the average person has no idea how many people, logistical planning, and administrative work it takes to make anything on any kind of scale larger than "guy throwing a barbeque at his house" work even remotely correctly or smoothly - people take it for advantage that the food they eat, the water they drink, the medicine they buy - that all of it just magically appears in their home or in stores or at their doctors office.

when, in reality, every piece of infrastructure, every object you buy, every resource you access - has anywhere from hundreds to thousands to hundreds-of-thousands people, behind the scenes, doing everything from budget sheets to shipping logistics to truck loading to shelf stocking, all working at a pace designed to keep all these different cogs turning without skipping a beat - and people at the top with the knowledge and experience to be able to plan it all.

you cannot ~good feels and good vibes~ and ~compassion~ your way into an efficient, useful, and working model of production, for anything, ever. you just cant. running a government or union or manufacturing plant or even large-scale community gardens requires hierarchy, and yes - somebody to tell you what to do, how to do it, and how fast to do it - and yes, there will have to be incentives for those things to all happen - and anyone who argues otherwise is somebody deeply ignorant and unbelievably privileged to have never had to learn how these things happen.

and all these people they like think that all like indigenous lifeways are not lifeways and modes of existence like any other, that people live certain ways because it's useful given the context they live in. they think that people live these ways and have relationships to the environment like this because of inate spiritual and moral wisdom. and when you think about locke, it all clicks into place that these people, at their core, hold the same beliefs as every other liberal racist since locke who believes that indigenous people did not meaningfully "improve" the land they lived on, and if they did, it was for irrelevant reasons they didn't really understand the value of. and like this is so common from "leftist" gay people in America it drives me insane

Imagine a world where every book was just a retelling of Watership Down. Every book someone recommends to you - dystopian YA novel, historical fiction, murder mystery - was carried out through the medium of sapient rabbits. Most of them even still using specific terms from the lapine language, and, by default, sharing the setting of rural midcentury Britain. Like, there are other books with other settings and other archetypes, but the vast majority of stories are shoehorned into somehow being about rabbits in burrows. You might think I'm setting up a metaphor for the corporate monopoly held by Wizards of the Coast through Dungeons and Dragons, but, actually, I just wanted you to imagine this world with me. Wouldn't it be perfect?
