“wow, goals.”

you turn to glare at zhangjing and yanjun, effectively shutting them up, before scooching a little closer to zeren, letting your shoulder bump into his

zeren stiffens for a second before he glances down at you with a small smile, leaning slightly into you

bonus:

“ge, please.”

“i just can’t!” zeren groaned, rolling over onto his stomach

zeren’s friends were all out on the grass by the black lake

“(y/n) is just so cute when they’re flustered!! i actually canNOT? i’m dying?”

“zeren, you’re not dying, stop being dramatic.”

zeren got up with a gasp

“is the zhu zhengting telling ME to stop being dramatic? the audACITY?”

but in my defense, ive written like 25+ hp aus for broduce and im so wiped out from coming up w story ideas in the verse tbh. i do love a good cliched enemies to lovers slytherin/gryffindor trope. it’s not like two of the most popular hp ships are in that trope. what.
