Last Day of School!
Dear Parents,
We can't believe that today was the last day of school! It has been wonderful to watch your children learn and grow everyday in our classroom. We will sorely miss your children over the summer, and can't wait to see them in fall! Below are some pictures from this week.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful summer break!
All the best,
Einav, Tali, Alix, and Nora

7-9 Lavan Highlights and
Questions of the Week
Week of June 3, 2019
Learning Highlights and Questions
Language Arts: Alix’s group is working on getting their fairy tales ready for publishing. We’ve been focusing on knowing when to end our writing, recognizing that we can always just write a new story if we have so much to say! Writers have also been setting writing goals at the beginning of each workshop, and reflecting afterwards at how satisfying it feels to set a goal, work hard to meet it, and either accomplish it or continue working at it.
Nora’s group has also been getting ready to publish their fairy tales. We have been making sure our story has all the elements of a fairy tale. Students are hard at work revising and editing their works for publication.
 Math:
Earth/Wind: This week the students finished solving word problems involving counting money and making change. The students were required to use their previously learned skills of the different steps to solve a word problem. This week the students were also working on their projects for the celebration of learning. They were all presented with three tasks from which they could choose one to complete. The tasks are based on different math skills that they’ve acquired this semester.
Fire/Water: This week the students put the finishing touches on their projects for the celebration of learning. They also began writing a reflection of their thoughts about the playground task that they completed. Most students had positive things to say and felt it helped them grow as a math learner.
 Yahadut:
Both groups continued learning about the brain in relation to what drives our decision making process. We learned about the different brain regions, which peaked everyone’s interests. As a conclusion to this larger discussion, each student reflected on how he/she can use emotion to connect to the Torah in some way, and what might feel hard about doing that at times. Our reflections will be in a song that we can’t wait to show you! We also learned about the different customs that some families perform on the upcoming holiday of Shavuot. In addition, we read the story of Megillat Ruth, focusing on the kindness that Ruth displayed.
Chumash: Alix’s group is demonstrating all of their textual skills they’ve amassed over the course of the year by working on preparing a comic book strip that depicts the unit we just learned: the conversation between God and Avram.
Nora’s group is hard at work creating their puppets and script for the celebration of learning!
Ivrit: This week, each students wrote a letter to his/her parents. We learned where to write the address on the envelope (in Israel it is different), and each child drew a special stamp on it.
We read the letters to each other and the students gave feedback to their friends.
.
Cultural: We are working hard to prepare our map of Australia so that our families can “visit” Australia at the Celebration of Learning! Each student is also reflecting on everything we’ve learned over the course of this unit and using all of that information to create a travel brochure.
Questions
Language Arts: Alix’s group: What have you worked on to make your writing sound more like a fairy tale?
Nora’s group: Practice oral storytelling. What’s your fairy tale about?
 Math:
Earth/Wind: Which task are you completing for the celebration of learning?
Fire/Water: What was your biggest takeaway from completing the playground project?
 Yahadut:
Alix’s group: What is one custom that some families perform on Shavuot?
Nora’s group: How is the Torah similar to a song?
Chumash: Alix’s group: What is the final sign that God gives Avram after he questions how he can know that he’s going to receive the land God promised?
Nora’s group: What are some questions you want to ask Avraham when you interview him?
Ivrit: Tell about one thing that you wrote about in your letter.
Cultural: Share how your work on your brochure is going!
