That’s his problem. Buck always manages to make the calls personal, even if they are so far behind his realm of reality. He always makes them about himself, he had been told this way too many times already. And he’s trying to change, he really is. But then there are moments like these in which a little girl needs saving and Buck blurs the line between what’s his job and his own need to be there for everyone he meets. His need to fix everything. So he stays there, just for that first surgery he keeps reminding himself, just to make sure she makes it out of the ER. Just to make sure Hen is right and she is in good hands. And a few hours later, when she makes it out and the doctor’s look around the waiting room for Cassie’s parents without all the context Buck already has, he stands up. On instinct. Barely even a lie. He couldn’t count it as one when he hadn’t spoken at all. He just stands up. He stands up and he follows the doctor to the ICU.

In which Buck worries about the little girl he just saved from a fire, and he gives her a home in his arms.

Update - 07/11/2025

Hello old friends! Life has been insane, school and work took over everything, but I am so happy to announce that I have officially graduated my EMT program!!!

I now have a bit more free time to actually read and make post now! To start off I am going to go back to my original schedule of 4 posts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That being said I might switch it to 1-2 posts Monday-Friday, but I am unsure at this point.

All that to be said, post will pick back up a week from Monday July 14th. So, the first fic rec will be posted on July 21st.

Harry has long since disappeared into his room to text his friends but May is sitting on the floor of the living room with half a dozen bottles of nail polish spread out in front of her.

She looks deep in thought, taking the task of choosing a color very seriously and Buck grins.

“The yellow,” he says, drying his hands on a towel before walking over to where she’s sitting. May looks up at him, surprised, as if she’d forgotten he was there.

She looks back down at the bottles. “Maybe,” she says.

Buck sits on the armchair across from her. “It’s a good color for your skin tone,” he explains.

May raises a single eyebrow at him, eyes scrutinizing him. “What would you know about nail polish mister macho fireman?”

He was surprised that Bobby’s son hadn’t come up when Michael first mentioned his children given how much emphasis he put on the positive co-parenting relationship their family unit strived to maintain. But then again – Buck was obviously much older than Michael and Athena’s two children if he had a child the same age as Harry. The step/co-parenting dynamic would clearly be completely different than it was with May and Harry.

Eddie had been at the station less than a week before Hen and Chim wrangled details about his “hot young thing” from him (“Buck is only 4 years younger than me, he is not a ‘hot young thing’!” Eddie complained.)

And Bobby was open about his worries for his son’s lack of direction and the secrets he appears to be keeping (“I just wish I could help Evan find the thing that gives him purpose,” Bobby lamented.)

It just made it all the more ridiculous (and horrifying) when Eddie realizes he’s been dating his Captain’s son this whole time (“Defiling his baby,” Chimney cackled, because he clearly wanted Eddie murdered.) -- Or, the AU where miscommunication abounds as Eddie seeks advice about his new relationship, Bobby despairs over his adopted son's career prospects and his refusal to talk about it, and Evan Buckley-Nash juggles training at the fire academy, building a family with his new boyfriend, and trying to work out how to tell his overprotective dad that he's already chosen the life he wants, actually.

It takes a goddamn tsunami, of all things, to get the story straight.

Update - 3/14/2025

Hey y'all! So, sorry for the lack of post. School is in full swing for me and its only gonna get worst.

Posting shall return Monday March 17th and continue as normal until Friday April 4th. After that I start clinicals in addition to work and school.

Starting Monday April 7th I will be posting twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. This will stay the schedule until I find more free time.
